Happy St. Patrick’s Day, Ricochet
This is the Irish Blessing most people know:
May the road rise to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back,
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
The rains fall soft upon your fields and,
Until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.
…but this is one of my favorites:
May you always have walls for the winds,
a roof for the rain, tea beside the fire,
laughter to cheer you, those you love near you,
and all your heart might desire.
Happy St Patrick’s Day, Mate De!
My husband always prefers the version that uses “hollow” of His hand instead of palm.
No green beer here but we’re eating pie because we found a new bakery and realized we’d forgotten to celebrate Pi Day.
A dry day here in Ireland so far. Everyone thrilled by our rugby team beating England (in England) today to win European Rugby’s Grand Slam – beating all five other teams- for only the third time in our history.
My husband was watching the game and FaceTiming his cousin in Mayo. I’m sure the celebration at the pubs will be going on tonight. Maybe the folks who gave up booze for lent might get a reprieve for one night by the priest.
Happy and Blessed Feast, @matede, and All! Maureen O’Hara used to say: “May the road rise up with you.” was better; because the road rising to meet you meant you’d fallen on your face. :-D
and same to you RA! Lovely poems!
The QOTD is from @matede, FSC…Happy and Blessed St. Patrick’s Day to you, Righty and everyone!
When you die may God hold you in the hollow of His hand before the Devil knows you are gone.
May the road rise to meet you
I’d prefer it didn’t get up. Who needs a hill?
Isn’t that what happens when you’re walking home a wee bit tipsy and you trip and fall flat on your face?
It’s all a matter of perspective…
Joseph, did you see comment #5? Great minds… :-)
Unusually for St Patrick’s Day in Ireland it’s snowing on the east coast. Nice to look at from inside a bar listening to an ad hoc band of singers and players. Mostly American music, mind you.
Congratulations.
