Recommended by Ricochet Members Created with Sketch. Who Can Put an End to This Gaffe Travesty?

I’ve been waiting for someone to proclaim “enough is enough” on the Sean Spicer gaffe attack. I agree that it was a stupid thing to say and was definitely a foot-in-mouth moment, arguably his first and only one. The rule is supposed to be, you do not go into hiding and wait for the storm to pass, you get in front of the cameras, admit you said something stupid, take responsibility for your actions, and apologize. That’s how you do it.

Sean Spicer did all that, on every channel, in front of some of the most hostile anti-Trump MSM-DNC Agents out there.

But here we are, days later, and it is, of course still being milked by the DNC and their propaganda arm, the MSM. The most insulting part is the DNC pandering to the Jewish folks, trying to call it anti-Semitism, which it definitely was not.

Who can call the DNC out on this travesty? Certainly anyone in the Trump Administration complaining will also get the “anti-Semite” label slapped on them.

Enter Alan M. Dershowitz:

Sean Spicer made a serious mistake when he compared Bashar Al-Assad to Hitler, and to make matters worse, he got his facts wrong. He quickly and fully apologized. There was no hint of anti-Semitism in his historical mistake and his apology should have ended the matter. But his political enemies decided to exploit his mistake by pandering to Jews. In doing so, it is they who are exploiting the memory of the six million during the Passover Holiday.

The Democratic National Committee issued a rebuke with the headline “We will not stand for anti-Semitism.” Its content included the following: “Denying the atrocities committed by Adolf Hitler and the Nazi regime is a tried and true tactic used by Neo-Nazis and white supremacist groups that have become emboldened since Donald Trump first announced his campaign for president.” By placing Hitler and Trump in the same sentence, the DNC committed a mistake similar to that for which they justly criticized Spicer. Moreover, the DNC itself, is co-chaired by a man who for many years did “stand for anti-Semitism” — namely Keith Ellison who stood by the notorious anti-Semite Louis Farrakhan, while denying that he was aware of Farrakhan’s very public Jew-hatred. It is the epitome of Chutzpah for the DNC to falsely accuse Spicer of standing by anti-Semitism while it is they who are co-chaired by a man who committed that sin.

Nancy Pelosi, the House Minority leaders, falsely accused Spicer of “downplaying the horror of the Holocaust.” But by leveling that false accusation, Pelosi herself is exploiting the tragedy.

I highly recommend reading the rest this column.

The Democrats have nothing at all to say that is helpful or constructive to our country, so they have to jump on foolishness and pound it to death. They need a new WH Press Secretary. I like Sean Spicer, but they need better representation. If they aren’t harping on everybody is a Russian spy or in cahoots with them, it’s something stupid like this.

By the way, Hillary seems to find the time to trash Trump in speeches lately. What happened to the great work the Clinton Foundation was suppose to be doing – don’t they have things to do? She lost. A new haircut and Trump bashing is not helping her.

What is odious about the Left/Dems/MSM is their obvious intent on promulgating anti-Semitism/racism/homophobia/islamophobia/etc. not because they oppose the aforesaid(which I agree they do), but rather to accuse their political opponents of anti-semitism (in the Spicer example) for political gain …. not put an end to the anti-semitism.

It is in the Left’s political interest to create the idea that the isms/phobias are everywhere, and the political mouthpieces on the Left see it as their job to point out the isms/phobias(real or made up) whenever it gives the Left a political advantage.

So what you get is loud incessant accusations when any ism/phobia(again …. real or imagined) can be attached to a Republican/Conservative, and naval gazing silence when an obvious ism/phobia(real) can be attached to a Democrat/Liberal.

    JcT,

Yep, I stand by my characterization of the media. They are like a herd of blind lemmings searching for the cliff. I remembered a story that the Times just ran about Spicer’s suits & ties. I thought it was a joke until I realized the idiotic Times guy was absolutely serious. I did a search for it on the Times site. About 25 different stories all on Spicer’s gaff came up first. To say they are over covering the gaff is the understatement of the millennium.

Just for laughs check this out.

Sean Spicer Fixed His Suits. What About the Ties?

Yes, the Times is an absolutely unbiased source of the most important relevant news. No, they are not some near psychotic rag that sits like Pennywise the Clown in a sewer waiting to attack a passing Republican.

Alan Dershowitz had to defend Sean. What a looney tunes world we live in.

    Regards,

    Jim

I am huge fan of Alan Dershowitz.

    He is absolutely right.

