Quote of the Day: Outrage Politics
“We must picture hell as a state where everyone is perpetually concerned about his own dignity and advancement, where everyone has a grievance, and where everyone lives with the deadly serious passions of envy, self-importance, and resentment.” – C.S. Lewis, The Screwtape Letters
Isn’t it strange how C.S. Lewis’s description of hell so closely matches the outrage politics of today? Or maybe it isn’t.

I think he saw it coming.
A: No. We’re on the road to hell and it’s smoothly paved with our good intentions.
There are so many of Lewis’ writings that have resonated with me. Mere Christianity was instrumental in leading me to Christ. I actually played Screwtape in an abbreviated stage adaptation of The Screwtape Letters. And The Great Divorce is a very good illustration of today’s quote.
BTW – it’s always more fun playing the villain.
It’s not like this stuff hasn’t happened before.
Sounds like no one in Hell has ever taken care of babies in poopy diapers…

The whole book describes today – now that I’m off Facebook, and think about what people used to post, and the Twitter craze, I’m sure he had no idea……
Isn’t it strange how great literature identifies the perils of what is modern liberalism, but such literature is no longer taught because of the hatred of “Dead White Males”.
Maybe this is why English degrees are now awarded without Shakespeare . . .
Sea,
Well in defense of the young, they haven’t been taught much math, science, history, civics, or literary appreciation. What they specialize in is hysterical over the top hand-wringing about subjects that they know nothing about. However, they probably can qualify for a college credit in advanced victimhood.
Hell definitely could be described as being trapped in a room with these ‘special’ adolescents for any extended period of time like 5 minutes or more.
Regards,
Jim
Which young? My three were homeschooled. All three are engineers. They even read a lot for entertainment.
Their cousins who went to government schools? A couple of them are in the grievance bidness. Those two are also working in minimum wage jobs.
Posted in a church nursery:
Yeah, they shoulda been taught Lewis.
Yeah, Mrs. Augustine and I also homeschool. It’s a bit early to predict the results. But I trust her more than any government school.
And the Abolition of Man. What a book!
You know, one nice thing about it is how nicely it describes what so many sci-fi shows portray.
Someone should make a book about that.
