Don’t Feel Sorry for Cathy Newman, She Deserves the Mockery

By now many on Ricochet will have heard about or seen the now infamous video between Channel 4 “journalist” Cathy Newman and the darling of the new right Jordan Peterson. Channel 4 “news” is like Britain’s version of MSNBC except it, in the condescendingly British way, pretend to be fair and impartial. A lie if ever there was one.

Anyway as Jordan Peterson was on a tour of the UK they perhaps felt he would be good for their ratings to invite him on to discuss topical issues. What happened next is the video that is perhaps one of the greatest takedowns of smug liberal feminism that you will ever see this year. Why Channel 4 news agreed to publish the whole video is beyond me. Perhaps they taught their arch-feminist inquisitor would decimate poor Jordan or that his fans would give them some much-needed internet volume. Their news show is least watched of the big UK channels.

Spoiler alert — that didn’t happen. Instead, Cathy Newman was outclassed, outsmarted, and overpowered by a polite, soft-spoken Canadian who answered every acid-laden question she threw at him and was still respectful to her. It becomes clear to even the most sympathetic viewer that the whole interview was a set-up from early on as she tried — more than once — to trick him into saying something “bigoted” or hateful so Peterson would able to be labeled as at best a fool at worst a far-right bigot. Thankfully Jordan with his politeness and straight-talking not only destroyed her arguments but made it so that the interview backfired on her. So much so that the brilliant English conservative journalist Douglas Murray said she should take out a super-injunction on the video.

Its normal under some circumstances now to feel pity for her. But most Americans and those outside Britain should not fall for such pity. Cathy Newman has a history of doing the above stunts to politicians or people she disagrees with politically and launching attacks on those with different opinions to her.

  • She repeatedly asked one of Britain’s few openly Christian politicians his opinions on gay sex. This meant he eventually had to resign as leader of his political party.
  • She lied about getting kicked out of a Muslim mosque — never happened
  • She openly and angrily denounced the Christian (again) MP Jacob Rees Mogg for his opposition to abortion and his stance on gay marriage.
  • She openly called for a ban on pro-life vigils outside abortion clinics. (Free speech for pro-choice liberals but not pro-lifers)
  • She lied about pro-lifers and stated falsely that they had helped influence mass shooters at abortion clinics. Vile statement altogether.
  • She openly and repeatedly argues for feminism (enough said).
  • It’s very easy to see her own positions come across in the people she interviews. (Sadly a flaw all too common in “journalists” today)

There are many more things I could add. It’s just that I don’t feel like now. You get the point. One last note: Apparently Newman is supposed to be getting a lot of death threats now, post video. I don’t doubt its true and that threats of death are wrong. But I also don’t doubt that much of the milder criticism she is getting is more than justified. Some of it is also quite funny.

Some of the comments underneath the video are great fun. Read them and enjoy. Oh, and God bless Jordan Peterson. It’s nice to see Canada is producing some excellent people.

This is why people hate journalists. After showing up one of their own, Channel 4 news did this.

Its sole purpose was to make Jordan Peterson look weird. Dishonest. But Peterson still got the last laugh. God bless him..

Thank you Paddy S. for this video. Too bad he couldn’t stuff a rag in her mouth to shut her up long enough for him to get a statement out.

I do. Every proglodyte who embarrasses him/herself in public hides behind death threats in a pathetic attempt to invoke sympathy and get the mockery to stop. The card has become almost as overplayed as the racist and misogynist cards.

I have to confess that I only got through 15 minutes of this video. But he was outstanding. Absolutely amazing. He answered every question with intelligence. Then the interviewer would go back to her world-view of: Obama(or-whoever)-is-my-hero-because-females-can’t-look-out-for-themselves outlook. (Which explains my inability to get past a quarter of an hour.)

Except, of course, she couldn’t explain how Iranian-women-who-really-are-forced-to-comply-with their Obama-mandated-and-funded-masters are better off than Western women. (Okay, off topic here, but totally relevant.)

I would advise all to listen to this (at least 15 minutes), but I think we here already know what we are up against (amazingly stupid bromides picked up by the CNN’s of the world).

It is easy to be stupid (as displayed by this interviewer who has clearly been promoted to the Peter-level of her companies-principal) but much harder to actually analyze what is going on .

It is exceedingly hard to be not stupid in these days of news providers who find it more profitable to match their programming to 2% of our countries extreme thinking, rather than actually bringing us the unbiased news of the day. (THIS IS CNN.) (Welcome to BIG-BROTHER-CNN.)

