Trump Cans Tillerson, Pompeo to Replace Rex at State

From Politico:

President Donald Trump said Tuesday he is removing Rex Tillerson as secretary of state after a rocky tenure, nominating CIA Director Mike Pompeo in his place.

“Mike Pompeo, Director of the CIA, will become our new Secretary of State. He will do a fantastic job!” Trump tweeted Tuesday. “Thank you to Rex Tillerson for his service! Gina Haspel will become the new Director of the CIA, and the first woman so chosen. Congratulations to all!”

A senior White House official said Trump wanted Tillerson out so he could have his new team in place before upcoming talks with North Korea. The president agreed last week to sit down with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. Tillerson said at a press conference Monday that the U.S. had not yet heard back from North Korea, but he made no mention of his own impending exit.

Tillerson has been embattled as Trump’s chief diplomat almost from the moment his nomination was announced. The former Exxon-Mobil CEO was criticized for his perceived warm relationship with the Russian government and President Vladimir Putin, prompting an especially critical confirmation hearing in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

Who will replace Pompeo at the CIA? My money’s on Robbie Knieval…

A woman (the first) with 30 years of experience within the agency! Congratulations to Mr. Pompeo – I listened to his interview on Ricochet and thought he was outstanding. What a resume!

Good grief! Go to bed and wake up, turn on the news – every day is seismic!

I was curious about Gina Haspel, too. Apparently, she’s very capable with years of experience working undercover herself. Most mainstream media articles I’ve seen so far skim over her expertise to concentrate on her affiliation with enhanced interrogation during the Bush 43 administration post-911.

She has to be a Pompeo recommendation. For those concerned about 30 years of “deep state” experience, it’s the best way to know what the heck is going on over there. I think home run (allegations of “torture” notwithstanding).

    Gentlemen and Ladies,

I think Mike and Gina will make a good team………

    Regards,

    Jim

Sessions also has the ability to go to war with Sanctuary Cities in California which has probably helped save his job.

Tillerson could only be at war with State for so long.

Interesting a former State Dept friend who is a die hard Obama voter is mourning the loss of Tillerson who he coudnt stand.  Careful what you wish for.

Obama and the Dems are the greatest proponents of wishful thinking ever. When their house of cards collapses and their straw men catch fire they run for their safe spaces. If only they would just stay there and not bother us with any more of their opinions. Now I’m into wishful thinking.

    Regards,

    Jim
