Recommended by Ricochet Members Created with Sketch. Why I Am a Reagan Member of Ricochet

I have been a member of Ricochet since it started. I signed up for a free test drive through their Facebook membership. By the time that expired I was hooked and signed up. At the time, the hook was a free membership for NR digital. I have let that lapse and I am still here. National Review used to be my go to page for conservative news, but those days passed somewhere during Obama’s second term. Ricochet is where it is at!

The main feed has news and commentary by contributors. It is not comprehensive by any means, but reflects a broad spectrum of conservative and libertarian thought. I am not sure if it is all “center-right” but I am not sure what that means. I do know that I see, intelligent, topical posts by leading individuals. I don’t always agree, sometimes I do, and sometimes it is just worth a laugh. The gems on the Main Feed, though are not from the professionals, they are from the Members.

The Ricochetti (as we call ourselves) are a diverse group of conservatives and libertarians (with a few brave liberals, God bless ‘em), who do the majority of the posting here. That is where the real action is. Following the Member Feed is a full time job, but that is OK, Ricochet allows you to follow your favorites. For me, anytime one of 103 Members I follow makes a new post, I am alerted to go read it. Not all are prolific, and not all are people with whom I agree most of the time. All of them are people who have something to say that I value. I hope that is the case of the 49 people who follow me.

In Ricochet, I have found a place to discuss politics, religion, family, faith, life, culture, pet, you name it, with other people on the right. Civility is enforced by our overworked and underappreciated moderators using the Code of Conduct. There is room for heated arguments, and heated agreements. I have had tears from reading the struggles of others, support for myself, and laughs at the wicked humor on these pages. If politics is not your thing, you can have a politics free talk about gardening if you so choose.

I consider many people I have never met friends. I have had the pleasure of meeting several face to face at meetups. Unmet, my wife and I hosted a couple for the Atlanta Meet up last year. We discovered so much more in common that politics (nerds rule)! This is a place where you can make connections. Heck, one couple even has a wedding in their future!

And the knowledge! The things I have learned about the world, how things work, how to get things done. I don’t think there has been any “how too” question asked that someone did not have a great answer or three for. I know far more about space probes, computers, living in a simulation, law, trade, war and so much more than I ever knew before.

I treasure Ricochet immensely, even when I have taken leadership to task (@blueyeti, you know it is out of love). I want it to succeed. There is no place like this anywhere else online. So, I choose to pay the big bucks, $500/year to be a Reagan member. I understand that most people cannot afford this, but I could, and so I felt it the right thing to do. I mentioned this is my “go to” instead of National Review Online. I believe that Ricochet is the new coffee and ale house, the new pamphlets of the 21st century. Citizen-writers (or just citizens) with a chance to have a voice, without being shouted down. This thing is worth supporting, more than any donation to someone looking for my vote.

Join Ricochet at whatever level you can afford. We want to meet you. We want to hear from you. We need you.

I can almost see the Gipper’s dental work! This is a great site, but it seems like fundraising time since several are popping up with a similar message? Whatever level you choose, it’s a bargain. I enjoy this site more than any other for the same reason’s you mention!

@Columbo is one of the 49 and I do value what you have to say. I consider you one of my unmet friends.

    Happy Trails Friend!

I feel much the way you do, Brian. Maybe when my business is rolling in excess cash I’ll bump up to Reagan to join you. A worthy and worthwhile goal, I think.

Reagan & a Casablanca clip? Swoon!

As a brand new member (bargain basement status) I’m just beginning to learn the ins & outs of Ricochet but am impressed with what I see so far! Looking forward to the daily insightful readings!

Thanks. I’ve had a lot of arguments on here. But it is a good place to come to expense honest thought. I’ve enjoyed being a member, and keep coming back to it, every chance I get

Nice thoughts, @bryangstephens. I still read National Review, but I gave up Facebook. I prefer the articles here to the cat videos there. :)

Also, I’m sure your Atlanta meet-up was lovely. Georgia boys and their wives know how to host nice shin-digs. (I know. I’m from Georgia.)

Pretty much. There used to be three, but Admiral Janeway retired.

One. @katebraestrup has undergone full metamorphosis, even if she still believes she’s human.

EDIT- Edited for spelling. Not enough coffee yet.

Facebook is just for fun. It is also good a place to gripe, on a private page, when someone parks in an illegal spot, outside your condo, and obstructs your view, when you drive out. :-)

True. Ricochet is just for fun, too. It is a good place to gripe, in a public group, when someone parks a policy in an injurious spot inside your society and obstructs your ability to live well. :D
