NRA-ILA Leadership Forum Livestream
The NRA is holding its annual meetings this weekend in Louisville, KY. Their popular Leadership Forum — which features politicians, pundits, and policy experts — begins at 12:30 pm ET, and it will be streamed live. You can watch it on the video link below. Confirmed speakers include:
- Wayne LaPierre, Executive Vice President of the NRA
- Chris Cox, Director of the NRA-ILA
- Donald Trump
- Senator Rand Paul
- Senator Mitch McConnell
- And … a whole bunch of others
It’s worth noting that the NRA is by no means a monolithic organization. The Institute for Legislative Action is the lobbying arm, a different group of people from those who mail you American Rifleman magazine or train the folks who teach you how to shoot.
It’s easy to talk about the National Rifle Association as “the gun lobby,” but the NRA (and especially the NRA-ILA) work for American gun owners. Gun manufacturers have their own group, the National Shooting Sports Federation, which puts on the SHOT Show (Shooting, Hunting, Outdoor Trade), which is the “must-attend” trade show for people in the industry.

I went to the Forum. It was great except one thing. It started 1-1\2 hours late. Why? Because they had to depend on TSA to screen everyone, and at the start time there were still thousands waiting outside in the rain.
Trump fans are nothing if not dedicated.
Kevin, thanks for the link.
If the NRA is not a monolithic organization, how do I keep my membership dollars away from supporting the Trump candidacy?
How do I explain to others that “the NRA I belong to isn’t the NRA that just endorsed Trump?”
How do I square the circle that as recently as 2012, Trump was publicly supporting the Obama Administration’s anti-gun policies?
(For the record, I have been an NRA member in the past, but am not currently active. I’ll likely re-join after November.)
Seriously, how did Grover Norquist manage to remain on the Board of Directors? I understand that my question may be unpopular, but that person I have problems with. In my, possibly poorly-informed opinion, that guy is the representative for the Muslim Brotherhood, on the board of the NRA.
I am not some Glenn Beck fan, anti Norquist. He just strikes me as somebody like CIA Director Brennan, a sympathizer with the Muslim Brotherhood.
I am just an average citizen that associates Grover Norquist with his own statements and advocacy, for entities like the Muslim Brotherhood, back during the Bush 43 administration. What happened during the NRA vote, to try to get this guy off the board?
I have considered joining the NRA, but I have zero trust for Grover Norquist. Why is it OK for this guy to be on the board?
Sorry to sort-of hijack the thread, but Norquist on the board is like having Brennan at CIA. This is not easily walked past. Just in appearance, this guy seems like just another person bought by Saudi oil money. What is the mood of the membership? Thanks, CJ.
Lots of reasons to go besides Trump. The Forum is always crowded. Trump was the reason for TSA. When I went 2 years ago in Indy, there wasn’t any screening, thus no lines.
It comes down to this, Trump promised not to let the NRA down. Hillary promised to appoint judges who will neutralize the 2nd Amendment. Can you trust Trump to keep his word? That I can’t answer.
This. I’ve been working on a post about this (but brain not doing word things good right now), but essentially, everything that Trump MIGHT do, Hillary already has as planks in her platform.
