DNC Day Three Wrap Up

Last night was the third night of the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia. We could tell you about the minor figures who strode the dais: Sigourney Weaver, Chris Murphy, Leon Panetta, Joe Biden, Governor Moonbeam, the latter proudly declared “Hillary Clinton does stuff!” (And yes, we just called Joe Biden a minor figure. Sorry, Joe. The truth hurts.) But there were three important speeches Wednesday night: Michael Bloomberg, Tim Kaine, and President Obama.

Bloomberg, who flirted with a run earlier this year before deciding against it, came out to say specifically that he’s not a Democrat, he disagrees with Democrats (his comments about how they stand in the way of educational reform got boos), and that he disagrees with Hillary Clinton, but that people should vote for her because Donald Trump would be worse.

Tim Kaine, Hillary Clinton’s pick for veep, had the coveted 10 pm slot. This was his big chance to introduce himself to America. He did so with … mixed success. Kaine fell into the trap that Senators often fall into, talking about what goes on in the Senate. No, Tim, please talk about the Senate Budget Committee. Nothing is sexier … except maybe the Aging Committee.

President Obama didn’t come out until almost 11 pm. (Like, c’mon, dude. Some of us have day jobs.) He commented on three things, in no particular order: his legacy, Donald Trump, and Hillary Clinton.

There were two lines that stuck out. One was about the Republican National Convention: “What we saw wasn’t Republican,” Obama said. “It wasn’t conservative.” The other line was that Hillary Clinton has made mistakes. “We all do…. That’s what happens when you try.” We could do a lot with that quote, but we’ll just let it stand.

But over all, Obama said just about everything. (He certainly was up there long enough…) But other than telling us how great he and Hillary Clinton are, he didn’t say much. We’re reminded of Rush Limbaugh’s compliment of the President: That Obama “can say nothing better than anyone I have ever heard say nothing.”

Did you view this with the impression that he was blackmailed by the Clintons all along?  I did and it’s so much more amusing to watch him do his thang with the fact that whatever successor he wanted isn’t running.

    What convention?

This is the most conventional congregated boredom since Zell Miller, the white governor of Georgia was the keynote speaker in 1992.

Bernie, who ran as you during the primaries?   That guy did a pretty good impression of someone with an idea.  And Sigourney Weaver, she was fabulous.  She was the highlight, along with the guy who showed up at 3:00 am to announce to an almost empty hall that the clean up crew would be coming through and everyone should give them space.

I heard Ice Cube was speaking tonight (rapping?).  Nothing better than the Cube man to put the whole thing on Ice.

Too funny, these Dems trashing Trump’s business record!  Anybody ever had a home  repair done, and not wanted to pay the contractor who did a terrible or incomplete job?  Well, ya can’t build lotsa huge hotels without plenty of those incidents.

How’s Prez Omega’s multi billion dollar community organizer company workin out?   (Never mind..) How’d Mrs Bill’s Whitewater venture work out?  Of his hundreds of companies, Trimp has had a few (legal, routine) bankruptcies.  As Prez Omega would say: that’s what happens when you try!

But the biggest laffriot:  Bloomberg!  He owns  a co which makes and builds: nothing!  It deals in the hot air of financial information, to help the very rich get very richer and the very powerful more powerful.    It has 192 offices “in locations around the world” as its website says (but doesn’t say where…) but only 19,000 employees–all of ’em engineers and “salesmen” for its “financial products” (there’s an oxymoron!).

And Uncle Joe: what’s wrong with “You’re fired!”  when someone isn’t doing his/her job?  That’s the way it is–except if you work for the federal government.  And THAT’S gotta change.

I’m completely baffled as to why anyone still calls Obama “The Great Orator”.  Even Salon said his time at the podium was a letdown.  He’s not convincing.  He’s not inspiring.  He’s not even entertaining.  So why?