This is an interesting kerfuffle. When President George H. W. Bush compared Saddam Hussein to Hitler, I thought it was a ridiculous overstatement. But then George W. did also, and it piqued my curiosity. Surely they wouldn’t both make such a statement if there weren’t some truth to it. The more I learned about Saddam Hussein, the more I realized that the World War II veteran Bush 41 was absolutely serious in his accusation. The comparison of Saddam Hussein to Hitler was correct in two ways: one, the meticulous obsessive record keeping about his victims and two, the nature of the saddism involved in the killings he, and then his sons, dreamed up. Everyone in the Middle East knew that there was something really wrong with Saddam Hussein. He wasn’t a normal dictator among the Middle East dictators. He was really Hitler-like evil.

I don’t know much about Assad, but if he is like Saddam Hussein, and that’s possible, he has two faces: one that he puts on to the civilized world, one much darker face that he puts on when he kills people.

The same group that insists our new president is Hitler condemns Spicer for saying Assad did something even Hitler did not?

They passed desperate to discredit Trump long ago, now they are just raving. Never try to make sense out of the ravings of the disturbed.

I agree this was not a big deal.

That said, I don’t like Spicer – just something about his voice, his mannerisms. They just rub me the wrong way. I know that’s superficial.

He has an impossible job anyway, trying to explain Trump’s statements and actions to the press. The press will always hate him.

I agree. He’s nice enough but probably not smart enough. That was a really dumb unforced error on that stage, though totally forgivable. I’m just a middle aged SAHM and I know better than to ever invoke the H word.

When is Spicer going to be taken out back and shot to put him out of his misery?

I agree this isn’t that big a deal and people should drop it because he misspoke, but it’s not the first time the entire nation has been discussing a blunder of his, instead of whatever the press briefing was supposed to be about. He’s got a hard job, but he’s having trouble doing it, more so than can be simply explained away by the media being mean and/or having to work for someone as unpredictable as Trump. When is Laura Ingraham (or whoever would do it now) going to get a phone call in the dugout to relieve this guy?

Before the Rodney King beating, our not-too-bright police chief Daryl Gates had to explain a few chokehold incidents on civilians that went bad. He said the severity of the injuries puzzled him, too, and possibly there were unknown medical factors that should be looked into. What he actually said was,

“Maybe Blacks don’t respond like normal people do”.

No tears for Daryl. He got pilloried, of course, and properly so. At that time three of my brothers were on the police force, and one called me from New York, incredulous that someone as dumb as Gates was left in charge of LAPD. Even the cops thought he was nuts.

Some Jews just shrug off the Spicer quotes. The ones I know don’t, but they don’t consider it in the same league as Daryl Gates’s. which was rather revealing of his true opinions about Blacks. Nobody thinks Spicer’s a Nazi, which makes those DNC comments doubly obnoxious. But it was stupid, not something that Jews had to be coddled into finding objectionable.

He apologized, fine. But if this level of stuff keeps happening, Trump would be foolish to keep him on.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with what Spicer said and I think it is accomplishing its purpose just fine.

Let the media and liberals make fools of themselves. They are becoming incredibly adept at it with all their practice.

4 months ago, Trump was Literally Hitler. This week, it is obscene to compare Assad to Hitler. They are idiots whose opinions should bear absolutely no weight on how we conduct our business.

Except you left out the answer to the follow up: “Hitler didn’t gas his own people.”

I’m not disagreeing with Dershowitz, this was merely a poor choice of words and not indicative of anything more sinister, but it’s still something he should back off from.

Good for Dershowitz. He often demonstrates fair-mindedness on matters such as this.

I’m no fan of Spicer, and to say that this was his first and only gaffe is, shall we say, generous in the extreme.

But it was clear that he was simply trying to say that Assad is a bad guy. If he had illustrated that point by saying, “Even Hitler refrained from using chemical weapons on the battlefield” – which of course is what he meant – there would have been little or no uproar. The stupid, ritualistic public shaming exercise was triggered by the style rather than the underlying substance of the remark. The idea that it was anti-Semitic is ridiculous and outrageous.

I, myself, had never really thought of the gas used for concentration camp exterminations as a chemical “weapon of mass destruction” (but of course it was). Therefore, I was sympathetic to Spicer’s flub. But nevertheless, it must be said that he is not distinguishing himself in the press secretary’s role.

I happen to believe that manufactured outrage does more harm than good to the people expressing it. So I’m delighted to see the DNC excrete such idiocies. Even my kids, who are teens, have enough common sense to roll their eyes at the incessant wailings of the people they derisively call “SJWs.” Give ’em enough rope and these folks will completely demolish their own credibility.

I was going to ask Joe P for another example besides the silly Inauguration Day crowd one, which happened his first day and doesn’t count, in my opinion, since he was quoting the President directly.

I agree! If we start demanding someone step down for one gaffe, there will be nobody left. Thank goodness nobody records every word I say!
