Ricochet is the best place on the internet to discuss the issues of the day, either through commenting on posts or writing your own for our active and dynamic community in a fully moderated environment. In addition, the Ricochet Audio Network offers over 50 original podcasts with new episodes released every day.
Welcome to a New Editor: Bethany Mandel
Before I start posting here at Ricochet, I wanted to take the time to introduce myself to readers, members, and listeners. You may already be familiar with me because of my role on LadyBrains and the newly launched podcast with my husband Seth, called That Sethany Show.
I’ll be editing here part-time, cleaning up member posts and helping podcasts and other posts get on the site. In addition to that editing, I’ll be writing a few posts a week, on politics and cultural trends.
A bit about me: I’m a full-time mother, home with my three kids. I don’t use their names online because the Internet is a dark and scary place, and we want them to develop their online identities separate from us. My oldest is four, and her online nickname is Cookie; you may have heard unexpected guest appearances from her on LadyBrains over the last year. My middle son is nicknamed Pat because he was born on St. Patrick’s Day; he’s almost three. You may be familiar with my youngest’s birth story; his nickname is Altima, because that’s where he was born, in Seth’s Nissan Altima on the side of the highway. (You can listen to that whole story on this episode of LadyBrains).
In addition to my Ricochet duties editing, writing and podcasting, I am also a Senior Contributor at the Federalist and a columnist at the Jewish Daily Forward.
Before my daughter was born, Seth and I both worked at Commentary Magazine. After she was born I started freelancing from home, and plan to homeschool our children. Seth has since moved on to become the op-ed editor at the New York Post. We live in New Jersey with our kids and have no spare time; though if I had that, I would continue trying to teach myself how to crochet and be far more crafty and put together than I am.
I look forward to getting to know all of you; please introduce yourselves in the comments!

Welcome aboard.
Welcome, please tell me you’re a Trump supporter.
I remember the roadside delivery story. Amazing. Love the resulting nickname, too.
Welcome!
Welcome! I listened to the new podcast and thought it was good. Nice graphic design, too.
I am a citizen of the country where he is President. So I support his success. I like some things he’s done and don’t like other things. I was a Never Trump person in the election season, but consider myself a pretty straight shooter since. Hope that isn’t too discouraging ;)
Welcome and I really hope you can help bring peace back to this place…please. We need you to help to save Ricochet, honest.
What does “cleaning up member posts” mean?
Hi Bethany, Welcome! I’m blessed to be a Contributor and I also post on the Member Feed. I look forward to seeing your posts, and I’m sure Jon is glad to have some help.
You didn’t say anything about your bullet journal or the Instant Pot.
Nah … that wasn’t it. You ever hang around seedy bars near airports? Or was that bars near seedy airports? One of those.
Watch out for @arahant, for he is a Menace.
Welcome, Bethany.
I have become a big fan of you and your husband in the past couple of years.
Welcome!
Love @bethanymandel and her husband, they’re both hilarious on Twitter. Welcome to Ricochet!
Hi, Bethany. I’m more of a reader than a podcast listener, but I’ll try to listen to some of yours in the next few days.
Have fun. Don’t stress too much about anything beyond that lovely family of yours.
Welcome, you or Seth wouldn’t be quail hunters would you?
Welcome to the written side of Ricochet, Bethany.
Fair enough. Please pardon the direct question, but I do believe it is a fair question in our current times.
I’m not a podcast person, but I’ve run into some of your previous writings and liked them.
I’m home with 3 kids, as well :) 8, 6, and 2.
Welcome, Bethany!
Welcome, Bethany.
I’m a 61 year old grandmother of 4 living in Berlin, Connecticut with my husband, Tom. We frequently visit and help out with 2 of our grandchildren (girls, ages 3 and 20 months.).
It’s heartening for me to see another young person at Ricochet.
Welcome Aboard Bethany!
Welcome to Ricochet Bethany. I’m Instugator and I, well, uh, instugate.
@joalt is my better-ish half.
Howdy, Bethany! Welcome. Hopefully you can take some pressure off Jon. He’s turned into such a grumpy fellow with startling flares of temper. Epithets flying hither and thither…oh, wait…that’s Rob. Never mind. Jon is fine.
I only write serious posts…whenever I can’t think of something whimsical or satirical to write. I’m a single dad caring for my autistic son and a female tabby cat who demands even more care (especially after she gets into the liquor cabinet and gets all mean and sloppy). The three of us live in Orange County, California and have been tunneling eastward at night when the neighborhood informants are asleep.
I’ll try to behave myself.
Welcome. I’ve recently been enjoying some of the LadyBrains podcast episodes, although I always forget who is who.
Welcome, Bethany!
(Why does everyone say, “Welcome aboard”? Is there a Ricochet boat that nobody told me about?)
And yes, @arahant is a menace. But I expect they would have told you that.
Well, yeah! And it’s totally aweso . . . I mean, no, there’s no boat.
Are you the one with the wallaby? Regardless, welcome to the insane asylum that is Ricochet.
I am a Christian geek working as a covert agent in Academia and the People’s Democratic Pension Republic of Madiganstan. I have yet to meet a woman crazy enough to marry me, but I have 4 nieces and nephews to brag about.
For an amusing political note, I was virulently anti-Trump in the primary. After he was elected, he was not anywhere near my expectations of him. I now help run a pro-Trump group here. You never know where you will end up…
And he calls me a menace?
Another one calling me a menace, and he obviously has not been paying attention.
Welcome aboard, Bethany.
Welcome, Bethany! I joined Ricochet as a member recently and I am so impressed by the community here.
