BURLINGTON, VT — Delivering a speech on income inequality yesterday, presidential candidate Bernie Sanders (Workers Party, Vermont) called on US billionaires to self-deport. “We’re not going to round them up” said Sanders. “The answer is self-deportation, which is people deciding they can do better by going elsewhere due to a draconian tax code.”

Sanders’ presidential rival Hillary Clinton sharply criticized the proposal, calling self-deportation “unworkable.” Ms. Clinton went on to ridicule the notion that the authorities are going to “round up the 537 billionaires living in America’s shadows and put them in electric cars and private planes bound for a friendlier tax environment. Where are these people expected to go?” asked Ms. Clinton rhetorically, “Switzerland?” Ms. Clinton then painted a chaotic refugee crisis in which undocumented billionaires and their families are forced to traverse the uncharted private airfields and ski resorts of Zurich, Vail, and St. Tropez.

Clinton, who has struggled to reconcile her hardline stance against billionaires with campaign efforts to woo billionaires, said she wants to find a way to give permanent status to wealthy young adults who earned their fortune through no fault of their own. “Those kids who earned their billions on Wall Street or Facebook I think should have a pathway to remain permanently in the US.”

Senator Sanders doubled-down on his comments by stating that anything less than all-out deportation would amount to “amnesty on the installment plan.”

America’s working poor were not available for comment.

It’s like trying to reason with a three-year-old.

If I had the money, I’d self-deport my entire family to some scenic mountain canton (just a modest chalet will do) in a heartbeat.

I have no problem with Bern’s proposal. I just have a problem with lack of funds.

Getting rid of rich people would help the wealth gap, but then who is going to pay my kids’ college tuition?

We need to build a wall of regulation and have Them pay for it.

Jimmy Carter – Not sure how I missed that aspect: will save for later and thanks! BrentB67 – You’re right: Vail would be a refugee camp where their long, tortuous journey begins.

I am not a billionaire, yet, but will sacrifice if need be and self deport from Dallas to Vail from the 4th of July to Labor Day each year. Please do not weep for me. Somebody has to soak up the cool mountain air.

Self-deportation is not enough. They must be frog-marched out of the country in handcuffs.

Since Colorado legalized marijuana, Vail so high that it’s technically no longer under U.S. jurisdiction.

Right, but we need to preemptively deport people who may become millionaires. Sorry.

That’s alright by me as long as those no-good rich folk leave their wealth behind. I wouldn’t mind getting naked and rolling around in the tall stacks of money that’ll, no doubt, be left in their swimming pools.

As I recall, wealth inequality was supposed to be the centerpiece issue of Bernie Sanders’ campaign. What happened?

Mark Zuckerberg has just announced his decision to move to Switzerland. This may explain FB’s spectacular performance on NASDAQ today.

Now, if only John Walker could explain how I could afford to gain Swiss citizenship…

I don’t know if you’d like it, Brent. Colorado is not as gun-friendly as they were a few years ago. Wyoming may be more to your liking.

I don’t think that’s really what Bernie means. His point is that most billionaires would probably still prefer to stay in the US even under more severe tax conditions… right? (just checking, I’m never 100% sure about anything Sanders-related).

He should be careful what he wishes for, though – if an exodus of American billionaires suddenly looked possible, I’m sure there are plenty of countries around the world looking to offer them a sweet deal.

The Senator from Cloud-cuckoo-land surely could extend his death embrace to the centimillionaires, to include the soon-to-be president from Cloud-cuckoo-land & the acting diplomat of that exalted jurisdiction…

Then the Dems could have a battle royale. Old, weak, & filthy rich, they’d make quite a spectacle. The self-loathing of the principled lefty would guarantee a dance of phantoms, or, being Americans, zombies invading & ruining your country. No one ever told you that the zombie apocalypse starts with Sen. Sanders–that’s media bias for you…