This interview brings to mind his conversation with Camille Paglia where he says something along the lines of, “it’s very confusing for a man when he’s viciously attacked by a women. He knows precisely what to do with another guy….punch him in the nose. But he can’t do that to a woman, even if she’s blatantly asking for it.”

BTW check out the article on him in the Chronical of Higher Education. Back-handed take down doesn’t begin to describe it. A true exercise in the subtle rhetoric of prejudice.

That was unfair. Peterson was using facts and logic and reason and stuff instead of validating her feelings and uninformed opinions. Typical tricks of the Patriarchy.

Really, there are a couple of simple things in this video that determine the outcome: he listens and engages, she provokes and retreats.

This chick ( and I can say that because I am also a chick) is the most stereotypical feminist harpy you could find. I’m sure this chick is a complete tyrant to work for and hates any woman who would be ever dare to compete with her. These high level feminists are the biggest hypocrites out there. They especially hate women with children because we mess up their careerist feminist worldview. God Bless Dr Peterson for being so patient because I would have punched that b……..woman in the face

Is Peterson the guy knocked around for his stance on gender pronouns? Pointing out the idiocy of left adding all the extra pronouns?

I suppose, but it seems males have tried the same tactics with him and similarly failed. I think I understand where you’re going, that she is given status unavailable to him because of gender, though if the genders were reversed, the roles wouldn’t be. Perhaps it is a ‘victim advocate’ privilege.

    Yes.

I’m obviously doing the embedding wrong, but the link should work. If I paste it in another tab, I get there.

He and Sam Harris had a pretty good discussion for a while.

    He never took her bait.

I’ll answer my own question. Yes. And that exchange in this interview was fabulous.

I hadn’t fully understood his stance, but he was clear in this interview he had no care for pronouns, but that he rejected the legislation of speech.

I hadn’t fully understood his stance, but he was very clear in this interview

I ran across this earlier in the week. Watched it once, and watched it again with my wife, who is a graduate school-level educator in a medical field. You know, ,one of those fields where you actually have to know stuff that is real. The wife could not keep from screaming at my iPad in frustration  at this horrid harpy. She called Cathy Newman one of the stupidest persons she’d ever run across.

I had to disagree. She is not stupid. But she is ignorant. And this is by design. She is a product of Britain’s finest universities, and she was deliberately educated to know no facts, to be incapable of rational thought, and to be impervious to logic. The narrative is all she knows, her sole point of reference.

But her native intelligence shone through the haze of her education halfway through the interview, when Peterson left her speechless. She realized at that moment that what she had been arguing made no sense. It is possible at that moment that she realized how thoroughly pathetic her intellectual tool kit was, and maybe that the narrative is false, at least in this one detail.

I find it interesting this harping on the gender pay gap. It completely contradicts the lefts dogma that gender is fluid.

Maybe all the successful 7 high paid women are really men, who don’t even know it yet?

Seriously, I think there is a lot to be said for “traits” that tend to appear more in women, that are not conducive to success in high powered business environments. But those traits bring success, even happiness, in plenty of other pursuits.

Two traits that are common to success are intelligence and…1 other, I can’t remember what it was he said.

Anyway, those two were equal among men and women.

But those are not the only two traits that bring success. And clearly Harpy Cathy has employed some traits to get her own self positioned further up the hierarchy ladder, than say the individual who cleans the floor, or restocks the bathroom.

I just want to know what makes her think her job as a “journalist” is worth more pay than, say… mine as a teacher?

Hmm, Cathy? Hmm? I think she should split her pay with me, you know, because I think that is fair. I’m equal to her. Actually, I’m her better, but I am not that aggressive, which is probably why I’m a teacher, not a harpy lib-journo.

Hierarchy is embedded in our human structure for millenia. I live Peterson’s lobster comparison.

We admire the stability hierarchy brings in wild nature, but, in humanity it is some evil patriarchal plot to oppress women?

Let’s just observe that hierarchy is a tool that women use against women, men use against men, and in every crossed mix of men and women. To get what they want. Hierarchy can also be a benevolent force, for good.

You can be sure Harpy Cathy would B!tch slap me to the floor to keep her earned hierarchy, and get what she wanted…

The most interesting take I’ve read on this interview is by Neo-neocon:

It’s a bit long for a blog post, but Neo, who is a psychologist, points out the therapeutic aspects of the interview. I watched the segment she linked to after reading her analysis, and really appreciated her insight.

On the other hand, BBC4’s ratings are somewhere south of the Fireplace Channel. This is probably the best one of their videos has ever done.
