Is The West Coast Lost? Not According to a Californian Named Ginny

I met Ginny in January, amidst a raucous gaggle of conservatives partying in LA one night last fall. A successful retired screenwriter, Ginny is a peppy, enthusiastic supporter of the idea that California, and the country, can be saved if conservatives will share resources and work together. Using her own savings, she founded Connect The Dots, a 501(c)4 devoted to getting conservatives to learn how to cooperate and communicate the ideas of conservatism more efficiently. A longtime California resident, she’s witnessed the rapid demise of freedom in California and is actually putting her money where her mouth is to try to fix it.

This Saturday, March 17, at the Burbank Airport Marriott, she’s sponsoring an ambitious event called Saving California, and it’s meant to shine a spotlight on the story of what conservatism looks like for the future, and how we can build a successful coalition, even on the Left Coast. David Horowitz, Bill Whittle, Evan Sayet, Internet sensation Alfonzo Rachel, and Turning Point’s Charlie Kirk will headline, and our own intrepid Whiskey Politics’ podcaster @Dave Sussman will be there to get the story and interview speakers and moderate panels. In addition, the controversial but wonderful L.A. street artist, SABO will have something special planned.

If you are interested, click here for the ticket information, and be sure to stop in and say “hi” to @DaveSussman and @6foot2inhighheels!

    Wish I could attend.

Maybe next year. I left California for Texas in 2005, and if sanity ever returns to the left coast, I would like to return someday.

    Keep fighting the good fight.

Thanks!  There were millions in California that stayed home in 2016 because they thought their voice wouldn’t count….how nice it would have been to deprive Hillary of the “popular” vote.

I’ve seen a lot of incredible things in this world.  I’ve never seen that.

Ambitious?  Now THAT is an understatement.

Not your typical conservative meeting agenda.

My goodness.  I need to go lie down after reading all that.  I feel dizzy…

Look forward to Sussman telling us all about it through his excellent interviews.  I fear if we can’t win the two coasts back we can’t win.

I wish I could share her enthusiasm, but I see what’s going on out there and merely shake my head.  However, I do wish her good luck!

You’d be surprised. In Jerry Brown’s and Kamala Harris’s California, the coolest, best (Best!) people are right of center. THIS is the true ‘resistance’.

Thank you so much for the “Likes”!  There isn’t a budget for promotion, so we’ve all been pitching in with sharing the event on social media.  This is Ginny’s first event, and she hopes to plan more, so it’s important to get the word out.

And thanks to you too. What you said above about the “popular vote” is so important. Every time I hear about that, I know it’s irrelevant because in CA, MA, etc Republicans don’t bother to vote half the time. I know those numbers would have been quite different had we all shown up and been counted. I’d like to see that message be part of our game plan. I mean we probably can’t outdo her numbers in illegals and dead people, but hey.

California was lost when the Republicans took over the majority in the lower house of their legislature circa 1996, led by the bumbling boob, Jim Brulte.

The house then proceeded to re-elect the democrat speaker.

That’s when I knew California was lost.  There is no hope there.

All true, and the Jungle Primary (top 2, no matter the party affiliation) cemented the Dems hold on every state office in 2010. (Not so ironically pushed by Abe Maldonado and his group of CA GOP squishes). However, this Los Angeles Times piece shows Republican candidates may have an in.

Suppose — and it’s anything but a wild supposition — that the Koch brothers funding network, or some other group of mega-rich donors, decides to fund two Republicans in each of those races, giving those candidates a decided advantage. Suppose the three leading Democrats in each of those races stay in the race, along with the other Democrats still in the field. (There are seven Democratic candidates in Royce’s district.) Suppose, in the June primary, the total vote for the district’s Republican candidates comes to 44%, with the two leaders each winning 20%. Suppose the total vote for the district’s Democratic candidates comes to 54% (let’s say 2% goes to minor party candidates), but it’s split so many ways that the leading Democrat gets just 19%.

If all those suppositions hold, then the candidates in the November run-off would both be Republicans, even though the Democrats would have collectively outpolled the GOP hopefuls by 10 percentage points.

How far-fetched is this hypothetical? Given that control of the House is shaping up as a huge national battle, with Orange County as its epicenter, it requires no imaginative leap to see the Kochs or their equivalents gaming the system in just this manner.
