Captain Smith Has Left the Bridge
Looks like the Mainstream Media has decided not to go down with the SS Clinton Feculence.
Since the Clinton campaign of 1992, the general leftward tilt of the MSM morphed into open, full partnership with the Democratic Party. For a quarter of a century, every effort was made to downplay, spin, or defend the utterly sleazoid behavior of both Clintons.
The surprising success of both Trump and Sanders revealed the extent to which the ruling establishment (of which the MSM is a key component) was loathed. Also, as the MSM has become younger and even more expressly leftist, they must have felt a disconnect between their institutional obligations to their official candidate (Hillary) when another guy (Sanders) was taking positions closer to their own views.
In the traumatic aftermath, the unprofessional, near-hysterical MSM war on Trump drove a foolish complete buy-in to the always silly Russian-collusion story, which as it now turns out was actually a parting gift from Team Clinton: one last enormous, ugly lie to be defended and promulgated by their liegemen in the media. (For old times’ sake, I hope Lanny Davis appears on the cable shows every day to tell us each new development is “old news” and that we should “move on” instead of assisting the extreme right in the Clinton-bashing.)
But it’s not just Bill and Hillary who will leave the stage in bad odor. (Dean Baquet [NYT] and Marty Baron [WaPo] will certainly amputate the Clintons from the weird graft to the media they used to enjoy.) But everybody else connected to this “Russia collusion” fiasco will also go and that will be most of what’s left of the entire center-left of the party.
The net effect will be that the only people left standing in the Democratic Party will be the hard left, BLM, La Raza, and the Bernie Bros. Unless the GOP is even more feckless than I think (is that even possible?) and Donald Trump can engineer some spectacularly self-destructive policy-based acts (as opposed to the now normal stream of painfully, needlessly stupid remarks and tweets), the Democrats are pointed toward a McGovernite redux in 2020 in which a distinctly unlovable President slaughters a candidate deemed too far left to be taken seriously.

Your post is spot on. As a minor quibble, I’d suggest we rethink this now common description of Trump’s tweet behavior. I think it’s wonderful that our president has the ability to communicate directly via social media, able to avoid the MSM filter. He uses this tool abrasively and often, but the effect is often just the first move in a direction. Some of his jabs are probably unnecessary or unfashionable, but many of us just don’t care so much. Actions speak, and he has plenty of cover for a few weird tweets.
Again, great post.
From your keyboard to G-d’s eyes.
We hope. I have some friends who came here from Venezuela half-century ago. They can hardly believe what has happen to their old country.
The scenario here looks good but the Trump Administration must get many things done during his remaining time in office and one of the major things is to turn around our education process so that upcoming generations gain a true understanding of the difference between representative democracy and totalitarianism. This is a treasure easily lost.
Good observations. As I scan the news each day, I seem to see item after item that make me think, “Do you want more Trump? THAT is how you get more Trump.”
One recent example: Perez, head of the DNC, stating flat out that the Electoral College is not called for by the US Constitution. And I say, “Do you want . . . etc”
Exactly right, @bobthompson! Unfortunate that we’ve sunk so far into the abyss that Trump has little time to spare in correcting so much.
My dentist this morning asked my why that dimwit refused Dr. Seuss books from Melania, and my quick reply was to cite ineffective and malign education, and no real history lessons, all perpetrated by Dewey and his satanic acolytes.
May I make a suggestion, OP? Please follow POTUS and realDonaldTrump on Twitter. You will find that Trump tweets far more good news and Wins than the… what did you call it? “stream of painfully, needlessly stupid remarks” that you hear about on the news.
Your type of comment is what I hear a lot from people who only hear about Trump’s tweets from the MSM, and shame on people for believing the MSM and not finding out for themselves, like I did.
I even wrote a Post to help you get there.
If you read all his Tweets, and not just the ones the MSM tells you to read, I think you’ll end up understanding why the President occasionally throws a fastball at the opponent’s head. It is never accidental and usually quite necessary.
This was, right down to the hyphen, what I was going to say. ;)
Yes we win sometimes, but evil always comes back and rent seekers always find alternative approaches. So enjoy it to the extent you can, but brace yourselves for round 2…..1/.000001. How do you write power number on these things?
Well…yes it is possible!
Like he wrote. My post exactly. But I would have included the “o”.
