Two talented Nordic film makers — Hamy Remezan and Rungano Nyoni — have created a thought-provoking 12-minute film to immerse you in the world of a Muslim woman trying to escape domestic violence through the frustrating medium of a translator. I don’t want to spoil the ending, but this is an intense, harrowing short film that places you in the flip-side of a multicultural world.

I’m curious if you end up agreeing with the film makers’ opinions on their own film, but we’ll leave that one for a separate post. In the meantime, enjoy the show.

Wow. Chilling.
They need better translators, or to cross-check the translation somehow.
Must see film.
There, fixed it for you.
What do you mean about the opinion of the film makers about their own film?
Another day in Islamic paradise. Western liberal progressive feminists should rejoice.
Heh, indeed.
Betrayed by everyone around her including her son.
Indeed. Women in that culture are the lowest life form on the totem pole. It makes me sick that our feminists look the other way in order to protect their multiculturalist narrative. It’s disgusting.
Main feed!
Religion of peace. Soon blasting out its call for prayers five times a day in a neighborhood near you.
Apparently there is nothing we can do about the spread of this cult to our once glorious nation because, you know, freedom of religion. Unless of course you are a Christian baker.
Here’s an interview with the filmmakers.
God bless the film makers, they are doing His work.
(Without being smug, o you who have eyes to read.)
This is very painful to watch. So tell me again, why do we want more Muslim immigrants and refugees?
The FBI discovered that right after 9/11. They couldn’t trust the Arabic interpretation of some of their muslim translators. Another reason why if we are taking ANY refugees from Syria we should move the Christians to the head of the line.
Also, after 911 I thought we should offer full scholarships to anyone who studied Arabic, Farsi, Urdu etc who wasn’t a Muslim. I know, tough to do “religious test” etc, but we are at war, and we need as much correct intel as we can get. No point in training Nazi’s to translate German….
Throughout my adult life I have found that women are the worst abusers of other women. Men are blamed, but so often other women are complicit and are frequently responsible for the worst discrimination. One story to illustrate. My wife was a professor of Speech Pathology at the University of Washington. After my son had suffered a serious of hearing infections she called the office of a doctor at our HMO whose speciality was the placement of tubes in the ear drum, a pretty common procedure for dealing with fluid in the inner ear canals. The doctor’s nurse, screener would not allow my wife to get through to the doctor on the phone. When I called back a few minutes later, I was put through immediately.
This is, obviously, a small thing compared to the events of this film, but it is all part of the continuum in which women discriminate against other women, interpreting what they themselves think men want them to do. The interpreter in this film was acting in a manner as she was trained to act by other women, not by men. It is far too easy for women to become the worst facilitators of discrimination and abuse. (The son looked like he was heading in exactly the same direction as his father. He just needs a few more years to ripen.) The whole thing is horrifying, but it isn’t unique. It is part of the continuum.
This is so important. I want the refugees to be protected in their home country in general but if we take ANY refugees then it should be Christians who are really in long term trouble.
The officer was horrible. He was overcome with frustration at not being able to communicate with the victim, as if it were her fault. What a terrible situation that poor woman was forced into. Her only choice would be to leave both her husband and child and go…where? Or stay and be constantly beaten. Seeing things like this make me thank God for my own good fortune. However it sure doesn’t improve my attitude towards the Arab culture.
Not so fast there Buckwheat. I have an Army buddy who was with the 101st Airborne and fluent in Farsi. He got out and went on to get his PhD in Middle Eastern/Islamic (something like that) studies and used to advise our Special Ops guys about stuff. When the Obama regime came in they cut his contract and most of the guys like him, and put in their place “real” experts who were hand selected by CAIR, Moslem Brotherhood, and other pro-western Islamic front groups. Google it.
I disagree. I saw it as she was protecting her cult against the depraved apostate.
Unfortunately, her son was already too far gone into the women must submit mindset.
The interpreter knew that she would also have to explain her actions to the husband and/or local imam. This was a dramatization but I assume it was done accurately and it explains so much about the problem of allowing barbarians into our advanced civilizations.
I love that the officer said “We are all Danes.” Hilarious. Really: sickening that we are not able to police these evil warrens in our own lands.
I feel physically ill. I know these things happen. There is no one to help a woman in these straits. I’m heartbroken and angry.
Yes – precisely why, under existing policy and law, we have built in dis-incentives for people to pursue many types of work in the public sector. In particular, these rules have an impact on the type of work where your western birth and orientation would be deemed as lower qualifications.
This film provokes thought on many issues: women’s status in Islam, certainly; Islam vs the West, of course. But it also speaks more broadly the multiculturalism and multilingualism — at least as official policy.
Netflix is running a series Killer in the Family. One episode is about a Pakistani-British family. The wife was the daughter of an anglo woman and Pakistani man. She was raised Muslim and married a man from Pakistan. The husband immigrated to Britain but never learned English — in fact refused to. They had five children — a boy and four girls. The extended family was all assimilated except for the Pakistani husband. When the wife’s father died (the most senior male in the extended family) the non-English speaking husband sought to exert control over the family and have them all behave more fundamentally. The boy contracted terminal cancer and was hospitalized. The wife was an woman’s rights activist. The girls were normal British teens and pre-teen.
The father splashed petrol all over the house one night while everyone was sleeping and lit it afire. The wife and kids died in the conflagration. The husband was rescued by firefighters with burns over 60% of his body and died a few days later. The cancer-stricken son was left alive and alone, briefly.
Forensics traced what the husband had done. Many in the Muslim community in that place (Leeds) continue to believe it was an electrical fire.
All true, but my bigger point was that the Obama regime replaced patriotic subject matter experts with other advisors of dubious patriotism and expertise.
Me too. So sad.
This was a fascinating interview, Mama Toad. Since it’s written, not video, it’ a quick and informative read. Thanks.
Would have missed this, if I’d not been a Ricochet member. Gut wrenching and thought provoking OP and commentary from Ricochet members.
Now, what will we do, now that we’ve have this knowledge?
Expect to see the insanity Simon Templar’s comments report to be curtailed by the new team taking office on 1/20/16. There is untold damage BHO’s years have caused to the USA. Hope it can be repaired quickly.
