Gary’s Inspiration Series: Sustenance

Note: @garyrobbins issued a challenge to match his upgrade of level on Ricochet. While I could not upgrade to meet his challenge, I proposed to meet his challenge in another way. I would provide uplifting spiritual fodder in our mutual Unity tradition to give him a reason to see Ricochet as a place of spiritual, as well as mental, good and growth. Unity has long produced a daily inspirational magazine called Daily Word, and my messages will mostly conform to that format with an affirmation, a short (120 word) message, and a Bible verse.

These messages will come from a Unity perspective. They are not intended to provoke theological arguments, only to fulfill an obligation in Gary’s challenge. If you also find them spiritually uplifting, perhaps you will also consider upgrading your membership level to help support Ricochet and keep it as a going concern.

Affirmation: Apparent lack in any form has no power over me. God sustains me and all around me.

Any lack we see may be temporary fact, but is not Truth. In the bleak midwinter of a mind’s mood, we may say, “There is nothing left for me here.” Whether it is lack of employment or lack of the feeling of belonging in a changing organization we once called home, the Truth is that God can sustain us through this time.

Let us turn our eyes from this temporary lack to search for our strengths, assets, and connections. Even the smallest good we can find in the situation is also a fact, and what we focus on grows. It becomes the more important fact and our reality. God is the only source of our supply. God will sustain us.

Psalm 55:22 “Cast your worries upon the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never suffer the righteous to fear want.

I hope you consider that a good thing. The entries in the format I use are a bit shorter than what was found in My Utmost for His Highest.

As I was writing that this morning, though, I was feeling as if it would be much easier to write 500 words than 120 in the “meat” section.

I identify with this piece, Arahant. It is so tempting to notice what is missing, than what is present, available or possible. Years ago I went through a very lonely time. I felt friendless and sad. I finally created a list of all my friends (many of whom did not live where I lived) to remind myself how blessed I was, rich in relationships. When that lonely feeling would arise periodically, I would take out my list. Although I lost touch with some folks, others joined the list, so it always felt “full.” And I know I’m never alone. Thanks.

Trusting in the Lord has always been difficult for me, but as my life has gone on, I am constantly rewarded every time I do so.

    From 1 Corinthians 10:13

No trial has come to you but what is human.  God is faithful and will not let you be tried beyond your strength; but with the trial he will also provide a way out, so that you may be able to hear it.

Thank you, Gary…Without your challenge/suggestion, others wouldn’t have access to the food for thought….
