Raymond Arroyo is, as I have said many times, a surprisingly good interviewer. The other day, he sat down on his EWTN show with Phil Robertson, the Duck Commander himself, for a wide-ranging conversation about Robertson’s new CRTV show, the culture, and beards, among other subjects. Arroyo confesses that Robertson might be converting him by the end of the segment. (About beards, not about faith.) I thought some here might enjoy this lively discussion.

    You are welcome!

By the way, I was listening to Crowder’s 1 million subscribers video and thinking, “I think it was @matede who first introduced this guy to me in his radio show podcast days…”

    So, thanks to you!

Another interesting fact about beards is that it creates a micro-climate that is less amenable to certain germs. They did a study at hospitals, swabbing the faces of men who worked there and found that men with beards had a lesser presence of Staph than men who were clean-shaven.

OH that’s so great that it was me who introduced you to him. I’m one of those people who has been following him from his days at PJTV and early Youtube Channel. I always found him really funny, genuine, and actually brave (not the SJW brave). Glad he’s been such a success, he deserves it in my opinion.

I listened to a re-broadcast of this on EWTN Radio a few months ago – it was excellent.

I think that would largely depend on care of said beard. There are a number of people who have seborrheic dermatitis on their face in eyebrows and beards.

We have swabbed people’s beards in the hospital and found, not only staph (which everyone has because it just lives in your skin), but multiple varieties of yeast. We often will cut the beards and shave our gentleman patients because they are at high risk for aspiration pneumonia and nosocomial infection from bacteria around them. We have even moved toward brushing teeth 4 times a day in order to prevent post-hospital pneumonia. It’s crazy.

I don’t know how their beards stay so clean.

The study was of hospital employees, whom I assume are a bit more hygienic than your average patient.

Yeah, I read the study. It makes sense. It gives a bit of distance to the bacteria, I could see that they’d be less likely to carry MRSA.
