YouTube Blacklists Dennis Prager

Another Progressive machine decides to limit free speech by denying easy access to the educational videos of Prager University: YouTube.

I guess we shouldn’t be surprised. YouTube has decided that 21 Prager University videos need to be placed on “restricted mode,” a category meant for inappropriate and objectionable adult and sexual content. The videos all run only five minutes or less.

Dennis Prager filed a formal complain to try to stop this censorship (which YouTube insists is not censorship), but Prager finally felt he had no option but to go public.

The YouTube video series, known as Prager University, has enjoyed wide success and for good reason. In each video, a noted academic, media personality, or other well known person, addresses a particular issue in a practical and straightforward way, usually in five minutes or less.

There is nothing controversial about the videos, certainly nothing that requires an age rating for viewing so it’s very strange that YouTube would restrict them in any way.

YouTube is owned by Google, and PragerU states on its website that “in response to an official complaint we filed, Google specialists defended their restriction of our videos, and said, ‘We don’t censor anyone,’ although they do ‘take into consideration what the intent of the video is’ and ‘what the focus of the video is.’”

There is no excuse for Google and YouTube censoring and restricting any PragerU videos, which are produced “with the sole intent of educating people of all ages about America’s founding values,” the conservative nonprofit states on its website.

Here’s a List of the videos that YouTube has put on restricted mode:

Are The Police Racist?

Why Don’t Feminists Fight for Muslim Women?

Why Did America Fight the Korean War?

Who’s More Pro-Choice: Europe or America?

What ISIS Wants

Great minds must think alike Susan, as I was just about to post on this. There is a petition at Prager U regarding this YouTube blocking that people may wish to sign.

    That is mind-boggling.

When you sit down at a computer, it’s easy to forget that it is written and controlled by the same human beings who do everything else. It feels so impersonal.

I wouldn’t care if Google were forthright about its censorship. “We’re a business, and we control the content.”

I think I would care, Marci. Although you are correct: they should be able to serve anyone they wish.  Maybe it’s time for someone new to challenge YouTube. I’m sure a system is out there, but probably not as well known.

What specifically is restricted mode? I found some of these videos on YouTube by searching for the title. Does it mean that’s the only way you see it? If you already know the title you’re looking for?

Here is the link  for instructions on how to restrict a video on YouTube. I can’t imagine that anyone would want to have to go through it, but if you’re far Left enough, I guess you would. I wonder if the young person speaking on the video is making another statement, too.

Restricted mode is generally Google’s version of parental controls. I can tell you from unfortunate experience that it does not censor the filth and garbage that most parents are trying to protect their children from seeing.

Prager U videos are absolutely wonderful. Even when discussing something that I already know, the presentations are so well done. This is an obvious attempt at censorship: if not seeking outright to prevent access to the videos, then at the very least it is an attempt to stigmatize them. I suppose the alternative is to host them on a private server, but that defeats the intended purpose of spreading these far and wide.

When you’re taking flak, you know you’re over the target.

Prager U is so well-reasoned and presented, it makes the Left look bad, bad, bad. Can’t have that.

This is just the beginning of destruction for conservative media. The Left can’t tolerate dissenters.

From my blog post at the Freedom Pub today … which I planned to post at Ricochet until I saw that Susan did such a great job!

Conservatives have for years been pointing out the oppressive nature of the left’s utter domination of American culture. And it becomes more clear every day that the Gramscian march through the institutions of media, academia, and Hollywood has brought about what we can only hope is near-peak Cultural Marxism. … [I then included all the background that Susan shared, and some of the points she made.]

This is yet more proof that the left always – always – exercises its power brutally to suppress any “improper” speech and thoughts. They preach tolerance while attacking all who do not agree with them on every issue. They do not revere freedom of speech, but consider the Constitution an impediment to their aims. And this oppression will only accelerate if the left is validated, again, this November. YouTube, along with every other entity or individual with power in our culture, is doing all it can to ensure that happens. And it’s damned depressing.

I’ve seen a number of references here to the idea that conservativism is fast becoming America’s new counter-culture.  This certainly seems like an appropriate response for establishment industry succumbing to political pressure.  Perhaps one day it will make for good WikiLeaks reading, although no doubt those referenced in any communications will claim that Russian hackers altered everything since we know they altered at least one thing.

As a late, great Baltimore talk-show host one said: “eat dessert first, people.”

Really!? Prager U is being restricted on YouTube? That is a blatant restriction of free speech, there is nothing questionable about those videos, other than they are the reasonable dismantling of leftist ideas.

The left is throwing off any pretense that they can be balanced the mere presence of other ideas is dangerous to them. But they created the platform for their own demise. This genie can’t be put back in the bottle, I think the censorship of YouTube, Facebook and Twitter is revealing the lefts totalitarian tendencies. People are waking up to this

Susan Quinn: There is no excuse for Google and YouTube censoring and restricting any PragerU videos…

    No excuse is required.

YouTube is a privately owned Google/Alphabet company which can promote content or suppress it for absolutely any reason that it wishes or even none at all. They do not charge for hosting and have no contractual obligation to treat uploaded content in any other way then as their whim dictates.

If YouTube is discriminating against Prager content then it would be wise to look elsewhere for video hosting, perhaps even paid hosting. Then the carrier would actually have some obligation to treat the subscriber better.

YouTube can treat you like dirt if they wish and one can either put up with it or leave. Those are the options. I suggest leaving.

YouTube is a private entity and as such can restrict whatever they want.  The marketplace must correct.

Why would they acknowledge it? Did the President ever acknowledge, “if you like your health care plan you can keep it”?

Of course not. How would being honest help them in any way?

Deny, deny, deny. By the way, the President’s current approval rating? 54%.

Lie to the American people enough and many will simply accept it.
