Sunday #Giraffewatch
Okay, ‘fess up — who else is on #Giraffewatch this weekend?
If you don’t know what that is, stop here. Do you value your time? Then don’t even start. You’ve been warned. Do not click on any of the links in this post.
But if you do: Why is this so compelling? Is it because we know so many other people are watching, too, and there’s a sense of belonging in doing something that everyone else is doing?
Is it because it’s just such a nice, sweet break from the nastiness of politics?
Is it because we’re genuinely fascinated by giraffe parturition?
Anyway, for those of you who are also waiting expectantly, I really think today could be the day. But I’ve been thinking that for a while now. What do you reckon?

I love giraffes. A friend of my daughter is involved with the Cincinnati Zoo, and she has posted some great pictures of baby giraffes from the zoo, pictures like this one:
and this one:
and this one:
And here is one of the giraffes I saw on a very much enjoyed “safari” at Disney World a year ago:
Had a wonderful giraffe steak a few years back. it was delicious.
I take it you’re on #giraffewatch big time, then …
The miracle so far is that the PIT has not been inundated with @troysenik jokes.
I would. I have to work today. If I go watch, I won’t be able to concentrate on my work.
I would love to watch.
I love giraffes, mooses, dolphins, whales, hummingbirds, capybara, and chipmunks. I do not know why I love theses creatures so much, but I do. All creatures great and small, the Lord God made them all. And he did a great job!
I honestly think that’s why so many people can’t stop watching. There’s just something so delightful and whimsical about this creature.
I’m tempted to make a prediction, but it’s risky to stick one’s neck out on such matters.
Well…
I caught the live shot of one being born about a year ago–I don’t remember where it was. It was really amazing!! Haven’t tuned in to this one . . . yet . . .
I don’t have twitter. Don’t they have a live feed somewhere?
I’ve tried, it’s a giraffe after all, and I was a birth worker. But I lose patience after about a minute. I decided to check in after I know the little one is earthside.
But if you’ve got ’em, post ’em here!
I try to feed them whenever I have some extra leaves.
For some real cognitive dissonance, check out the giraffes moving through the ocean fog at the San Francisco Zoo.
You bet!
Thanks! I think . . . [yawn]
I am groaning in sympathy with April at the thought of being pregnant for 15 months.
Still nothing. I’m glad I let myself fall asleep waiting, or I’d be really exhausted and crabby by now. As one of my fellow #giraffewatchers put it last night:
Update: She’s still pregnant. I think I can see contractions — that or the baby giraffe’s kicking. I think it’s going to be tonight. And I fear I’m going to miss it, after all the waiting.
