Ivanka Summons Al Gore for Climate Change Chat
Donald Trump has said that climate change is a hoax. His Democrat daughter (and prominent member of his transition team) doesn’t agree:
Ivanka Trump is meeting Monday with climate change activist and former vice president Al Gore.
The President-elect’s daughter, who reportedly wants to make global warming one of her signature issues, will meet with Gore at Trump Tower in Manhattan, according to transition spokesman Jason Miller.
The former vice president will not be meeting with the president-elect today, said Miller, in a conference call with reporters on Monday morning.
Miller would not elaborate on the contents of the meeting between Ivanka Trump and Gore.
Ivanka has close ties to influential Democrats and she has supported causes traditionally more dear to the left than to conservatives. This includes pushing her father to support an expansive child care policy.
What do you think: Is Ivanka’s meeting with Gore harmless or does it spell trouble for conservative policy in the White House?
Published in Environment, Politics
I think it’s emblematic of the schizophrenic nature we can expect from this White House.
This could be just one more sign of an essential weakness in Trump’s conservative bona fides. The belief in anthropogenerative climate change (is that the correct term?) is bad enough. Inviting that absurd hack to discuss it is way beyond the pale. If Ivanka had a real interest in discussing the issue she could certainly find someone whose qualifications to discuss it have some real merit. Gore is just a puffed up hypocrit, and, for all her alleged intelligence, Ivanka demonstrates and incredible shallowness in selecting Gore as her informant. To say that I am unimpressed is to understate the case.
I’ve been told the Bushes and Clintons are dear friends beyond the spotlight. If their policy differences were not severe enough, those differences at least were significant.
On the other hand, people say Schwarzenneger wasn’t so bad for governor before his hippie wife poured poison in his ear.
Influences from friends and family are more or less powerful depending on the strength of one’s own convictions. How strong Trump’s devotions are, I don’t know. But I’m sure he has heard it all before from his daughter and the introduction of another political blowhard isn’t likely to shake him.
So put her in charge of all of Trump’s business interests, then put her in a blind trust or whatever the equivalent would be. Both problems solved.
Remember how Ivanka was going to run the business and Trump would put a wall between them.
#draintheswamp
Couldn’t be funnier….”drain the swamp”, indeed.
She should invite Pelosi over and the three of them could sit on a couch to do a PSA.
(No, Newt, I haven’t forgotten. Nor am I likely to.)
I’m sure she’s just consulting with Gore on eco-friendly hotel construction.
Or maybe Gore is hawking solar panels, and she agreed to meet with him just so he’d stop calling.
Ivanka runs with the beautiful people. Among the lovely ones, belief in cartoon versions of Catastrophic Anthropogenic Global Warming (CAGW) is part of the fabric of social membership. The social pressure to conform is enormous.
Hopefully, there are enough cogent skeptics around The Donald to prevent any serious harm. From a business-like bottom line perspective, the existing fantasy solutions (e.g., the Paris Agreement) impose great costs yet do little or nothing to change the warming trajectory if the “consensus” estimates of climate sensitivity are right (Spoiler alert: they’re not). Mandated drastic reductions in CO2 sufficient to make a difference (again, according to the models) are a guarantee of economic and humanitarian disaster.
I would love to be a fly on the wall for that meeting. I listened to Gore talk environment and climate to a bunch of us association and industry reps back in early ’92 and he seemed weirdly certain of things he did not really seem to understand. He is a very strange man.
Unwarranted. Ivanka is not part of the Administration and should meet with whomever she pleases.
She doesn’t seem to think so:

The same could be said of the vast majority of people shouting “The Science is settled!”
Maybe she’s going to help him release his 2nd chakra.
Has ‘he’ said so?
I was going to post that “I suspect it’s trapped under his 3rd chin.” But I realize that would be body-shaming and insensitive to those of us with extra girth, and so restrained myself. It would have been deplorable.
But I denounce myself, just in case.
