Rod Serling to Narrate Remainder of American Experiment

Are things getting weirder? Brexit was only a mild shock: polls are often wrong, at least when conservative ideas prevail. Trump’s victory was a bigger surprise but again, polls, the echo chamber of the punditocracy, etc. But then there was the Super Bowl. And the Academy Awards. (Note to Meryl Streep: at least the Super Bowl stuck the landing.)

You don’t have to be a football fan to see that the 2017 Super Bowl was great entertainment. It was no She Devil, but still … Lady Gaga’s halftime performance was fantastic, although I didn’t appreciate her divisive “one-nation-under-God” rhetoric.

Taken individually, each of these events is remarkable. Collectively, it’s as if John Wayne removed a thorn from God’s paw or something.

Things are getting weird. Would it surprise anyone at this point if Rod Serling were to narrate the American Experiment from here on out? Serling won nine Emmys. But so self-congratulatory is today’s Hollywood that I wouldn’t be surprised if the 2017 Oscars won for Outstanding Comedy. If you can watch this year’s Academy Award for Best Picture without laughing, well, then you have no heart.

In related news, Hillary Clinton continues to exist and feels “vindicated” by Trump’s first month in office. Imagine, then, how vindicated Trump must feel by the Clinton Global Initiative’s last month of existence.

Trump, meanwhile, continues to waste no time showing energy in the executive. His Education Secretary Betsy DeVos — confirmed by Vice President Mike Pence’s tie-breaking Senate vote, is already schooling Democrats on addition. If only Trump’s EPA could harness the renewable energy of the Democrats’ outrage.

As for those who must feel that rug has been swept from beneath their feet — Jeremy Corbyn, Barack Obama, Falcons fans and the producers of La La Land, I leave you with the immortal words of Steve Harvey after announcing the wrong winner at the 2015 Miss Universe competition: “Still a great night, though.”

Given the age of the Democratic leadership: Fossil fuel.

Imagine if California could capture all their crocodile tears.  Their water problems would disappear.

Hot off the keyboard and vintage, @daviddeeble!  It doesn’t get much better than this: “Making topical humor great again!”

Is that why Cali is flooding now with heavy rain? after such a long drought

Funny stuff. I thought I might share a FB post I made a couple days before the election using Rod Sterling and Twilight Zone. I really liked that show. Your picture is better than mine.

Election Prediction: At an opportune time all TVs will transition from election talking head coverage to a stark black&white set with lazarus Rod Serling holding his ever present lit cigarette. In his characteristic articulate cadence, punctuated by drags from his smoke, he’ll inform us that this 2016 Presidential Election has all been an episode of his Twilight Zone. He will then give his concise, insightful aftermath commentary. The cigarette will be crushed out as the camera zooms in and then theres’ll be a cut to a commercial selling t-shirts and merchandise of the winning candidate like post-super bowls. The next day the media and internet will be full of outrage and troubled disbelief… not that they were in a Twilight Zone episode or the election result… but that Rod Serling was smoking again on TV.

I would love to visit the Rod Serling museum in New York. Apparently he is smoking a cigarette in every single picture.

It’s not really renewable; it’s more like continuous:  the Dems have their own perpetual motion machine.

Yes things are getting really weird – John Wayne removing a thorn from God’s paw??? You are too funny! Please throw some sense of humor on a weekly basis – otherwise, TUMS and Rolaids stock will go thru the roof….along with wine sales and death by chocolate overdose…

    Excellent post!

I have only one TV show left that I watch regularly: The Blacklist. They are trying a spin-off for it called “Redemption”, which is terrible. I was watching the second episode of the spin-off when Famke Jansson – yeah the former movie star – walks in a house to help her friend find her kidnapped son. While they are talking about the son, the friend takes out a pack of smokes, takes out a cigarette, puts it in her mouth, lights it, inhales, and blows out the smoke. The camera never wavers.

Of course, I was expecting the camera, at any moment, to pull back to Famke and maybe we would see some smoke or something, but nope, that lady smoked on prime-time TV.

So now I am wondering, was NBC testing the waters here? Are we going to see the return of regular smoking?

After all, we grew up watching Lucy and Ricky, Fred and Ethyl, Rob and Laura, etc. all smoke in every episode. Heck, there’s probably an episode of Gilligan’s Island where a crate of smokes washes up on shore and a couple weeks after they smoke it all, we have a hilarious episode of them going through nicotine withdrawal; Ginger binge-eating, the Skipper repeatedly and incessantly slapping Gilligan over the head with his hat, Professor frantically trying to come up with a tobacco substitute made with palm fronds…

Tobacco might give cancer. But it’s still a key part of American history and the first cash crop. Ah, and a good cigar still have an inciting aroma.
