Contributor Post Created with Sketch. From the Comey Memos: Trump Didn’t Stay Overnight in Moscow; Assumed Hotel Room was “Wired”

Disgraced former FBI director, and egomaniacal blowhard James Comey told Clinton donor and apparatchik George Stephanopoulus last week that it’s “possible” the peeing prostitute claims are true. Well, The Comey Memos™ have been released in part, slightly redacted. The biggest revelation to me is that Trump, “always assumed hotels rooms he stayed in when he travels are wired in some way,” and that:

He said he had spoken to people who had been on the Miss Universe trip with him and they had reminded him that he didn’t stay over night in Russia for that. He said he arrived in the morning, did events, then showered and dressed for the pageant at the hotel (he didn’t say the hotel name) and left for the pageant. Afterwards, he returned only to get his things because they departed for New York by plane that same night.

Comey recorded Trump repeating this in a subsequent memo:

He then explained, as he did at our dinner, that he hadn’t stayed overnight in Russia during the Miss Universe trip.

Ever since BuzzFeed published what we now know to be the Hillary Clinton and DNC-funded “dossier” concocted by foreign-national Christopher Steele with information provided by Russian propagandists, I’ve wondered why reporters did not verify what seemed to be one of the few verifiable claims in the document: Did Trump stay in a specific room in a specific hotel in Moscow on a specific night? Furthermore, had the Obamas previously stayed in that same room?

I think the answer is that it was one of the few verifiable claims in the dossier and the media prefers not to verify it.

I always thought the Russia stuff was so dumb in multiple ways. Name one thing or scenario involving that, that was realistic. You can’t.

Max, what you are proposing is common sense, not to mention Journalism 101. It’s most odd that some member of the press hasn’t picked up on this much sooner.

It’s still incredibly stupid that nothing can be verified or vouched for after all this time, and taxpayer money wasted with no end in sight – the level of incompetence is also amazing, but it’s good how much malarkey including on Comey and his co-conspirators is being revealed. Keep it coming until every last rock is overturned and every snake is exposed.

In the beginning I assumed some of it was real, but as so much time has elapsed without verification, the only logical conclusion is that it is impossible to verify fiction.

FWIW, NBC says there is evidence that Trump stayed overnight at the Ritz Carlton in Moscow.

All famous / wealthy / powerful people have to follow security protocols in Russia. This is easy stuff. Beyond that, would he run for POTUS if he knew, or if his lawyers thought that he was an international criminal? What’s left? Where else would Russia have any leverage and to what end?

Nate Silver put his odds at 35% max. Clinton would have weakened the military, not strengthened it.

Too funny. THANK YOU for this.

I cant believe Trump wouldn’ta known what EVERYBODY who visited the USSR or “Russia” knew: the rooms foreign tourists stay in are bugged.

When we were there while it was still the USSR, we used to laugh: at breakfast, someone would come over to us and say, for example “so, there were not enough towels in your room?”

They admitted they bugged the rooms, said it was because they wanted to learn colloquial English!

Ya think, when the great USSR died back to Russia, they retrofitted all those rooms to get rid of the bugs? I  don’t. And I’m sure Trump wouldn’ta thought that either.

If you wanted to say sump’n private, everybody knew you had to write a note, then burn it in the ashtray.

As much as I disliked Trump on a personal level, I never believed any of the nonsense in the dossier, or that he ever had any dealings with the Russians that could amount to collusion or anything else. Trump is an amoral, self obsessed egoist. He possesses a certain native intelligence, a street smartness which puts him well above most politicians. However, intellectually he is a vulgarian with bizarre tastes in everything but women, barring, of course, Stormy Daniels who I find cheap and unappealing. To me, his major appeal is that he has turned to left into a slathering mass of anger and resentment which has revealed their true nature as Dorian Gray’s portrait did his. To which I say, BRAVO!

We were in Moscow in December 2001. Worst year of my life and we were in country for less than 72 hours. We stayed at the President Hotel…a grand Stalinist relic. We were always being watched… seconds after we would re-enter our room the phone would ring. There were literally men standing behind potted plants in the hotel lobby…I called them gooney-birds. And yes, my husband and I wrote notes to each other wherever we went. Rather than burn them, I brought them home.

Anyone who would think that anywhere in Russia is not under constant surveillance is a moron. When we were on the Lufthansa flight outbound the pilot announced, “We have just left Russian airspace,” and the entire plane burst into applause.

I think they picked up on it; verified that he wasn’t in any hotel room, and then proceeded to bury such exculpatory evidence.

If the whores did pee in the bed where did Trump sleep? My dog is smarter than that. Trump is not more stupid than my dog. Now would my bird pee in his own nest, that’s an other matter.

Thanks to you both. I’ll just note that it appears most outlets didn’t bother to check this until this week. Also no one has checked whether the Obamas stayed in the same room in 2009. I would hope that they stayed in the American Embassy instead!

The Bloomberg article confirms that Trump left in the middle of the night after the pageant and didn’t spend the night. He may have spent the previous night, but Bloomberg seems confused about when he arrived — they had to issue a rather large correction on that matter.

All of this is totally irrelevant. Even if he did spend the night Friday into Saturday, so what? It doesn’t mean he hired prostitutes to pee on the the bed.

Come to think of it, him not spending the night probably would make more sense if he did hire prostitutes to pee on his bed. II mean, where’s he going to sleep, anyway?

    Byron York, yesterday:

When a political figure is accused of wrongdoing, a conversation begins among journalists, commentators, and public officials. Are the charges true? Can the accusers prove it?

That’s the way it normally works. But now, in the case of the Trump dossier – the allegations compiled by a former British spy hired by the Clinton campaign to gather dirt on presidential candidate Donald Trump – the generally accepted standard of justice has been turned on its head. Now, the question is: Can the accused prove the charges false? Increasingly, the president’s critics argue that the dossier is legitimate because it has not been proven untrue.
