Kudlow Decides Against CT Senate Run

Bad news for Connecticut:

Larry Kudlow had been eyeing a challenge to Sen. Richard Blumenthal for months, though he had not made any formal announcement. Throughout the past few months, Kudlow continued contributing and writing for CNBC, including interviewing several presidential candidates. Despite questions surrounding a possible candidate getting free airtime, the network asserted that Kudlow is not a CNBC employee (he stopped hosting a show in 2014).

On CNBC on Tuesday, Kudlow said he didn’t want to give up his television and radio gigs in order to run for office.

“Judy and I looked at this thing, exploring every angle, really for about seven months,” Kudlow said. “… At the end of the day, we decided against it, that the best course for me was to do exactly what I’m doing, which I love. That was the bottom, bottom line.”

…But good news for fans of the Money and Politics podcast.

With fans like the first two commentators here, looks like he made the correct decision. I suspect that he analyzed his chances with severe scrutiny and decided he couldn’t win. For my money, that’s a real shame.

Dammit Larry. He might not have won but he’d have been a hell of a good voice on the trail for why conservative policies are better. And who says he wouldn’t have won. Never know until you really run. What does early polling really mean? I doubt CT will come up with a better candidate. And I know his voice is already in the media but no one is watching CNBC.

I’m with cdor. Why the first two comments so negative on Kudlow?

He’s got a good attitude and plenty of knowledge about policy. More than almost all politicians probably. And Blumenthal sucks.

I think he’d have needed to have some breaks go his way, but that’s far from impossible.

Regardless Blumenthal is an embarrassment as a Senator just as he was as an Attorney General: Petty, vindictive, and grossly ignorant or unashamedly unrestrained in the law.

Think of how different your campaign would be – and how much fun it would be to tell voters the unvarnished truth.

Linda McMahon is ready to spend whatever it takes to crush any competent Republican primary opponents for the honor of taking a dive in the general election.

As does Murphy. I was hoping Larry would jump in.

I’m not a fan. I find him obnoxious and opportunistic. If he was the most conservative candidate running, I’d say go for it, but I wouldn’t pretend to be enthusiastic.

You mean conservative policies like “make America great” and “beat the hell out of ISIS?” His ridiculous support of trump completely disqualifies him from being taken seriously as far as I’m concerned. And if “knowledge of money” means tenure at bear Stearns followed by golden parachute -and maybe it doesn’t – I’m not terribly worried about losing his valuable insight in Washington.

Perhaps Kanye West might be interested. Donald Trump or Mark Zuckerberg might be inclined to bankroll him. That’s how it works, right?

I like Larry, but he would lose. He is running in a blue state. He would immediately be painted as a privileged White guy, fatcat Wall Street banker who wants to make the rich richer and the poor poorer.

Let’s see, Linda McMahon lost twice. Maybe she could get Sgt. Slaughter to run. Tough on Iran, for sure.

Any conservative hedge fund guys in Greenwich? Someone like Bobby Axelrod, with no pending indictments?
