Christie Agonistes
Chiming in from Paris, Claire Berlinski shared what seemed to be on every politico’s mind last night: What the heck happened to the swaggering, truth-telling Chris Christie after endorsing Trump?
He looks as if he’s aged ten years overnight. He looks broken and frightened. Look at his eyes, his skin. His voice is flat and emotionless. I get it if he’s feeling buyer’s remorse. In his shoes, I’d sure be thinking, “What on earth have I done?” But he’s a professional politician. He’s used to giving ten speeches a day that he doesn’t really mean and he’s not in the mood to give. If you’ve been in the public light for as long as he’s been, you’re an old pro: You know that the show must go on.
Following Super Tuesday coverage on Twitter, the emasculation of Gov. Christie received ten times the coverage of “Mr. Trump’s” victory speech, in which the reality-show celeb praised Planned Parenthood, mocked “so-called conservatives,” and threatened congressional lawmakers.
Your humble Editor-in-Chief got in on the coverage, with my dumb Photoshop garnering coverage on CNN and “Fox & Friends.”
Question: Did this endorsement end Christie’s lofty political ambitions and will the mocking reaction to it prevent other elected officials from climbing aboard the Trump Train?
Published in General
I did see today that a lot of local newspapers in New Jersey demanded his resignation. I don’t know trump is still leading and if he’s hitched his wagon to Trump’s then he should be happy after last nights result. Unless its personal, maybe his mom is sick or something else unrelated that he found out right before the speech
I just submitted a column to the editors about those 6 papers. It’s a fabrication. It was really just one paper…
Tommy, say it ain’t so. The media would exaggerate???! Never !
I wonder if Marshall Petain ever had that look on his face.
I know right!!!!
Literally lol’d at curb your enthusiasm. (is LLOL a thing?)
I think LOL and such is against Rico code of conduct.
You’re about to be put in the dog house, David!
He looks like Edmund standing behind the White Witch, after things had started turning bad.
Christie has traveled the road from a once-possible presidential candidate to being a bit more than a speed bump on Trump’s rather astounding (and horrifying) political ascendance.
It’s not exactly deer-in-the-headlights. It’s more of the questioning, slightly confused look you have when you find yourself living in a box under the overpass.
Was it just one editorial reprinted in six papers owned by a single media company?
Bingo.
Couldn’t have happened to a more deserving political opportunist.
I lost a lot of respect for Christie when he embraced Obama, and then lost all respect when he endorsed Drumpf. The slow dawn of realization reflected on his face as Drumpf drones on is priceless…
26 April 1945, when Petain was arrested for treason on re-entering France from Switzerland.
And you may ask yourself
Am I right?…Am I wrong?
And you may tell yourself
MY GOD!…WHAT HAVE I DONE?
If you watch the video clip very closely, you can see the exact moment when Christie’s soul leaves his body.
Inshallah.
I understand Christie made his decision without consulting the GOP establishment. I bet a little birdie has told him what the GOP is willing to do to stop Trump’s train. And Christie has now realized his fate.

I like some of the above comments, especially the ones referencing the Talking Heads.
I suspect he is crestfallen that Trump trumped him, but I expect his consolation prize to be becoming the VP, and I expect him to be an effective attack dog, and I am willing to predict a Trump/Christie landslide in November.
Whether Trump will be a good president is unknown at this point.
You know? They are small hands. And really really tiny fingers.
Political ambitions may not be ended given the incredibly gullible nature of the newly expanded American electorate. However, derision for endorsing a demagogue in a cynical fashion directly contrary to his campaign narrative is probably sinking in very fast. And since it was a Trump property, perhaps he saw a Trump goon in the audience that he was afraid of? Who knows? Maybe he had to listen to an entire Trump speech for the first time ever and it gave him indigestion.
It appears that Trump’s boys did a pretty thorough job of, uh, preparing comrade Chris for the event.
He will be Atty General. He’s avoiding being a big personality in the presence of a person whose ego is easily bruised and can’t allow the shadow of a lower order to fall on him.
The season of Celebrity Apprentice with Chris Christie is going to be epic.
Christie looks that way because it is probably the end of his political career. He will not be governor again and other offices (Senate?) may also be out of reach.
He resents the fact that conservatives vetoed his ascendancy in the GOP and would probably bar him even as a VP choice. He is frustrated that Trump got away with a far more lefty resume than Christie and stole Christie’s bluntness shtick. He has been on the road a lot and is clearly tired.
Endorsing Trump is a parting shot at the GOP and Rubio in particular, done in anger and disappointment. It does not appear that Trump has made any offers. In fact, The Master of the Deal does not give the impression he is deftly planning moves way ahead of his rivals so much as playing out the role he has carved out for himself as a resentment broker.
