Chicago Gotta Chicago

Teachers and school administrators (“educrats”) in Democrat-run Chicago have been heisting the gift cards the Department of Ed sent out to incentivize student performance. The teachers used the cards to purchase desperately needed classroom supplies to help all of their students.

Just kidding, they spent them on gourmet meals, luxury purchases, and detail jobs for their luxury cars.

How did the scammers and thieves (oh, sorry, I meant educators) spend those gift cards and other school funds intended for students?

How about a gourmet lunch club where a principal and teachers feasted on lobster and steak, while the kids were forced to eat those crappy federal fruits and vegetables?

If you were a kid, what would you rather have for lunch: the usual, or a thick, juicy steak with shrimp on the side?

Another educator got a BMW immaculately cleaned and detailed with the kids’ cash, because, well, don’t all property taxpayers who fund the public schools drive BMWs too?

One principal ripped off the gifts for students by spending at least $22,000 for personal electronics and groceries.

Once this information found its way into the local media, the Chicago Public Schools sprang into action and put an inspector on the case to make sure that should this ever happen again, the media wouldn’t find about it. Well, actually, they decided to distribute new policy guidelines about the proper use of gift cards.

CPS on Wednesday said it was developing a broader policy to govern the purchase and use of gift cards.

So, apparently, Chicago teachers used the George Costanza defense. “Was I not supposed to use the gift cards intended for students to buy myself a lobster lunch and get my car detailed? That was never made clear to me.”

As a veteran teacher, I am deeply shamed by the actions of these individuals who pretend to be professionals, and are not worthy to lick the sidewalks our students walk on. I would not call them colleagues, I would call them charlatans.

With that said, you must know that this kind of behavior is not universal among teachers. I don’t have any statistics, but in my professional career I have not encountered such despicable people.

Add LAUSD to the list. Their accounting is so Byzantine no one has a clue what’s going on.

In my own little town no one gets to say “for the children” to me without a pointed question about retirement age and pension

No wonder leftists hate America – If I dealt with these kind of scum everyday I would want to destroy my country too.  As it is, all of in Illinois should go back to being a territory and eventually earn our way back from being a banana republic

4 years jail for stealing $20mil+ from the mouths and hands of poor kids in Chicago, and the families who pay taxes??? Disgusting for the community, and for the judges who oversaw the trial.

Each of those thieves should go to jail for 13 years: 1 generation of students, K-12.

I’ll note one of these stories is from May 2015. The other was adjudicated April 2017.

I don’t get how Barbara Byrd-Bennett’s kickbacks were so small compared to the 20 mil. she funneled to her buddies.  This is not the Chicago Way  of my youth.  The problem is that she is a New Yorker.

She probably played the nickel machines, and state college for the fam.  Haha.

She may not have received $20mil, but she was part of that theft.

You expect honesty from officials in a city whose motto is “Vote early; vote often” ??

And that has for its Mayor the very shady Rahm Emanuel?

I’m a teacher. Wow. I guess those teachers must hold their students in complete contempt to misuse the money that way. Do they think, “Well, these little punks are never going to amount to anything, so nothing I do will even matter?”  It’s really amazing. It’s also amazing that lots of us read the story and aren’t at all surprised that it happened, or surprised at where it happened. Sigh. All teachers aren’t like this. Really.

I’m sure nobody thinks that. It’s a mindset in Chicago. It’s a corrupt cesspool that’s been run into the ground under decades of Democrat rule. For the last 8 years, I used to wish that everyone could have grown up there because they’d have seen clearly that Obama was running the White House the same way the old Mayor Daley ran the city of Chicago: corruption, cronyism, kickbacks, and crime. He sullied the White House every bit as much as the smarmy Bill Clinton did.

The fact that the money was not spent on paying off bills or routine grocery purchases as most working people would do with a small windfall is telling.  The thieves are clearly overpaid.

My wife is a teacher, and we routinely end up spending our own money for things that will end up in her classroom. Some years the PTA will reimburse some of the expenses, but rarely all of them. I’m not complaining about it; that’s just what she needs to do her job up to her standards. That some “teachers” would pull this [redacted] is just disgusting and insulting to real teachers everywhere.
