Manchester Debriefing

“No plan survives contact with reality” is usually meant as a warning but — every so often — things go wildly better than one has any right to expect. Such was the case at the pre-party meet-up for the NR/Ricochet event in Manchester last Saturday, where the tables we selected ended up being directly in the line of sight of MSNBC’s cameras. With a little maneuvering, we got my laptop into the ideal position:

Good times were had by all, as we saw all the friends we’d never met in person, hung out with the GLoP Culture cast and crew, and rubbed shoulders with Ben Carson and a few other political celebrities. Many thanks to everyone who worked on and attended the main event, including Rob, Blue Yeti, Jack Fowler, Jim Geraghty, and Charles Cooke. Do check-out member kelsurprise’s post, which has a fuller account of the day and was the original source of the photobombing screenshot.

I emailed this link to the sister in KC who took the screen grab for me and congratulated her on catching the logo in the foreground.   She didn’t realize she’d done such a capital PR job either.

So she sent me another shot with more prominent product placement:

I think we should have a “meetup” version of the Ricochet logo, which includes the pint glass in the picture.

Brilliant! Wish I could have been there. If only the website address were visible…

Now I understand why the producer asked me to sit down at one point. The table looks much closer to the hosts on tv than it was in the restaurant.

You’re right, now that I think about it.   Felt like we were much farther behind them than that pic makes it appear.

No wonder they got annoyed, then, when we all stood for our first false exit, then lingered around the table awhile, instead.   It must have just been a solid wall of headless coats filling the screen, behind them.

Yes, a big thank you to the Ricochet and National Review folks who arranged the event and made it so memorable. Meeting old friends from previous meet-ups, making new ones, and generally having a stimulating time in the company of fellow R> and/or NR enthusiasts … it’s all good. See you at the next one.

That was the perfect place for your laptop, Tom.

…and it was good to meet everyone.

Most of MSNBC’s audience consists of conservatives watching for schadenfreude and/or mockery purposes.
