Name That Quote!

OK, let’s play Name That Quote! Who said the following: “I don’t think — the President has a fear of the Lord, the fear of the wrath of God, which leads one to more humility.”

What do you think — who was that? Pat Buchanan, speaking about Bill Clinton? Maybe some Bible-banging Southern Baptist minister complaining about Barack Obama? No. That quote is from California governor Jerry Brown, as he was criticizing President Trump and his immigration policies.

Does the left have no sense of irony?  Did any advisers pull Governor Moonbeam aside and say, “You know Jerry, that may be a little over the top, coming from a leader of the party that promotes abortion and the trans-sexual movement…” Does Gov. Brown believe anything he says? Holy freakin’ Toledo…

I think left can get away with not being coherent as long as it’s emotional or judgmental. That never works for anyone else.

The Progressive Left is evidence that when your side controls the language, you can say pretty much any ridiculous thing you like without fear of it coming back to haunt you.

It’s funny even hearing that question asked.

No irony at all once you realize that for Jerry Brown the terms “Lord” and “God” refer to Karl Marx.

No, his advisers are of the same mind – or lack of it.  @rufusrjones nailed it, except there are legions out there for whom it does work – those who are not “everyone else.”  The Glorious Leaders get their loyal followers to start following, and the followers stop paying any attention to where they’re going.  “Our leaders know what’s best for us.  Who are we to question them?”  That’s why central planning is such a glorious idea!

It has always reminded me of a line from an old play:  “Trouble!  I say, trouble!  Right here in River City!  And that starts with ‘T,’ and that rhymes with ‘P,’ and that stands for POOL!”

Yes, some things never change.  Like minds addled by drugs.  Just sayin’…

The saddest part about this is that among California Dems, Jerry Brown is about as sane as it gets.

When I read this quote, one of my thoughts was, “Why?”  Gov. Brown does not seem like the type of guy who reflexively seeks God’s guidance.  So why would he say something like this?

I have two guesses:  Maybe someone told him that he was giving a speech to try to get votes of illegal immigrants from Mexico and Central America, and that “those people” tend to be Catholics who actually believe in God.  So crazy God talk may appeal to those poor provincial souls.  Those who do not spend time with anyone who is a devout Christian often have very odd views of Christianity.

One other possibility is that he knows he does not have a legal leg to stand on when refusing to work with  ICE, so he is appealing to a higher power, claiming that by turning his back on the Constitution of the United States that he stands with God.

But I really have no idea.  Really, really odd…

You do know he was well on his way to the priesthood as a Jesuit when he–apparently–found his current god, politics. And we all know–or should–there is only room for one. See: Commandments, First.

    I did not know that.

I do find it surprising when I encounter someone who is a devout Christian and a devout Marxist.  With our practical experience with Marxism over the past 100 years or so, you would think most Christians would struggle to keep the faith with their Marxist religion.

See this picture and article. I can’t post the picture without running into copyright issues, but do have a look.

    Dear Most Holy Governor Brown:

California has the fifth largest economy in the world. The state is turning over more money than entire countries in Central America. Yet you can’t find a way to help raise the standard of living for the poor within your existing borders. Your state’s policies in education and healthcare have created poverty that would make Mother Teresa cry. How has the wealth generated by the computer and entertainment and tourism industries not been sufficient, either through local government or local charities, to alleviate this third-world poverty?

Inviting more destitute people to come to California to live in such conditions is your idea of helping them?

Every year, in every major city in the United States, this happens:

Los Angeles County officials and interfaith leaders will preside over the burial of 1,495 individuals in a mass grave Wednesday.

Supervisor Janice Hahn called for a moment of silence at Tuesday’s Board of Supervisors meeting in honor of those whose bodies were unclaimed by loved ones, with “no one but the county … to grieve their loss.”

Hahn noted that “some were homeless, many were poor, some were children” as she asked everyone in the county board room to “stand and honor these 1,500 L.A. County residents.”

Governor Brown, wouldn’t it make more sense to put up a wall, declare a moratorium on all immigration for ten years, until the standard of living rises for all Americans? Charity begins at home.

I do not understand you or your fellow Democrats, Governor Brown. You are wearing blinders to the suffering around you.

We can do better, and God expects us to. He has given us everything.

I would guess they are neither.

I don’t think Christ was political, he had no need.  Marxists only use Biblical quotes for manipulation.  They have no need of humility either. You cannot dominate and rule by the servant model of Christ.

Brown is not appealing to the left, but to the right to try to guilt them into distancing themselves from Trump.

A lot of illegals don’t have the fear of God or humility either. They can be bold about taking benefits of citizenship without reciprocating the duty to be a citizen.

Extra bonus question.  Which presidential candidate said the following while campaigning in an evangelical church?

“We’re going to keep on praising together. I am confident that we can create a Kingdom right here on Earth.”

That’s a good one.  I don’t know, although I’d bet a fair amount of money that it was not the supposedly overly religious George W. Bush.

I’ll guess Obama – he liked the messianic stuff.

Barack Obama the Theocrat, October 2007, when campaigning for Democratic nomination.  I suspect it didn’t bother his hardcore supporters since it was just one of those things he said to fool the rubes.

Here’s another one the Theocrat did for the rubes; speaking with Rick Warren, August 2008:

“I believe that marriage is the union between a man and a woman. Now, for me as a Christian…it is also a sacred union. God’s in the mix.”

At the time, Donald Trump supported SSM.
