Recommended by Ricochet Members Created with Sketch. Obama Isn’t President Any More, George!

Well! I guess our audience here has a decision to make about how they feel about this story. Was this supposed “comedian” booed off the stage for inserting political jokes into a juvenile diabetes gala, or are people sensing that President Trump isn’t as bad a guy as the Evil Left has been whining about him? Page Six weighs in on a recent event:

Comic George Lopez was booed off stage at a gala for juvenile diabetes in Denver last week, over an anti-Donald Trump routine that fell flat with the crowd.

The trouble started when Trump backer and Liberty Media CEO Greg Maffei donated $250,000 and didn’t appreciate this supposed “comedian” being nasty (rather than funny) about our President.

An attendee at the event — where tables sold from $5,000 to $100,000 to benefit the Barbara Davis Center for Diabetes — commented on a YouTube video that “George was asked nicely to stop making Trump jokes by a man in the front row [Maffei] who just donated $250K.” But “George doesn’t, continues. Gets booed.”

Lopez upped the nastiness with: “Thank you for changing my opinion on old white men, but it doesn’t change the way I feel about orange men.” That generated more booing.

Trying to recover and sensing the audience turn, Lopez said, “Listen, it’s about the kids … I apologize for bringing politics to an event. This is America — it still is. So I apologize to your white privilege.”

We’re told Lopez also told a joke about Trump’s proposed border wall with Mexico, saying, “I guess you can get some Mexicans to do it cheaper and they wouldn’t crush the tunnels underneath.”

When the audience did not respond well, he quipped, “Are you El Chapo people?” in reference to the drug kingpin who has used tunnels to evade authorities.

Lopez announced a video segment, then apparently left the building. Some local guy took over for him.

TV host Chris Parente posted on Twitter, “big controversy: host of HUGE charity #CarouselBall, @georgelopez, makes political comments about Trump, drops f-bomb and is escorted out.” But a source close to the comedian insisted to Page Six that Lopez’s segment was “only supposed to be four minutes,” even though he was listed as the night’s emcee.

The event raised $1.6 million for juvenile diabetes, and hopefully the foundation folks now understand what “comedian” means.

They should have hired Jeff Dunham instead.

I hope this is the beginning of a trend. Trump has been the butt of stupid jokes quite long enough.

Many of those stupid jokes have come from stupid people. I am amazed at how poorly the Left is able to support their positions with facts. For example, this latest flap involving NFL players and our flag and anthems being protested by those players as if it is a national issue involving the federal government while it is, in fact, a local issue repeated in multiple large crime-infested cities. What is the common factor? It’s local Democrat Party politicians running these cities into the ground and then allowing blame to be shifted to the local police departments. One stupid act followed by another stupid act.

White America, Right America, half the country are getting tired of the hatred toward them. If Lopez came out and made some actual jokes then things would have been good. But he left humor long ago and instead of humor is now a political commentator that ridicules the opposition. People are getting tired of being ridiculed.

I would be especially annoyed if I paid 250K for a table/donation and then be ridiculed and insulted, after quietly requesting the person to desist. Old White man indeed, you stupid and ignorant person, he and all the others are paying your fees!

It’s astounding that he was hired for this gig to begin with. And even more shocking that he didn’t change his routine to better fit his audience.

That said, if this was his usual routine, it would be reasonable for him to assume that the event organizers expected him to do what he usually did.

So I am wondering if this might have been some sort of sabotage on the part of the committee or person responsible for the entertainment that evening.

    It’s an interesting story.

That would be irksome. To be writing 250k checks and being insulted for it. While I understand the Trump remarks are bothersome. The check the white privilege remark was an insult thrown in the teeth of the audience and specifically those writing the checks. I would be inclined to tear my check up n their face and walk out in light of the organizations feeling toward me.

Nah, they probably had a list of “entertainers” available to invite for the Gala, and saw his name, and remembered him from a few years ago when he told normal jokes that were mostly funny, so they picked him. I mean, he had a somewhat funny TV show a decade ago, right?

A lot of people do not understand how terribly broken Hillary’s loss has left some people.

You don’t have to love Trump to be sick of Trump-bashing, especially the brainless kind offered by George Lopez. Lopez once publicly called Sarah Palin the c-word. That’s about as classy as he gets. Lopez probably left the fundraiser thinking there was something wrong with the audience, and with the U.S. citizenry. There is no cure for that mindset.

May his career rest in peace.

It won’t. His career will be enhanced by this event. He is becoming edgy speaking “truth to power” and all that jazz.

A year ago, I would have agreed with you. But look what’s happening to the NFL, ESPN etc. Political correctness is finally getting the stigma it deserves.

We must resist this “President” at every opportunity! If it means ruining an event for sick kids, that is the price that must be paid! This is not the time for laughter or joy, everyone must be miserable until that man is out of “office”. Nothing is more important than destroying this “man”. (And if another ‘R’ gets in office, nothing will be more important than stopping him. Even if it’s a “her” in office, we must stop him.)

The booing seemed dignified. It is only good and decent that charitable people do not put up with racist stereotypes while being charitable.

WT# is wrong with these people? Does everything have to be polluted with their politics? A Juvenile Diabetes fund raiser?

By the way George Lopez is the guy who cheated on and divorced his wife who saved his life by donating a kidney to him.

I’m of two minds on this. On the one hand, it is, of course, appalling that Lopez politicized an event when he didn’t have to. On the other, it mystifies me that talent coordinators who ostensibly know what kind of act they’re hiring, hire someone and then are shocked when he proceeds to do the thing he always does. It’s like people hiring Howard Stern and then biting their nails, lest he say something inappropriate. Note to them: he will. That’s what he does.

JcTPatriot: Trying to recover and sensing the audience turn, Lopez said, “Listen, it’s about the kids … I apologize for bringing politics to an event. This is America — it still is. So I apologize to your white privilege.”

This kind of surprises me, because whatever else George Lopez is, he usually isn’t whiny.

You thought that whiny? Looks like a fake apology set to extend his insults to the people there.

Yeah. There’s something about pretending to apologize and then saying ‘So I apologize to your white privilege.”’ that sounds whiny. Imagine a 19-year-old coed undergrad saying the same thing. It would be all I could do, were I in the audience, to keep from shouting “whaa, whaa!”like a baby at him.

    I used to like him.

I remember when Bush was president, he did an event at the White House with him, and he talked about how he got to stand behind the podium with the Presidential Seal. He noticed Bush had left his speech behind so he kind of took it as a souvenir. Later the Secret Service knocked on his door and asked for the speech back.

His reply was ” so you blamed me because I’m Mexican?”

Their response was , “no sir, we have you on video taking the speech”…..
