Changes in the Daily White House Briefing
With the demise in trust of national news organizations, I now go directly to primary sources. I’ve been watching the Daily White House briefing (at least, the initial briefing). For the first time, they skyped in some local news organizations. Imagine if your own local news personality was one of those asking questions. It connects the administration to — and allowing a direct dialogue with — local cities, bypassing the national news. Brilliant.
Here’s the first question, from a Rhode Island news show on sanctuary cities:
The second Skype question, this one from Cleveland on how economic revival:
And then they took a question from talk radio(!) on federal lands:

I caught this when he announced this policy in his first briefing and really liked it. Especially since it shows both the new administration’s understanding of new media and its desire to connect with all Americans. It is about time the white house had a little technical innovation like this. There is no reason not to when the technology is out there.

Yeah, the feed is live… looks like it is about to start.
National news is strongly dominated by East Coast news outlets presenting the perspective of only one slice of the country, bringing in reporters from other parts of the nation really seems like a sea change in how national news gets reported. Media wise it is quite brilliant as well, now instead of questions being asked solely from reporters residing in parts of the nation that detest Trump we get questions from those places that actually support him.

Now with this simple technical upgrade nationwide civic life is enhanced. Sean Spicer, also, is impressive: gift of gab, easy authority, knows his stuff. What a contrast to the last one . . . what was his name? That last one was forever looking down his nose, hiding his eyes, and lying through his teeth.
Just to let folks know, I sent @wiley a message yesterday morning asking for some feedback before promoting it to the Main Feed.
As I did hear back from him, I held off on promotion.
The White House could run an essay contest for high school students, perhaps on the role of the press in a free society. The winner could win an opportunity to sit in the Skype seat and ask a question.
