Dividing Up the Also-Rans
Assuming a political miracle doesn’t happen, and we have just three Republicans running for president by this time next month, who will the other candidates support as they bow-out of the race? My predictions:
- Carly Fiorina endorses either Sen. Rubio or Sen. Cruz as she exits. Probably Rubio.
- Ben Carson endorses Rubio. I think Carson’s campaign is stinging from how Cruz had more success with evangelicals in Iowa, cutting off all hope of an endorsement.
- Jeb Bush drops out without endorsing anyone.
- Gov. Christie endorses Trump.
- Huckabee endorses Trump in exchange for being named the officiant at the wedding chapel at one of Trump’s casinos.
- Gov. Kasich endorses Rubio, but no one notices.
- Santorum endorses Cruz. Santorum’s sweater vest, however, endorses Rubio’s Cuban heels.
- Rand Paul endorses Cruz.
- Gilmore turns his voter lose to follow his conscience.
Your thoughts?

The word was in December that Santorum hated Cruz. Why does everyone think he’ll endorse Cruz now? I doubt Paul will endorse anyone, he’ll keep plugging away till he runs out of money and do the same next cycle. Kasich will not endorse, he is hopeful of the vice presidency. Huckabee seems undecided, both Trump and Rubio mentioned him in their speeches last night. I don’t know about Bush he seems to personally like the other candidates, but his machine is in full kneecap mode. It might be hard for him to mend fences even if he wanted to play kingmaker. He might stay in long enough to amass the number of delegates to be a relevant endorsement, but I doubt it.
Trump’s populism strikes a similar note which they relate to.
It may not have been an official endorsement but when the pair attended Trump’s debate counter-programming in that fashion they came close.
As mentioned above this may be true of Huckabee. For Santorum the attendance at the Trump rally was just an opportunity to have screen time — I don’t think Santorum really sees Donald as his kind of guy.
Santorum won’t endorse Cruz. He and Huckabee hate that Cruz stole their playbook and probably just hate Cruz.
Paul doesn’t endorse and he’s got to start looking out for his senate race. He’s gone in 7 days.
Bush won’t endorse.
I haven’t heard of possible names because these are all just rumors. I do know that there may be another rumor that O’Malley is trying to convince Huckabee to perform shirtless like the Red Hot Chili Peppers and this may kill the whole rumored deal.
Great. Now I have an image of Huckabee wearing nothing but a strategically placed sock.
Gilmore has a voter?
I’d like to apologize on behalf of myself.
…. and just like that, Rand Paul is out.
Oh well. I still support Paul Rand.
Atleast I made one prediction this cycle that came true.
