I Was Spectacularly Wrong, I Hope I Continue To Be

I have to admit I really didn’t see this one coming. A huge congratualtions is due to the Rabble Alliance and all the Reluctant Trump supporters here at Ricochet. I do sincerely hope that the things all of his supporters see in him are what we will get over the next 4 years – the country needs it. I also take no small amount of joy at the anguish the Trump victory is imposing on liberals across the board.

Now the real work begins. I hope I’m wrong about how Trump will govern – my track record on this is admittedly spotty. As someone who opposed Trump from the begning I will support our new President when I think he’s doing right and I will continue to oppose him when he isn’t. No President deserves a blank check. Its up to conservatives to keep our new President focused on a conservative agenda and help set our country on the right track.

Jamie Lockett:Apparently he wants to appoint Palin to his cabinet. Ugh.

A voice in my head says you’re right, full stop!  Another voice says, “Yay! It annoys the Left!”  Another voice says, “What kind of a conservative is she really?  What would her policies be?  Is she still conservative after she revealed herself to be a nut?”

Concretevol:Agreed. For me the fun right now is watching he meltdown on the left. Good riddance to the Clinton crime family. For all the talk in the media of a civil war in the Republican party, the one the Dems are fixing to have is gonna be awesome

It was fun for a while now the “I can’t believe our country is so racist and misogynist”. Ugh.

There was a candlelight vigil in DC tonight for people who needed to mourn the Clinton loss.  Yep.  That happened.

And the protests!  It’s like, they’re terrified that Trump is Hitler and will dissolve all semblance of democracy, so they’re going to act first and protest to demand the candidate they voted for in a legal democratic election be summarily installed despite the election’s outcome.

Way to get out in front of that authoritarianism, people.  Sheesh.

Good post Jamie. I was certainly a NeverTrumper and believed he couldn’t win. I was spectacularly wrong but I wish him well and sincerely hope that he uses his considerable talents to advance life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness for every citizen of this great nation.  I hope that the upside of his volatility predominates.

Wiley: When Democrats contest the election, and they will, will NeverTrumpers be their advocates? Will Jay? Mona? Zubrin? Will ….? Will NeverTrump Republicans continue to fight against Trump at every opportunity?

I think you should look at their recent posts on The Corner and on Twitter etc. I see no sign of anything along those lines. There has been mostly congratulations and a wish for Trump’s success now that he has been elected.

I saw the 16 likes on the above comment and assumed Mona must have changed her tone. So I read her newest post congratulating his win, but it is full of dislike for Trump and repulsion even as she prays for him:

I pray for him and for the country, but fingers of fear still grip my heart. The glow of victory cannot obscure or perfume who the man is. Trump has demonstrated emotional unsteadiness, cruelty, and wild irresponsibility. He is most unhinged when his fragile ego is wounded. He is, in many ways, a spoiled child.

    ignorant bluster… appalled…his outsized egoradioactivereprehensible … open bigotryindecent and loutishfrightening, undemocratic… …. …

Nothing has changed with Mona. She has learned nothing from the election. She can’t let go of her hate. She will continue to demonstrate unsteadiness, irresponsibility, unhinged, ignorant, reprehensible, bigotry in her words towards our new president. In fact she just did.

She is exactly the type of elite the electorate was trying to rid the system of.

The ascribing of not one of those adjectives to Mona follows from the evidence you cite.

Perhaps it would if none of the adjectives she ascribed to Trump were truly ascribed.  Sadly, they were truly ascribed (which is not to say that non-derogatory adjectives might also be truly ascribed to the next President).

I’m not upset. I’m just pointing out that your attitude and manner may be counter productive to your desired outcomes.

For my part, I don’t want anyone to leave a thread in this way.  It makes me sad.  It shouldn’t happen at Ricochet.

So I am confused.  The OP states that you did not see this coming, that you accept the choice of the electorate, and that in the future you will hold president Trump to your standard of conduct.  Wiley accurately quotes Mona regarding her view of the president elect and you therefor disavow your OP.  Why?

That was not all Wiley said. I thought that was pretty clear.

OK – got that off my chest….

Trump single handedly emasculated the MSM – both on the left & right. Thats  a Reaganesque feat

    . Truly remarkable.
