FBI Reviewing New Evidence in Hillary Email Scandal

hillary_orange1Bad news for Hillary from the FBI:

The FBI on Friday dropped a bombshell on Hillary Clinton’s campaign less than two weeks before Election Day, announcing that it is reviewing new evidence in its investigation into her use of a private email server as secretary of state.

In a letter to several congressional committee chairmen, FBI Director James Comey wrote that, “In connection with an unrelated case, the FBI has learned of the existence of emails that appear to be pertinent to this investigation.”

Comey said he was briefed on those emails on Thursday and that he “agreed that the FBI should take appropriate investigative steps designed to allow investigators to review these emails to determine whether they contain classified information, as well as to assess their importance to our investigation.”

He did not specify where the additional emails came from.

Comey wrote that the FBI does not yet know if the new material is “significant” and did not provide a timeframe for investigating.

What’s the “unrelated case” and why do I suspect that it’s not totally unrelated?

Edit: We now see that it is “related.”

I’m holding out for the possibility that this is a brand new revelation, much more serious than the stuff WikiLeaks has released, where she really did something sinister. Of course, it could be a case where Comey is just reopening the investigation because he’s facing an internal mutiny, and there really wasn’t anything new and he’s just trying to save face. But maybe he really did find something that we haven’t heard about yet.

Hey, a guy can dream, can’t he?

Didn’t we hear a while back that the FBI was also investigating the Clinton Foundation?  Or was that just a rumor?   In any event, that would be the most likely candidate for an ‘unrelated investigation’.

It must be an extraordinary smoking gun to open this within two weeks of election day. Couldn’t happen to a nicer lady. Too little, too late. Most of the dead people and double voters have already cast their votes. Best case scenario, Clinton will be a lame duck president from the start and may even be forced to resign. Kaine may then become the modern day Andrew Johnson of presidents.

I don’t think this should cause anyone to have renewed faith in Comey’s integrity.  This is probably something that fell into his lap and is substantial enough that it can’t be dismissed.

    My (farfetched?) scenario:

    1. Comey’s original decision was considerably influenced by a desire to keep BHO out of the limelight, with knowledge that there were communications from him on the server.
    2. This information comes out anyway.  The WikiLeaks confirmation was only a couple of days ago.  The sky does not fall.
    3. Comey underestimated the damage to the Bureau and his own rep from taking a pass initially.
    4. Combining 2&3, Comey decides that the upside to reopening has distinct advantages, outweighing the downside.  Reopening makes him seem more deliberate, with the option of always going back to square one and a “nothing to see here.”

This should add another 5% to her lead over Trump. If this doesn’t make sense to you, you don’t get 2016. None of it makes sense.

Snatched from the jaws of victory. I just hope that Trump’s campaign advisers shot him with a tranq dart, or switched his iPhone with a spoofed twitter client that doesn’t work, or found a Trump impersonator to take his place for the week a la the movie Dave.

I think the accusations of being partisan really stung – that, and internal threats from FBI folks to go public so as to save their own reputations. Comey had to get ahead of it all, which he has now done, delaying any blowup until after the election.

At the very least, the FBI should recommend that Hillary should have no security clearance. Which might lead to a very interesting situation. I wonder if elections trump any “pulled” clearance determinations.

This is choreography.   It is a breakfire, setting a fire to contain a larger one.

My guess? People were more upset about the FBI being corrupt than the email contents. Trump was getting more traction with the corrupt FBI scaring people than the morass of inexplicable junk in the emails. One is very scary, the other is hard to follow.

This announcement takes the worst fire off the table.

Damage control by people very good at it.

Clinton hacks are already on MSM spinning it. Hard to imagine it will get the media coverage it deserves based on the way they have covered all the wiki leak emails released this month.  This should be huge but I remain pessimistic.

I am into wishful thinking TKC, so with a grain of salt I say that I think your analysis is too clever by half. “FBI reopens investigation” is too powerful to the average (uninformed) voter to compensate for “the system is rigged.” (IMHO)

Well, what are the odds that the Clinton Smear Machine will come up with something by tomorrow, to get Trump talking and distracting everyone? I agree – hide Trump in a castle with his mouth taped up.

I think the WORST thing they could to is to re-open the investigation only to re-decide that Hillary’s law-breaking isn’t actual law breaking like it would have been if you or I had done it – and then offer a few more immunity deals to vulnerable associates of the Clinton machine.

People can vote for Hillary if they think there is an honest FBI. They may balk if they vote for Hillary and know the FBI is in her pocket. This is pure window dressing. The illusion of honesty by a director who is in bed with the Clinton Foundation.

This also moves to emails back into “wait and see what the FBI finds, we cannot talk about that with a compliant media who will choke the story.

    It is damage control genius.

Ditto for me.  What else are they investigating, where they’d come across “pertinent” emails?  Now I’m really curious.

Possibly unrelated, but remember how Bill Clinton’s Monica Lewinsky scandal emerged from the Whitewater investigation.
