I only have two rules.
The first rule is, if the anthem plays you stand up. If you don’t want to stand up for the anthem you can sit in the locker room.
The second rule is, never go in against a Sicilian when death is on the line.
The third rule is, never bet on a dog race with your stripper girlfriend…
I saw an NFL ad the other day where a player (who happens to be black) was referencing and honoring his veteran grandfather. I thought the ad was great. But I also then thought: “Well OK then and join your grandfather in standing in honor of the flag and playing the National Anthem!”
We haven’t watched a game since they started this crap.
As Malcolm Reynolds said, “You can’t miss a place you’ve never been.” I saw the Packers win Superbowls I and II, but haven’t watched pro football since then. It’s hard to boycott something you don’t do anyway.
I gave them up a few weeks ago when my own Atlanta Falcons joined the insanity.
I don’t quite get this. It’s not the NFL that is disrespecting the flag and the nation. It’s the players (some of them, anyway). And even if the NFL forced the players to stand for the national anthem, that’s not real respect. If some players don’t want to stand, I’d rather know who they are.
And then I would boycott any company that pays those players for endorsements. And companies these days are such cowards that they would withdraw those endorsements at even the hint of a boycott. That would actually affect the players themselves, rather than the league as a whole. Then we could all enjoy the game.
The insanity is about to get worse. Jerry Jones is desperately trying to stop Roger Goodell’s contract extension. One of the provisions in it states that if the NFLPA goes out on strike the Commissioner doesn’t get paid for games lost.
That gives Goodell incentives just to give the union whatever it wants, a complete blank check, just to make sure there’s no interruption in the schedule.
Get ready for the “Racial and Economic Justice Kickoff Weekend” followed by LGBTQIAPK+ week where the ball isn’t the only thing made of leather.
The “Kill the Pigs” Thanksgiving weekend is gonna be lit.
Meh.. since I haven’t had cable for years now I was already not going to tune into football this week any way. And since the Bears have just gotten awful of late I wasn’t going to talk about them anyway as well. I can’t believe you people are still on this thing. Its like over a month old now. Move on already. Kneeling is just a thing now during football games like throwing a ball, or kicking a field goal.
One question. What if you play the anthem all through out the last two minutes of a game to prevent the cheesy move of taking a knee to run out the clock? Lets use this fake controversy for some good people.
No.
That’s why WE have to be the “interruption in the schedule” for them. We need to make it really hurt!
I don’t care if it’s real in their hearts or not. It could be that most of the black players who stand for the National Anthem agree with their ebony brethren, but I accept their respect because they don’t join in. Why? Because they show they respect the views of many of their fans.
When I was at OCS in the 70s, I had an Iranian roommate for a few weeks. I’d be sitting at my desk studying when he’d whip his rug out and start the prayer thing. Early on, I asked him, if he wanted me to leave. He said “No, it’s okay.”
A week later, I had this female OC in my room (yeah, it wasn’t allowed). We were making out when my roomie walked in and dragged his rug out. Once more, I asked him if he wanted us to leave, and he said “No.” However, we stopped our makeout session and waited until he had finished.
Using your term, I didn’t respect his religion. Sure, I forced myself to respect something I didn’t believe in, and I don’t think it’s hypocritical. I think it’s getting along.
These players and the league should get along with their fans. Otherwise, they’ll cease to be what they once were.
Right on; I couldn’t have said it better myself. Force them.
Hmmm… Let me think… OK, for the players: You can remain in the locker room and kneel or raise your ugly fist or wiggle your ears or whatever you want to do, during the National Anthem. If you choose to go out on the field for the Anthem, you will stand with your hand over your heart with your other arm by your side, not touching any other players. Break the rule, one-game suspension. Second offence, two-game suspension, and so on.
I like this rule, because when they come out of the locker room after the Anthem, real Americans can boo them, talk about their mamas, whatever. You know, let the fans exercise their First Amendment Right, too!
