Breaking: Terror in London

London Metropolitan Police on London Bridge.

A van plowed into a crowd on London Bridge, followed by knife attacks, according to reports out of the UK. Police also say armed officers are responding in nearby the Borough Market area. Early reports have noted significant gunfire.

“The prime minister is in contact with officials and is being regularly updated on the incident at London Bridge,” read a statement by Downing Street. President Trump has also been notified and is following developments.

The BBC is offering live updates here. Sky News updates are here, and also are being broadcast in the States by Fox News.

Updates:

Statement from Metropolitan Police Assistant Commissioner Mark Rowley at 10:58 pm ET (3:58 am BST):

“Since late yesterday evening [Saturday, 3 June], the Metropolitan Police Service has been responding to incidents in the London Bridge and Borough Market areas of south London. We are treating this as a terrorist incident and a full investigation is already underway, led by the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command.

“You will understand that our knowledge of the incident is still growing but what we understand at the present time is:

  • At 22:08hrs yesterday evening we began to receive reports that a vehicle had struck pedestrians on London Bridge.
  • The vehicle continued to drive from London Bridge to Borough Market.
  • The suspects then left the vehicle and a number of people were stabbed, including an on-duty British Transport Police officer who was responding to the incident at London Bridge. He received serious but not life-threatening injuries. His family has been informed.
  • Armed officers responded very quickly and bravely, confronting three male suspects who were shot and killed in Borough Market. The suspects had been confronted and shot by the police within eight minutes of the first call. The suspects were wearing what looked like explosive vests but these were later established to be hoaxes.
  • “The ongoing operation is led by the Met, working closely with British Transport Police, City of London Police, the London Ambulance Service and the London Fire Brigade.

“At this stage, we believe that six people have died in addition to the three attackers shot dead by police. And at least 20 casualties have been taken to six hospitals across London.

The Sun should give us the caption writer’s name so we can put it in sneer quotes.

Yes, the van did it.  Those lone wolf vans can be very dangerous.

The unarmed police did not confront the jihadis.

Witnesses said they saw two men stabbing people outside the well-known Roast restaurant in Borough market. A chef from the nearby Fish restaurant said: “I saw two guys with big knives downstairs outside Roast. They were stabbing people. The police were running away, they were community police. They were normal officers, they were running away.

UPDATE: Credit Where Credit is Due:

British Transport Police officer, who has only been with the force for two  years, has been praised for his remarkable bravery in the face of terror.

The man, who remains unnamed, is recovering from his injuries in hospital after he was stabbed during the London Bridge terror attackas he confronted the attackers armed with only a baton.

The officer was one of the first on the scene after he responded to calls for help from the public after a vehicle ploughed into pedestrians on London Bridge.

BTP chief constable Paul Crowther, who visited the officer in hospital where he is in a stable condition after suffering face, head and leg injuries, said he showed “enormous courage in the face of danger”.

An also unnamed off duty Metropolitan Police officer was also stabbed multiple times defending the public.

    From the BBC feed

An eyewitness told LBC radio what he saw tonight.

The taxi driver said: “A van came from London Bridge itself, went between the traffic light system and rammed it towards the steps. It knocked loads of people down.

“Then three men got out with long blades, 12 inches long and went randomly along Borough High Street stabbing people at random.”

    Just another display of diversity.

    Happy Ramadan.

So when shutting down immigration doesn’t cut back on terrorist attacks, then what?

Well I suggest we give it a try.

    What do you suggest?

Bluntly, the problem was imported. Warsaw doesn’t have these attacks. They didn’t import a hostile population. Maybe the first thing to do when you find yourself in a hole is to stop digging.

Don’t you get it? if we don’t continue to bring in millions, the peaceful muslims already here are threatening to kill us.

At this time, vans do not attack others. People do. So maybe this:

Police vehicles surround the white van driven by those believed responsible for the attack.

    Better yet:

Police vehicles surround the white van witnesses identified as part of an attack on pedestrians.

The three men who did this were muslims.  If their mosque was now being demolished by the British Army, their non-citizen families being expelled, their home towns in Libya or Pakistan or wherever now glowing from the strike of tactical nuclear weapons, this would end.  Very, very quickly.

No western politician has the stones to do what is necessary.  This is a civilizational struggle that has played out over centuries, and we are very deliberately losing.

This reminds me that terrorists know they have 8 minutes, and seem to play the game, How many infidels can you murder or maime in 8 minutes.

Once the murder run is over, the terrorists and their supporters watch the media coverage, to get info on how to improve their game.

Does no leader understand the dynamics of this insanity?

“As I write, six members of the public are dead, and three attackers. I’m wary of weighing in as the situation is unfolding, but, though the details are always different, in the end the story is always the same. And, as I said only the other day, the reality of what is happening in Britain and Europe is that this problem was imported and that, until you stop importing it, you’re going to have more of it.”

    Mark Steyn.

    Emphasis on the last line.

Since 9/11 the US muslim population has more than doubled, mainly due to immigration.

    Stop it. Now.

If Britain’s massive Muslim influx were sincerely based on building a multicultural tapestry of cultural enrichment, one could almost understand it, but instead we know it was a cynical plot by UK’s Labour Party to “radically change the country and ‘rub the Right’s nose in diversity‘”. Given how “on message” the international Left is, there is no reason to believe the motives of the American Left are any less cynical and destructive.

I guess U.K. Labour didn’t and doesn’t realize terrorists are not interested in diversity, but precisely the opposite.

I’m curious as to the demographics of UK immigration, and how incidents of murder correlate to countries of origin.

An easy first step would be to bring the gentleman’s cane back into fashion. While it won’t defend against the car, a swinging rod of heavy wood will make short work of any knife attack.

Then the government would just implement anti-cane laws.

And don’t forget, Medical Doctors in Britain have been campaigning since 2005 to ban the sale of long kitchen knives with points.

In response to this, Tesco instituted a policy banning the sale of flatware to persons under 18 and the police have a campaign urging people to turn in knives.

I don’t know if Tesco’s policy is still in place.

So much for the claim of Diversity being strength.

Diversity is clearly not the goal. It isn’t about being “nice”. It isn’t about thinking immigration helps your country no matter what. If it was, then the people listed above would be welcome just as we welcome immigrants from all over the world. But we don’t. So clearly, there’s a different motive.

But let us not trouble ourselves. Saying no to immigrants is mean and unfair. So don’t you dare say no, or I’ll tell Big Daddy on you.

Yeah, I’m well aware of the “ban pointy knives” campaign in England.  Because nobody could possible own a grinder or even a rock… The problem isn’t pointy knives, it’s the people with pointy heads who come up with these idiotic policies.
