This Is an Interesting Case of Media Bias
There is a story that I first heard on my local Seattle radio station, KTTH 770 AM, this afternoon while waiting in the drive-through line at Starbucks. It involves a biology professor at Evergreen State College in Olympia. It seems that the students of color at our most far-left institution of Higher (?) Education, every year have an event called Day of Absence/Day of Presence, where the students of color leave campus for a day and do their own anti-racism workshops (I assume they skip all their classes that day and talk to each other about how oppressed they are by the faculty and students of pallor). This year, they decided to change the format, and instead of absenting themselves from campus, they “invited” all the white students and faculty to stay away for that day, leaving the campus to them.
Biology Professor Bret Weinstein was not too happy about that, and he said so in an email to the person organizing the event.

I checked all the local media Web sites, including KOMO, KING, and KIRO, and saw nary a mention of this issue. Just a normal day in the Leftist Paradise, I guess.

Evergreen State College, are they still accredited? They went off the deep end years ago.
Tucker Carlson interviewed him tonight. He said the college president had a meeting with the students, and it was crazier than anything in the video of him and the students in his classroom.
What happened to “expelling” unruly students?
We have gone off the rails with regards to education, and allowing liberal garbage to infiltrate young impressionable minds. Education should be equal to all and this behavior condones separating people on the basis of color and that is racism or reverse-racism. Either way, it needs to go, and kids need to learn together.
I think Washington state has got to be one of the whitest in the country, though I don’t have the actual statistics on that. If that holds for the colleges in the state as well, I would think classes would be pretty empty on ‘whitey go home’ day.
What is so wrong with everyone being present on a day devoted to constructive thinking about eliminating racism? With their attitude, it sounds like they ought to have renamed the day to Reverse Your Privilege Day, where the students of color get to try on being a racist for a day — i.e., giving themselves the power to evict/chase off students and faculty of pallor. It doesn’t seem like this can get much crazier.
Freshman enrollment at the University of Missouri is down 20% this year, despite their having dispensed with the services of the professor who needed muscle.
Evergreen State may well develop the same reputation and the same results.
I keep thinking: Parents are paying for this? What are they thinking?
I remember being seriously annoyed when my Intellectual History professor announced in class that “of course” next week’s classes were canceled.
What do you mean, of course? I enquired.
“Because of the game.
“What game?”
Everyone looked at me as if I’d sprouted antennae. “Um…the Hoyas are in the Final Four?” (Or something like that).
“Basketball?” I said. “I’m missing a discussion of Michel Foucault’s The Birth of the Clinic because of basketball?”
Looking back on it, it was probably a piece of luck, really. But I paid for that class, dammit! I can’t imagine how annoyed I’d be if classes were canceled for this baloney.
I think the colleges and universities in the country are trying to start a civil war. They are doing a good job of it.
Ah, the poster child of the perpetually aggrieved. There is a good case to be made for drug therapy, and I would be willing to overlook the fact that people like this might not have a prescription for all the drugs they might need.
What’s funny is how the left shrugs off the truth that it has been the Democratic Party that was the party of Jim Crow. That all changed in 1968 or 72 or whenever when the racists all left the Democratic Party and became Republicans, they say. But who is it that continues to call for segregation of the races?
I’ve speculated before that campus politics may drive more and more students to online universities so they can avoid the “social” aspects of college.
Yeah, but then Gonzaga went and hired her. So now Washington State has one more leftwing fascist.
I saw that. The video of the incident was disturbing to say the least. The prof told Tucker that he’s a dedicated progressive who is alarmed at what the Left is becoming. Let’s hope they lose more and more people with this behavior.
When school administrators grow a backbone, but that will never happen.
That’s true partly because they have created a monster that even they cannot control and that will eat them first!
Why would they? They are winning and people rally to the winning side.
Not media bias, just not news to them. Why would they report it. It is like reporting that the earth has gravity today.
I understand that Evergreen State has a hiring policy of only hiring progressives to teach there. Maybe the Trump Education Department should take a look at that, because it’s Discrimination, and Ed Policy looks down on Discrimination.
On the other hand, if they tried, the civil service, unionized staff of the agency would probably openly rebel against any investigation. let alone sanctions on a sacred institution.
As a Washington state taxpayer, I am tired of being forced to subsidize this intolerant, anti-intellectual nonsense. Since I live in a purplish legislative district where my state legislators need to actually listen to the people occasionally, I intend to push them to defund this school, and any other like it, until reforms are made.
It may not do any good, but I’ll feel slightly better.

If the professor still refers to himself as a Progressive, then he is not yet ready to grow. Until he accepts what a load of crap Progressivism is and always has been, he will never move on. What we are witnessing is the inevitable result of Progressivism – a movement with no limiting principles.
I’ll repeat my optimistic/experienced assertion: once you crack the facade, the whole edifice starts to crumble. And this is a heck of a crack—he sounds like a reasonably smart man, and so there’s hope that he won’t be able to sustain his “progressivism.”
Yes, it is. The school was originally created for “environmental studies”, and you know who the environmentalists are. Rush describes them as a main branch of Liberal Fascists.

I’ve always called myself an environmentalist – a right-wing, conservative environmentalist. It’s the only good kind of conservative or environmentalist.

As for the media bias … it’s only “news” if it’s out of the ordinary.
It has to get much worse before it has a chance of getting better. This probably means starting from scratch, i.e., alternatives to conventional universities such as internet-based learning. For now the universities own this space but at least it’s absent the overt cultural-marxist propaganda, except in social science and humanities. Not sure what’s going to fix those areas.