So they are bigger fools than I thought.
Neither have I! (Well okay, I never did anyway. Is this the one where they have to bat the puck into the little hole?)
This has devolved into such a circus, I am in favor of forbidding any team to begin the game with the national anthem.
More or less.
This was the last moment of an NFL football game I have seen this year. Nor have I checked scores or anything else – I am free of them.
The NFL is disrespecting the flag and the nation in the same way that a restaurant owner disrespects a customer who is consistently abused by a waiter but then, when confronted about it, says to the customer, ” Eh, its his right to abuse you.” In the NFL you will be fined and/or your team penalized for some forms of dancing in the end zone. Why? It’s a work rule. Players know this and police themselves to avoid a penalty. But outward respect for the flag and country is not a work rule? It doesn’t have to be, but when you trot out the colors for the start of the game and say “In Honor of America” (and have the Department of Defense pay for it) and your players start overtly acting to express their displeasure, it should be. Owners require more discipline with regard to wearing Nikes or whatever shoe is “official” these days than they do for honoring America. How screwed up is that? It’s not a free speech issue. Just try testing that at your workplace. After all if you think the head honcho is a [redacted] isn’t it your God given right to say so? Yes, and it’s his/her God given right to can you. No different for the NFL. And the fact that they don’t is the source of the disrespect.
I have never cared about football, and we never watch at home. But we will be at Sister’s for Thanksgiving, and I will stay in the other room while some relatives watch. I’ll bring my book and read.
My husband isn’t a kid anymore. He loved the Broncos. He’s sitting here tonight scrolling through the channel guide and sees that the Broncos would be playing the Patriots. He said an expletive deleted and kept scrolling. He’s a patriot and a veteran. You stand for the Star Spangled Banner.
These people have been taught to hate us regular Americans. That’s what anti-Americanism is. They hate us and our forefathers. That’s what they have been taught. This is what Obama reveled in.
I’m all for this fight with these poor benighted people who have been taught this lie about America. Let them articulate their views rather than hide them. Let them check if they have been taught a lie or not.
But first get rid of Goodell. Get some adults who love this country into all positions of power and influence in the country. Just like with the administrators of our universities and other schools. Let the debate take place.
Please tell your husband that some guy – and a fellow Veteran – who made a Post about this Boycott thanks him very much, from the bottom of his heart.
Your first mistake is thinking that any of the Empty Suits at the NFL front office are any different from Goodell. They all suckle at the teat of the Player’s Union. Stop thinking that one guy is the reason for this, Larry. :-)
Well, you could watch the game with them and root for the other team just to ruin the experience. Especially if the other team wins; that’ll make someone punch right through the TV.
Heh heh, I crack me up.
We cut the cable last year before the Football season, and I heard nothing but whining from the wife, who is a staunch Ravens fan. She made me promise to have a TV subscription in place for this years season.
Well I complied and the first game she had a chance to watch was the Ravens vs Panthers game that was located in London, and she watch those Bozos take a knee for the anthem, but stand respectfully for God Save the Queen.
That was the last game she has watch this year, and I still have that damn subscription for another month or two. Historically illiterate morons
The NFL did not allow the Cowboys to honor the five policemen who were gunned down last year. They’re inconsistent.
It looks like the boycott is working. Soldier Field was half full for a Bears Packers game!
I have the biggest grin on my face! That story makes me SO happy!
Don’t be mad, be happy that you married a true Patriot. She has my respect.
Are you sure you can’t cancel and get your money back? I heard DirecTV is giving refunds on the Sunday Ticket.
Yes, that was pathetic, Mr. Easton. Also the guy who wanted to wear a 9-11 tribute on his shoes was denied by the “First Amendment NFL”.
I found this today – LA Rams versus Houston Texans, my old favorite team. “Some Seating Available”. Heh.
I would guess that it’s 45% of capacity. That should get the NFL’s attention but it appears that they’ve stopped listening.
