Breaking: Terror in London

London Metropolitan Police on London Bridge.

A van plowed into a crowd on London Bridge, followed by knife attacks, according to reports out of the UK. Police also say armed officers are responding in nearby the Borough Market area. Early reports have noted significant gunfire.

“The prime minister is in contact with officials and is being regularly updated on the incident at London Bridge,” read a statement by Downing Street. President Trump has also been notified and is following developments.

The BBC is offering live updates here. Sky News updates are here, and also are being broadcast in the States by Fox News.

Updates:

Statement from Metropolitan Police Assistant Commissioner Mark Rowley at 10:58 pm ET (3:58 am BST):

“Since late yesterday evening [Saturday, 3 June], the Metropolitan Police Service has been responding to incidents in the London Bridge and Borough Market areas of south London. We are treating this as a terrorist incident and a full investigation is already underway, led by the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command.

“You will understand that our knowledge of the incident is still growing but what we understand at the present time is:

  • At 22:08hrs yesterday evening we began to receive reports that a vehicle had struck pedestrians on London Bridge.
  • The vehicle continued to drive from London Bridge to Borough Market.
  • The suspects then left the vehicle and a number of people were stabbed, including an on-duty British Transport Police officer who was responding to the incident at London Bridge. He received serious but not life-threatening injuries. His family has been informed.
  • Armed officers responded very quickly and bravely, confronting three male suspects who were shot and killed in Borough Market. The suspects had been confronted and shot by the police within eight minutes of the first call. The suspects were wearing what looked like explosive vests but these were later established to be hoaxes.
  • “The ongoing operation is led by the Met, working closely with British Transport Police, City of London Police, the London Ambulance Service and the London Fire Brigade.

“At this stage, we believe that six people have died in addition to the three attackers shot dead by police. And at least 20 casualties have been taken to six hospitals across London.

So apparently, Theresa May’s response to this to try to convince muslim immigrants that European/British ways are superior to their ways.

Expect backlash as she is decried as a white supremacist.

And yet, the claim that these people should be free to follow their own beliefs and values in THEIR own country is met with backlash.

It is true, that if you leave your country seeking a better way of life, you should adapt to the culture you port yourself into. If you are unwilling to do so, GO HOME.

This is not a racist message. It is practical, it is based in reality.

At this time, vans do not attack others. People do.

Don’t worry, self-driving vehicles are coming.

Haha. I was not energetic enough to tie that in. But I momentarily considered it.

Kind of surprised that drones have not been suspects yet.

An easy first step would be to bring the gentleman’s cane back into fashion. While it won’t defend against the car, a swinging rod of heavy wood will make short work of any knife attack.

Then the government would just implement anti-cane laws.

Lots of places already have laws where those would be considered weapons already.

And don’t forget, Medical Doctors in Britain have been campaigning since 2005 to ban the sale of long kitchen knives with points.

In response to this, Tesco instituted a policy banning the sale of flatware to persons under 18 and the police have a campaign urging people to turn in knives.

I don’t know if Tesco’s policy is still in place.

    Oh. Brother.

    I mean oh, Big Brother.

Found the caption a bit odd…

As Rush Limbaugh has been noting for years, SUVs have been killing and injuring people for a long time. Now it has spread to vans.

    Vans are such copy cars.

Recall that for a decade or so, the UK has banned American political commentators like Savage, Geller, and Spencer and threatened Israeli politicians with arrest, while letting in all sorts of Islamist scum.

Ricochet needs a like type button for crazy talk.

    seriously UK bans people?

Most countries do. It is sort of like the US no-fly list.

I approve of this score card approach, probably to my demise.

but I still find it horrifying.

Arahant assures me that jokes are a psychological release in times of stress. I confess, I laughed. But alas, I do not feel better about the future. Not at all.

That is also understandable. Gallows humor might get us along our way for another day, but it does not address the real problem, which many of our political leaders seem unwilling to do.

Now all we need is the Islamist version of Jerry Lewis hosting a telethon.

I saw a story in which a police officer heroically attacked all three murderers with his baton and kept at it until he was stabbed in the head, face and arm.

    Brave Bobby.

And: If he’d had a gun, he could have taken them all out, right there.

Question: I saw a picture of British anti-terror police. They were wearing balaclavas. Is that to conceal their identities from mentally ill lone-wolves, or from organized, homegrown Islamic terrorists?