Note:
All caps.EDs,
If you will remember I have been forwarding my special Trump Administration care package to #neverTrumpers. First, Dramamine for the motion sickness. Second, Pepto-bismal for the nausea. Finally, a large bottle (generic is my favorite brand) of buffered aspirin for the migraine headache.
I just broke open one of the care packages and I am administering the contents on myself.
AAAAAWWWWWGGGGGGG! BLEEECH!!!! MOAAAANNNN!!!I’m now putting my fingers in my ears and putting on a blindfold and going LA LA LA LA LA.
Now, what were you saying about the sweet lovely Ivanka? Excuse me I must smash my head against a wall for a few minutes.
TWWWAAAAAAAAAAAAACCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKK!!!Regards,
Jim
It spells trouble for common sense, science, and business. Of course the climate changes; it always has, it always will. To think that we can control the climate is delusional.
To invite a snake oil salesman like Algore to discuss policy is a disaster. All that clown has ever done is make a dishonest movie and soak us for millions, if not billions, of dollars in pursuit of his green agenda while he got rich. Mr. Gore needs to be tossed onto the scrap heap of history along with the Clintons. He has nothing to offer freedom loving Americans
What Marco Rubio said on global warming in the Florida debate (right before Trump crushed him in his home state), was about as accurate a statement as you could expect from a politician. He didn’t say it was a hoax (it’s not) and he said that the laws environmentalists want passed won’t improve the climate (they won’t).
I’m really curious what the Trump administration is going to be like. It could be really good or really not good. What Trump has said has very little bearing on what he will do. He believes in trade protectionism, and pretty much everything else is negotiable.
How do you get to know this one specific thing he believes is true and all else is in the air?
This is a meeting Ivanka is having with Al Gore, not her dad. I think she does have ambitions but I don’t think her dad and her will see eye to eye on any climate change initiatives if they will effect jobs and the economy in the United States. The Donald isn’t a dummy and although he loves his daughter I doubt she will have any influence if it takes him from his goals of being a successful president, his wife basically said so during their interview on 60 minutes. She will tell him her opinion but at the end of the day he does what he wants. This is Ivanka’s thing, not Donald’s and this is a distraction
Mate De,
Thank you so much for commenting. I think I’ll come in from the ledge now.
Regards,
Jim
This same Ivanka that managed to convince her father to adopt and promote Leftist Child Care Maternity Leave Policy as a part of his political platform back in September? That policy also affected jobs too and how businesses hire. And as quoted from Lockett Ivanka wants to make this her signature issue.
This is not a distraction, its a possible issue that might get worse.
Has that policy been passed or maybe it was a political move to try to bring in more of the female vote that Trump seemed to be hemmoraging after the Access Hollywood video was leaked? I do remember even our own Rob Long recommending that for political purposes to utilize the women in Trump’s life, because they are likable.
Will her policy recommendations be proposed? Maybe? Will they be passed with a Republican congress? Unlikely. But who knows.
MSNBC* is reporting that Gore did, in fact, meet with Trump. Gore called it ‘ a lengthy and very productive session.’
*I am at the car dealers, waiting for my car, which is being inspected. I can’t help what on TV.
I am shocked.
Agreed. With Myron Ebell running the EPA transition team the incoming administration seems to be sending a rather clear signal on the direction they will be going with regards to global warming initiatives.
Which Trump?
This was before that scandal occurred (the maternity leave policy was announced in first half of September and the Access Hollywood scandal occurred in October). The policy itself has obviously not been passed but your point was that Ivanka could not convince trump to do something that harms jobs. Obviously he can be convinced otherwise he would not have done that and especially not promote it as a part of his platform.
In the case of both maternity leave and the environment the Executive Branch has agencies that can affect, sometimes completely and sometimes somewhat, policy on those issues. This is a possible issue. Ivanka has influenced trump on issues and does want to have influence in the new administration. It is a liability.
If this has nothing to do with the incoming administration why did the transition team announce the meeting? Does Ivanka lack a PR department?
