Is Political Talk Radio Dead? w/ Michael Graham

What’s the future of talk radio and how can Conservatives counter-balance biased media while attracting the next generation of voters? The loquacious and hilarious Michael Graham’s background was in stand-up comedy, he coordinated several Republican campaigns including Pat Buchanan’s 1992 Presidential run, and was a talk radio host with millions of listeners in New England on WTKK and Washington DC on WMAL. Graham has appeared on Real Time with Bill Maher The O’Reilly Factor, Hardball with Chris Matthews, Fox & Friends, and the Dr. Phil ShowMichael is now a writer at Washington Examiner and Creative Director at The Weekly Standard where he writes and hosts several podcasts.

I loved this video podcast – Michael is very smart and downright hilarious!  For those who haven’t seen Whiskey Politics interviews before, you’re in for a treat – Dave was born to do this.

I’m not sure if I had heard of Michael Graham before, but I didn’t want to pass up a Dave Sussman interview.  It was very good.  I particularly agree with Michael Graham’s assessment that a lot of talk radio has gone stale.  I still like Glenn Beck’s radio show because it is equal parts light-hearted fun and serious stuff, but most talk radio has just become dreary and (as Mr. Graham points out) endlessly partisan.

Dave, how many more interviews do you have from the Weekly Standard Cruise?

Thanks Randy. His point is valid, and also, we are getting so many options for alternative conservative voices now, why would I sit through 25 minutes of My Pillow and 877-Karz4Kids jingles to hear 35 minutes of repetitive content? I still listen to a couple of talk radio hosts (ie: Prager) but only on my phone (which I stream to my car), when I want, not when it’s broadcast. I blast through commercials and hear the good stuff. Stitcher, iTunes and GooglePlay allow any (including Ricochet’s podcasts) to be automatically downloaded. Talk radio cannot survive in it’s current economic formula (as Michael states, they spend $7 to make $1).

Michael Graham is truly funny. I used to listen to his show all the time when he was in Boston.

Not a Christmas goes by that I don’t think of one really funny Christmas week show he did in which he addressed his fellow men who had waited until that moment to buy a gift for their girlfriend or wife.

    Great interview. Thank you.
