Terror Attack in Manchester
Immediately following a concert in Manchester, England, an explosion tore through the venue. As of 10:40 pm ET, 19 people have died and about 50 are injured in the suspected terror attack.
Pop singer Ariana Grande was appearing at the 21,000-seat Manchester Arena. After the show, about 10:35 local time, there was a blast in the foyer. The cause is unknown but Prime Minister Theresa May said it “is being treated by the police as an appalling terrorist attack.”
May suspended her general election campaign and counter-terrorism officers are investigating the incident. Early, unconfirmed reports claim the explosion was carried out by a suicide bomber, while other reports indicate two blasts.
BBC is providing live updates here.

Sir, thank you for highlighting this event. It appears that the attackers planned this attack to maximize chaos. God bless the victims and their loved ones.
May the perpetrators rot in Hell. When will enough be enough? Not a facile question…
My tears are flowing as I think of those parents who don’t know where their kids are right now as there are still missing children. I so hate terrorists and can’t imagine doing harm to innocent children.
Let’s not jump to any conclusions about who’s responsible here. It could be just about anyone.
Clearly, the answer is open borders and more Muslim immigration.
God rest the souls of the innocent slain and may the attackers burn in hell.
Yes, must be one of those right-wing wackos critical of the NHS.
I would love nothing more than to force our open borders fanatics to have to be face to face with the parents of these dead and preach their facts about how terror is not that big a deal, statistically.
I want some spectacle of retribution here.
They’re comparing this to the Boston Marathon bombing, so let’s drag Joker Tsarnaev outta his cushy federal cell, where he’s being fed and housed and protected at our expense:
strap him to a chair with a nail bomb under it, timed to go off in a few hours
stuff his mouth ful of excrement and tape it shut.
What can you do about something like Manchester, or Paris, or Boston? Well, be aware that this sort of thing is targeted at crowds, and plan accordingly. They (it’s a “they” that did this, guaranteed. There will be a cell inside a local mosque that helped this loser off himself, probably one that was known to the authorities beforehand) didn’t hit inside the arena, because the metal detectors are there, they hit outside, were the crowds were, but the security wasn’t.
There are reasons why I’m as nervous as a long-tailed cat in a roomful of rocking chairs when I pick up my bags at the airport, or when I’m waiting to go into an entertainment venue.
Also, one of these is about two feet away from me as I type this. Another is in my car, another in my wife’s car and a bunch more at home. They’re inexpensive, easy to use and have been documented to save lives. They’ll come in a lot more handy after this sort of thing than your defensive sidearm will.
I’m just tired of the Islamist apologists, mostly who are not even Muslim.
My prayers for the poor dead and injured and for their families.
Well there is a hashtag #ManchesterStrong now so that should take care of it……
When May said, it’s customary on these occasions to say the terrorists cannot win–
i was SO hoping she’d follow up with: “but they ARE effing winning! And we gotta start killing ’em off!”
but no.
They’ve got 3500 people under surveillance in the UK , I heard. So, they can’t watch all of ’em all the time.
How about: drive them out! Like Trump said? Put them to sea at Plymouth to the sound of Drake’s Drum!
And let’s see which nation gives them safe harbor.
Everyone will say “Never Again” and then go right back to denying there is even a problem.
You people apparently just need to come to grips with the new multicultural reality:
Not only “no”, but HELL NO!
LONDON — CBS News confirmed Tuesday that the man who blew himself up the previous night at an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester, England, was 23-year-old Salman Abedi, who was known to British authorities prior to the attack. Emphasis added.
And if they are citizens? Do you think the suspicion of terrorism is enough to banish a legal citizen? If it is what will happen when the definition of terrorism broadens or falls to the discretion of less honorable people? Our laws at these times may seem like inconvenient hindrances but they are what separates us from them.
Also I don’t think the terrorist are winning. ultimately these attacks while terrifying and brutal are not going to destroy us. If the London Blitz could not shake the British will will some crazed Mohamedians?
Thanks , I knew this was coming!
During the Blitz, Londoners knew the enemy and were permitted to name the enemy. They weren’t forced to repeat that the Germans weren’t their enemy. They weren’t forced to watch Nazis taking over their institutions, holding positions in their government, building Bundt halls in their midst. They weren’t falsely constantly reassured that the Nazis ‘could never win”, even as they buried the victims of the raids. It was a near run thing! They didn’t kid themselves that they knew at that time how it would turn out. Which is what their leaders and our leaders are doing now.
The terrorist seems to have deliberately targeted young girls. I think he was just getting even with the British for finally showing all that intolerance toward the sexual abuse of female British teenagers and children a few years ago.
No Brit flag Facebook backdrop?
Per Mark Steyn it takes about 12 people to keep one person under surveillance.
So it’s a jobs plan.
The Blitz lasted about 18 months. And the enemy was not in the gates.
And they paid the enemy back in spades…
Firebombing of Hamburg
Stop accepting refugees and reduce legal immigration. All this tough talk by politicians after these attacks sounds like the empty bluster of a pro wrestler.
Yuh. Instead of being lectured constantly that Naziism was an “ideology of peace”. Instead of their leaders’ first concern after a bombing raid being whether anyone with a German- sounding name might have their feelings hurt ? if anyone condemned the bombings. Instead of having a Nazi mayor counsel them not to resist, or it would only lead to more severe attacks.
I think the doughty Brits woulda gotten pretty demoralized, pretty fast, if they had been subjected to this kinda garbage during the Blitz.
This, I totally agree with. Laws are there to protect all of a country’s citizens – even the ones we suspect have the potential of doing horrible things. I don’t think those laws should be stretched to protect non-citizens, but citizens? No, they should not be ignored.
Exactly. And Trump is the only person out there saying this. That’s why he’s facing such a determined smear opposition here at home.
I have to laugh and laugh when I hear this crap about, he’ll just make them madder, like Londons Muslim mayor said!
How much worse could things get?
Opps. I spoke too soon
Manchester terror attack: How to change your Facebook profile picture to pay tribute to victims
I may be the only British citizen and resident to respond to this posting – in truth, I didn’t have the heart to read everyone’s comment.
Thank you to everyone who expressed sympathy for the dead, dying, wounded and their families. Thank you also for your outrage that such attacks continue to happen and that we (the countries of net immigration) seem to learn nothing. You won’t see any #venting from me or any union flag overlays on social media. I despise the terrorist(s) who massacred these innocent people and I do not care if they killed in the name of “principle”. The only message I want to hear from my Prime Minister is that whoever is responsible and still living will be found and their free lives are forfeit for their acts.
There will be people in the UK and US who will say that atrocities such as this should not take control of our lives or affect elections held on broader issues. They are quite wrong. It is not just inevitable that the body politic will be affected. It should be affected. The US and its brave President and the UK and its resolute PM must now show that the preservations of safety and security of their nations are not empty phrases. I will watch the media for the expression of similar sentiments – but I live in hope not expectation.
