Promoted from the Ricochet Member Feed by Editors Created with Sketch. We Need Your Support

It’s that time of year again: the annual membership drive. You know, when Rob Long talks on the flagship podcast about how important it is that people join in order to keep Ricochet afloat, he’s not just blowing smoke. It’s real. We really do need your support to keep this thing going.

Why should you join? Simply put, Ricochet is worth the money. The value you will receive far exceeds the minimal cost. For a small price every month, you get access to a community full of intelligent people to talk to. And it’s not just politics. We talk about everything from theology to Hollywood to travel to cats. This is a real community full of people from diverse backgrounds with interesting points of view.

Does it get rough and tumble sometimes? It sure does. And that’s part of the fun. Unlike the rest of the Internet, which is an open sewer, our community prides itself on civility. It’s about engaging discussion, not throwing semi-literate insults at one another.

But that’s just me. I’m just one guy and I don’t expect you to take my word for it. Here’s what some of our members have to say:

@randyweivoda said:

I joined not so much because I wanted to be able to comment, I just thought that something that was so enjoyable (the podcasts) ought to be supported so they can continue.

@cbtoderakamamatoad says:

I enjoy thoughtful and witty conversation. I get to pick the brains of knowledgeable experts. I can poll a group of people who know what they are talking about to gain new understanding of a complex issue. I get new recipes, book suggestions, and Christmas present ideas. I hear about the weather in other parts of the world. I pray for others and they pray for me.

It spoils me, this wonderful thing, Ricochet. It gets me to thinking that the whole world can communicate the way we tend to, with civility and good-willed attempts to understand the other, but that does not really describe the way things tend to operate outside. Yet another reason to stick around! It’s much more pleasant here.

And @rushbabe49 says:

The reason we stay is the people, both members and contributors. Just after I joined, another member invited me to an audio meetup and I loved speaking with everyone. We attended our first meet up in Seattle in January of 2013. The people of Ricochet are simply the best, and we love that there are like-minded people in our most blue neighborhood, here in western Washington. We’re in it for the long haul.

I could keep going. There’s a good reason our members love Ricochet. There’s a good reason I love Ricochet. And there’s a good reason they keep coming back. Membership is cheap and if you join today, you can get a free month. Why do we give away a free month? Because we know that if you try it, you’ll stick around.

So why not give it a try?

    Fred Cole: It’s that time of year again: the annual membership drive.

    It’s official. Fred has gone full-on NPR. :)

    I’m getting mixed messages here. Do you want me to renew or not?

    I gave up Facebook. I talk here. There’s still plenty of back and forth, but it’s less personal. And the podcasts are awesome. I listen to the Three Martini Lunch every single day. The cost per month is less than a cup of coffee.

    I joined because I wanted to share my thoughts and I stay because I get people like Fred who actually take the time to read what I wrote and then share their thoughts with me.

    This is a great place.

    I joined years ago because my wife knows the punch lines to all my jokes. Here I have a whole new audience to politely twitter at my stale humor….

    That said, this place has been a great refuge for a conservative to seek solace while living in a deep blue hades. Meeting the folks behind the avatars has been a special joy. Between the four meet ups that I have attended, plus my personal outreach missions, I think I can fairly claim to have met over 100 Ricochetti IRL domain.

    Too bad they can’t convince some followers from some other “center-right” podcasts to post here.

    Adam Carolla has been hanging out with Dennis Prager doing the free speech thing.

    Hugh Hewitt has hughniverse.com even with old 2012 James Lileks stuff, but that website never seemed to take off.

    Dennis Miller had a decent forum for his old conservative/comedy radio show, but he sort of checked out in 2015 after Romney was defeated and even further after his weekly spots with Bill O’Reilly stopped this year. The rest of the people from Dennis’ old show are at the Bladt Cast‏ podcast. Of course, there is Bill O’Reilly himself, and Glenn Beck seems to be in some website transitioning.

    Canadian professor Jordan Peterson seems to have really taken off on youtube.

    The folks down by the studios at Dailywire.com and the Rubin Report have produced some interviews and stuff that has really taken off.

    Herman Cain dropped over 100 of his radio stations as syndication apparently isn’t really profitable anymore unless I guess you are one of the big names.

    It seems like some former politicians like Rick Santorum and Artur Davis used to post here.

    You mean all of those Weekly Standard and Washington Examiner people and their podcasts didn’t help out?

    Of course I’ll renew. One of these days Mona will write a pro-Trump column and I have to be there.

    Well, I’ll renew anyway.

    That would be a sure sign of the End Times. Or maybe Early Times. It’s one of those.

    There is no better place to have discussions on the internet. The Code of Conduct keeps things at a decent tone. And there are so many discussions that are about deeper things, in life, in love and in family. It is not all political on the Member Feed, which is where the real action is at.

    I follow 103 members, because I want to make sure I read everything they post. For some strange reason, 49 are following me.

    I’d have been more impressed if it wasn’t just 12 pictures of DocJay. But the ladies seem to like it. And did Mike LaRoche take the September picture? Jay in a cheerleader skirt, waiving his Pompoms is quite fetching. The 2018 Calendar is free if you join now. If you buy two memberships, the PTB will substitute the @Rightangles version for @docjay .

    I would suggest if you are a Trump supporter or anyone that gives him a fair shake that you should think long and hard about joining. It may not be worth the headache, but then again what do I know.

    If you are looking for a site where everyone agrees with you, then indeed Ricochet is not for you. Whether the topic is Donald Trump, immigration, the war on drugs, gay marriage, Islam, Christianity, atheism, taxation, Coke vs. Pepsi, Israel and the Palestinians, the war on terror, support for police, Windows vs. Mac, childless marriages, libertarianism, or pizza toppings you will find people on at least two sides of each issue. Many of us like it that way. We’re so tolerant of diverse opinions that someone can comment on a post asking people to join, and tell them not to join.

    We have no problem with differing opinions. It is the denigration and derision from the NT’s that we cannot support.
