Never Forget the Price of Freedom – Michael P. Ramirez
Sacrifices made to preserve freedom are woven into the warp and weft of our great nation. My kids, even the eye-rolling scoffer who didn’t vote for Trump, have agreed to take time out from picnics and fun to participate in a small ceremony tonight to say “thank you” to our fallen heroes. What is your tradition for Memorial Day?

Will watch Memorial Mass for the Military Archdiocese tomorrow a.m. (Weather will prevent my attending services at the cemetery.) Have to remember and pray, before I eat and play with sibs, nieces/nephs/greats. Thank you and S/F, brothers and sisters! (This is eloquent, Mr. Ramirez!)
I never stop marveling at his combination of artistic talent and the ability to conceptualize so well.
Thank you, Nanda. Michael just returned recently from a tour with the USO. He loves our military, and quietly does all kinds of things to thank them.
I wouldn’t have doubted this for a nano-second, dear 6’2″. :-)
Me too!
We have two flags out: almost every house on our street has a flag at the curb which we requested from the Veteran’s Club (which offered flags for a small fee for national holidays). And then we put a flag over our garage door. Tomorrow morning our meditation group will observe a moment of silence before we close, to honor those we’ve lost. Thanks to you, Melissa, for giving us the chance to honor those who have passed, and Michael Ramirez for his dedication to this country
I have a flag out over my garage and earlier this evening I grilled some New York strip steaks with corn-on-the-cob. Also had a blue cheese salad. Hot and humid today in the Texas Hill Country; summer has arrived!
Ummm….It’ll be a bit soggy tomorrow a.m. Heaven’s tears, sun later, so flag out later.
Took two grandsons and one grand daughter for a walk today (the only way the mothers were going to have time to make dinner )
we counted flags as we wandered the blocks. The good news is grand daughter at 20 months can count to three.
Better news is there were a LOT more than three flags on our walk.

I had hoped to resume a year’s long tradition I had of attending a local memorial service. Unfortunately I’m hobbled by a bit of a back injury this year and so will likely be watching the observances from Arlington on television. So many lives lost, so many good and honorable people who gave their last breath… It’s overwhelming to seriously ponder it all, yet ponder it we should. Their sacrifices ought never to be in vain. Thank you for sharing this, Melissa.
WORKOUT OF THE DAY
Thursday 050818
295
“Murph”
For time:
1 mile Run
100 Pull-ups
200 Push-ups
300 Squats
1 mile Run
In memory of Navy Lieutenant Michael Murphy, 29, of Patchogue, N.Y., who was killed in Afghanistan June 28th, 2005.
This workout was one of Mike’s favorites and he’d named it “Body Armor”. From here on it will be referred to as “Murph” in honor of the focused warrior and great American who wanted nothing more in life than to serve this great country and the beautiful people who make it what it is.
Partition the pull-ups, push-ups, and squats as needed. Start and finish with a mile run. If you’ve got a twenty pound vest or body armor, wear it.
I followed this link from Instapundit today — could not be more appropriate on this Memorial Day. I salute thee, U.S. Marine 2nd Lt. James Cathey, and all your fellow heroes.
Going to work. RN at hospice wing VA Hospital San Diego.
Take our thanks and prayers with you, please? (Prayers for you, as well.)
Here’s what Rex Tillerson is doing on Memorial Day:

As is a Gold Star father, Vietnam-vet, church friend, who lost his son, [LTC Michael McLaughlin, USA Reserves, Pennsylvania] in an ambush at a meeting of tribal elders in al-Anbar province in January 2006. Way to go, SOS Tillerson!
I played 18 holes of golf up at Lake Tahoe, had a beer and snack, drove home and BBQ’ed a steak (no fancy cut). I remembered platoon members and good times. Summer was always good in the Army, the Brass left us alone for the most part–they had families too. West Germany was spectacular. Lots of beer and pretty girls. North Carolina wasn’t bad either, we could drive to the beach but that was a long day trip so we’d get a cheap motel for the night. The managers were never to happy with 4 or 5 Army paratroopers in one room–they thought we were Marines–same haircut, just smarter.
Thanks Michael (and 6’2″).
Them’s fightin’ words, Jim! (Hold still so I can tickle you ’til you laugh yourself silly…).
I’m laughing.
Good! Laughter is healthy for you! Betcha didn’t know this is part of MCMAP – MARDIV PANDA protocol [just for moi] :-)
I left that comment for you to handle@nandapanjandrum
Thanks, @annefy: See mine above…Handled satisfactorily? :-)
