Quote of the Day: Right Thinking People

“I think all right-thinking people in this country are sick and tired of being told that ordinary, decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired … I’m certainly not!

“And I’m sick and tired of being told that I am.” Graham Chapman Michael Palin (edited per commentary below)

And I think that all right-thinking people in this country are sick and tired of being told that ordinary, decent people are crazy and deluded because of their political beliefs. I’m certainly not! And I’m sick and tired of being told that I am.

I’m not sick. I am not tired. Despite apparently being run over by a monster truck with very large tires during that three-hour period I called sleeping. I will survive. I will thrive. And I will fall asleep at my keyboard if I have not done so already.

I have never aspired to be a “right thinking” person.  In my experience, all “right thinking” people are usually wrong.

Then you must be “right-thinking,” because you’re wrong.

Nope. Although I do have two pouncing fuzzballs. There’s nothing like the one who likes to hook over my leg while purring up a storm and grooming herself with a great deal of motion to contribute to my sleep disturbances.

My leg with fuzzball while attempting a nap.

Didn’t Spock use that argument to confuse a super-computer on Star Trek?

My disturber of sleep isn’t nearly so fuzzy. He puts feet in my face.

I’m sick and tired of the liberals’ ham-handed attempts to shame me into submission with their lexicon of “right-thinking people,”  “the right side of history,”  “common sense gun control,”  and the rest of it. It isn’t working so can it.

I’ve been busy most of the day, so thanks for putting in this link. There is only one day left (February 20th) for a QotD this month. So if you have a quotation that is important to you, why not sign up today?

I maintain Palin – we need more Python fans to weigh in. I listened to Matching Tie and Handkerchief many, many times in my youth.

If I had the correct Digital Signal Processing (DSP) equipment and time, we could lay this one to rest quickly. But my “musical ear” says it’s definitely not Palin.

Audio recordings are based on the local acoustics, microphone choice and placement, and any post processing. Also, when was recoding done?

I’ve got the complete DVD set of Monty Python, done in the early 1970’s, so that is my audio frame of reference. I also saw Michael Palin’s 1992 series Pole to Pole, and like many men, his voice deepened slightly during the ~20 years difference, but it was still recognizable.

I go with Chapman, not only with the actual audio sound, but somewhat with the timing and phrasing.

A, the three-sided record album, since one side had two tracks.

I think it is Chapman and all the internet references I found concur.  Not necessarily proof, but I think it is Chapman.

It saddens me when so many people are wrong.

Here’s the full album, which opens with the clip above:

About 30 seconds in you hear Gerald about annexing the Sudetenland, and that’s Chapman.

Thanks for posting.  So it’s clear that it is Palin?  I guess I should update the post.

I can’t believe it’s wrong, I saw it on the internet

I’m confident that it’s Chapman.  It’s easy to tell.  He sounds like King Arthur.  :)

Palin sounds like the pet store guy insisting that the parrot is just resting.

Without modeling the vocal tract with DSP, we can be confused. That’s why we like impersonators:

Exactly right. What’s odd is that I heard the quote in Chapman’s voice in my head before I clicked on the clip, and was surprised to hear Palin – even though I have that album memorized. (All three sides.)

I had most of it memorized at one point. Even now, after not hearing it for several years, I can do most of “Tonight’s the night I shall be talking about of flu the subject of word association football.”
