Rock the Vote!

Amidst news of moderate Senate Republicans reneging on their long-made promises to repeal ObamaCare and President Trump publicly chastising his Attorney General, speculation has swirled about the 2018 race for the United States Senate in the state of Michigan. Debbie Stabenow, who has held the seat since defeating Spencer Abraham in 2000, is likely to seek re-election to a fourth term. Among her possible Republican opponents may be one Robert James Ritchie, better known to the world as rap, rock, and country recording artist Kid Rock.

*record scratch*

Kid Rock?! That’s right. The loud and proud Michigan native issued a press release on July 26 in which he stated he is exploring a possible candidacy:

…the media has speculated this was a ploy to sell shirts or promote something. I can tell you, I have no problem selling Kid Rock shirts and yes, I absolutely will use this media circus to sell/promote whatever I damn well please (many other politicians are doing the same thing, they just feed you a bunch of [redacted] about it). But either way, money raised at this time through the sale of merchandise associated with this very possible campaign will go towards our ‘register to vote’ efforts.

One thing is for sure though…The democrats are [redacted] in their pantaloons’ right now…and rightfully so!

It ain’t just the Democrats, believe me. I’d wager not more than a few establishment Republican office-holders and bow-tied conservative pundits are likewise reaching for the smelling salts. But they should not be surprised, for the election of Donald Trump was just the beginning of the bitter harvest they are now reaping.

On the other hand, such hand-wringing may all be for naught. At the conclusion of his statement, Kid Rock says that he will be making a final decision on whether or not to run within the next six weeks. And there are some mitigating factors for him to consider, such as his lack of political experience and the existence of a sex tape.

Nonetheless, should Kid Rock decide to run, he will have my full support and perhaps even a donation to his campaign. I would do so for the same reason I donated to and voted for Donald Trump last year: the political establishment has failed and continues to fail this country.

Just like John Paul Jones more than two centuries ago, the Deplorables have not yet begun to fight.

Great.  Just what we need.  More coarsening of the culture.

Sort of like Andy Kaufman and the co-ed wrestling championship?

While I do find this story and your guys’s commentary fun, I’m going to admit that this kind of thing overall makes me feel sad and worried for the Republic.  NOT because I believe the health of the Republic hasn’t already been compromised, or that I want the current status quo to remain.  But I don’t think it’s ultimately good for the Right side of the aisle to embrace crassness in politics and throw all standards with regards to their candidates’ personal morality away.

I think for many the feeling is that the country’s already likely past the point of no return, so might as well have fun with the conflagration and throw all the rotten fruits of the Left’s long assault on decency back in their faces.

I also think many are hoping that by getting in the mud with the Left we can eventually get the country to wake up to the ridiculousness of it all and begin the return to sanity.  But I’m skeptical.

As a Christian I have a hard time believing that this sort of thing is the real answer to our problems as a country.  We are making a lot of our enemies’ heads explode, and maybe doing a better job than before of exposing Leftist hypocrisy.  But I feel like we’re losing some precious things and ceding moral high ground, and I’m not sure how we’ll ever recover it.

“The chair recognizes Senator Bawitdaba from the great state of Michigan.”

That was hilarious! I laughed so hard I nearly (redacted) myself.

    Doesn’t everyone?

Mine’s all on digital.  What is this? 1994?

I think we were using tape in the loose sense. After all, his “tape” was probably never an actual magnetic tape either.

It’s tragic, but it’s the public world Democrats have created with control of education (at all levels) for decades.  Republicans (the elites, at least) behave like politics is a non-lethal fencing match in a ring with rules.  So they show up for the fight with blunted epées and get blasted by a full-auto M-16.

We have to take the left’s political advantages away from them, however messy it may be.

Indeed. Call it a “transition phase” to something better and less messy … in the future.

NTers … you will never get your “unmessy” utopian future without getting dirty first in this war (yes, a cold civil war) with the Left. Sad. But true.

The Dems. have more celebrities than we do and more people who will knee-jerk vote for the party than we do. We probably have a couple of Senate seats where they may run celebs.

I hope Trump can get out of the weeds and back into play.  We need real serious progress.

What I fear is “Oprah for President, 2020.”
