Promoted from the Ricochet Member Feed by Editors Created with Sketch. Flyover 47 – Reductio ad Meyerum

The name is misleading, as Tom Meyer generally constitutes an elevation for Flyover Country. Today, we discuss recent shootings, the Obama presidency, and foreign affairs. Tom also takes some time to dwell on his true passion: bad movies.

Opening theme includes music from Ronald Jenkees. Closing music inspired by Ricochet’s PIT10 and Member Cat III in particular. Apologies to Garrett Hobart for not putting the avatar to the name. His excellent post is here. The Sam Harris article Tom referenced can be found here.

Or not. Good grief. Hang tight for technical issues that are clearly over my head.

    Annus Mirabilis

    Sexual intercourse began
    In nineteen sixty-three
(which was rather late for me) –
Between the end of the “Chatterley” ban
    And the Beatles’ first LP.

Up to then there’d only been
    A sort of bargaining,
    A wrangle for the ring,
A shame that started at sixteen
    And spread to everything.

Then all at once the quarrel sank:
    Everyone felt the same,
    And every life became
A brilliant breaking of the bank,
    A quite unlosable game.

So life was never better than
    In nineteen sixty-three
(Though just too late for me) –
Between the end of the “Chatterley” ban
    And the Beatles’ first LP.

    – Philip Larkin (1922-1985)

Ryan asks if there are examples of actors using “white face”. I’ve heard it wasn’t unheard of in Asian cinema. I’m not sure if they even used makeup/prosthetics. Something gives me the impression that SJWs would never get enraged by that.

On the subject of James Spader and kinky sex, Crash (the Cronenberg film, not the Oscar-winner) is freaking brilliant. Also, spoiler warnings next time. I hadn’t heard of the necrophilia movie, but it sounds up my alley.

Thanks for the shout out. The metal version has its charm, but I prefer those from the games.

This acapella version is cool too:

It’s not “Bloody Tears”, but this is one of my favorite all-time Castlevania tracks:

Oh, the melancholy. Oh, the triumph. That game’s whole soundtrack is the tops.

well, even though it has stuck with me in memory for the sheer ridiculousness of the plot, I hadn’t let it keep me up at night. Though next time I refer to the movie, I will use the title! :)

Thanks for the links Cat. The acapella guy was especially cool. I have played most of the handheld Castlevania games inspired by SotN, but not the game itself. Glad you clued me on Bloody Tears.

I probably can’t talk you out of it, as I doubt I could have talked my past self out of it. However, I’m fairly confident that you will regret the experience.

Read what I said again, Tom. I am not suggesting anyone, especially me, re-watch the movie. Once was enough for me. (What year were you born? I might have watched it before then.) I just want Sal to write a review of what makes it so great.
