Breaking: Vehicle Plows into Pedestrians in London

The first report from the BBC:

A vehicle has struck pedestrians “leaving a number of casualties” in north London, police said. One person has been arrested following the incident on Seven Sisters Road in Finsbury Park.

Officers were called at 12.20 BST and are at the scene with other emergency services, the Metropolitan Police said. A London Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We have sent a number of resources to an incident in Seven Sisters Road.”

Early reports indicate that the vehicle struck people leaving the Finsbury Park mosque, which has been implicated in several terror incidents. It remains to be seen if this an attack of retribution.

Update from the BBC (6:50 pm ET):

The Muslim Council of Britain (MCB) said a van “intentionally” ran over worshippers. Many of the victims are believed to have just left evening prayers after breaking the Ramadan fast.

One eyewitness who lives in a flat on Seven Sisters Road told the BBC she saw people “shouting and screaming”.

“Everyone was shouting ‘a van’s hit people’.

“There was this white van stopped outside Finsbury Park Mosque that seems to have hit people who were coming out of the mosque after prayers finished.”

It’s another crime that wouldn’t have happened if there were no Muslims in the U.K., but perhaps a little less ‘on message’.

Also this being reported from the US.  Any further info?

If it’s true that the driver was screaming, “I’m going to kill all Muslims,” it’s not likely internecine Islamic violence.

Doesn’t sound like he’ll accomplish his goal, either.

More than a billion left, fellah. It’s gonna take you awhile at this rate and if you go and get arrested like that.

You can only push people so far.   Now usually, there are no consequences for acts of terror like Manchester, London Bridge,San Bernardino, Orlando– ‘crept mushy platitudes and hashtags about “strength” (after-the-fact!)

But sometimes, , acts of terrorism, gratuitous murder, especially multiple instances visited on a population, have actual, real world consequences.  This may be one of those times.

Make fun of this man for being an “army of one”–just like Hodgkinson, who very nearly succeeded in decapitating the legislative branch of our government.   Just like the “lone wolf” Ramadan killers.

If this does turn out to be a white Brit motivated by a desire to avenge the deaths in Manchester and London,

please, I implore  you, just remember one thing:

We’re not all like him!  Most of us are peaceful law-abiding citizens! Christianity is a “Religion of Peace”! Please: don’t give in to hate!

Oh great now we’ll have endure endless sanctimonious lectures about reprisals. After 20 years of warning they finally have an example of it happening …

Too early to tell if this is counter-terrorism, or yet another instance of internecine Islamic violence.

    Counter-terrorism? You mean revenge murder?

You can speak the truth about Islamic terrorism without speaking apologetically toward non-Islamic terrorism.

    Who’s apologizing?

    You, in the Greek sense.

Oh, DUH!  ????? I’m sure you and your Likers are all “Grecian”.

One way to avoid having Crazies do stuff like this would be to have police, intelligence, and military forces actually do something about Islamic militants before they attack. They all seem to be under surveillance–perhaps something more than surveillance could be tried? And isn’t incitement a crime—-maybe the preachers could be prosecuted for incitement or aiding and abetting.?

Keeping them under surveillance until they kill is unsatisfactory.

Islamic Terror is both killing us, and corrupting our governments and populaces.

Oh and how about we stop bringing in any more ?

You’re right. This man never would have been able to mow down innocent Muslims leaving a mosque if they hadn’t been allowed in the country.

Imagine?  You don’t need to imagine it!  Check into the Wayback Machine with Omar Mateen!  I was still on Facebook at the time, nad it was full of people saying things like,” if you opposed same-sex  marriage, you were the bullets in the gun”.   It wasn’t the Muslim Mateen who did the shooting; it was Evangelical Christians!  All of ’em, guilty!

And this despite Mateen’ own heroic efforts (calling 911, tweeting) to make it unmistakeably clear what his motive was.

No one with “intellectual credibility” (ok I’ll give you that one) or “influence” blaming their opposition en masse? Ya hear Schumer and Pelosi?  A Leftist soldier kills Republicans–and its Trump supporters’ fault.  We’re all just like Hodgkinson.  They can’t even be bothered to wait till some Trimp, supporter actually does some violence (which hasn’t happened yet.)

What we won’t see is the London Metropolitan Police deploying officers in “white”neighborhoods because they fear a backlash.

i.e. the standard response to the usual brand of  terror attack.

Also this being reported from the US. Any further info?

The info in the article seems fairly complete. There is one puzzling aspect of the story:

Police said Monday they aren’t investigating the death as a hate crime, but the issue was on the minds of many Muslims on Sunday.

Indeed, why isn’t this being treated as a hate crime? One possibility: the alleged killer is Darwin Martinez Torres. Perhaps this is a bit too intersectional for the police. The poor dears are probably confused about the grievance hierarchy.

I’m puzzled as well.  I wonder if there’s something in the background of the suspect or of the crime that hasn’t been released.  What else happened.  If he only wanted to kill her because she was a Muslim, moving the body doesn’t make sense.  But if he was out prowling for a victim to rape and murder, then it isn’t a hate crime.  And if that doesn’t demonstrate the intellectual bankruptcy of the entire concept, nothing ever will.

Usually it’s couched more in terms like, “the problem won’t be solved until we kill all the Muslims.”  I suppose you could say that’s not a call for killing all Muslims.
