I never knew Sorbo was a Conservative till I started seeing him on RedEye when Greg Gutfeld was still doing it.
Is the movie actually “critically acclaimed” or just by the few critics who booster Christian/conservative movies, like Medved?
It would be great if one of these movies turns out not to be amateurish, pandering claptrap and has wide appeal even to non-religious movie audiences, but I’m not holding my breath, and am skeptical about claims like this.
Even the best attempts fall short and these emotional efforts are usually child like. There’s a place for these films, and I hope they keep it up and make money. It’s probably impossible to address the subject directly. The best christian or faith boosting films address human complexities and challenges, especially real stories, where fortitude, courage, integrity, grit, love rooted in ordinary faith are shown to make all the difference. Curiously the best direct effort at addressing the Christian story are intellectual, Ratzinger’s introduction to Christianity and Bishop Baron’s “Catholicism”, book and videos, which provide insights into why it is so impossible to capture. Indeed it’s the impossibility of direct understanding and the fact that it’s not emotional or schmaltzy at heart that they seem to say is “why the church”
