Promoted from the Ricochet Member Feed by Editors Created with Sketch. The Last Friday ere Thanksgiving

‘Twas the week ere Thanksgiving, and all through the shop,
Assemblers are frenzied, the rush jobs don’t stop.
But the phones are all silent, there’s not even a whop,
Of a desk phone a’ringing or email incoming,
So I’m cleaning my desk of the year’s paperwork gloaming.

And it’s Friday, at the end of a busy week’s labors,
With sun shining brightly on the roofs of the neighbors,
And we all wait impatiently for five o’clock’s savior,
That homeward we may wend us to home fires burning
And pre-holliday’s prep work, with kitchens a stirring.

So come thou now quickly, the closing bell’s ringing,
and I’ll flee this paper pile, and clutter thats brimming,
There’s naught that’s as empty as the week ere Thanksgiving.
For next week’s a short one, with truncated days,
Then we’re off for a break, or to hit the roadways.

November. Thanksgiving. Gatherings. Life’s challenges – great and small.

All encapsulated in your funny, sweet little ditty.

    A last-minute blur of circuits a-shorted

The hoped-for repair to a board – fully thwarted

But decisions are made – this all it can wait

Large appetites call whose needs you would sate

Then desperate a call from a client most cherished:

“The heart of my system has just truly perished!

I know you can save me as so often you’ve done.

I just need this job by next Thursday at one!”

    Thankgiving music ALREADY!? UGH.

But seriously, that was very good.

    Canned cranberry sauce

    With the ridges around

    Or those small crunchy onions

    Where greenbeans are found

    Or white meat or dark

    Mashed potatoes, sweet yams

    Or French bread or rolls

    Best with butter or jams

    But the biggest dispute

    That defines this great age

    Choose well or face trouble

    Should the stuffing have sage
