The historian Robert Conquest died at 98 this past July. Earlier this week, the Hoover Institution held a day-long conference in Bob’s honor — and aired this brief video tribute.

When we lose a truly great mind and leader it hurts so very much. Where and when will we see the likes of this man again? Only by faith in a just Gd can I be sure that someone will come along to fill his shoes. May it be soon.

Wonderful video. I cannot help feeling envious of those that knew Mr. Conquest on a personal level. Perhaps Mr. Conquest would forgive me if I say that Bob and I spent many hours together when I read The Great Terror, Harvest of Sorrow, and Kolyma the Arctic Death Camps. Those three books were far better than any semester spent in a classroom.
