Jeb Finally Takes on Trump

In case you’ve forgotten, Jeb Bush is still in the presidential race. When he wasn’t raising millions, the former governor has spent most of 2015 alienating the base and shoving size-12 cordovans into his piehole. Now that he finds himself in single digits far behind a former reality show star and a retired neurosurgeon, Jeb is fighting back.

This ad presents the obvious, but seemingly devastating case that Donald Trump is no conservative. He’s for higher taxes, he’s a close friend of Hillary, he’s been aggressively pro-choice, and spent much of his life as a Democrat. The ad doesn’t even get into Trump’s support of the assault weapons ban, expansive use of eminent domain, crony socialism, and myriad other red cards that would boot any other Republican from the playing field.

The tone of the ad is perfect until about 1:12 when the silly Jeb! logo appears. The Bush team should have put that in fine print since Jeb represents everything the GOP base is revolting against. For many, the anti-Trump message will be forgotten as soon as viewers think, Ugh, Jeb! I hate that guy!

Nice try by the Bush campaign, but I’m afraid the notorious RINO traitor cucksultant Rick Wilson is right on the money:

I’m flabbergasted that we are still talking about Trump and Bush.  Heh heh.  Trump and Bush.  It’s a pretend-swanky clothing store at the mall.  “Brah, where’d you get those dope skinny jeans?”  “Trump & Bush, brah!”

He may be in single digits behind Trump and Carson, but he still leads every other elected politician in the race. And since the GOP has exclusively nominated previous officeholders for the last 50 years, that effectively makes Jeb the frontrunner among the realistic candidates.

Which is why I’ll be happy when the silly season is over. I am convinced that, in a fight only among previous officeholders, Jeb Bush will quickly find his popularity sinking. But he is now being artificially boosted by the lack of attention being paid to anyone but Trump and Carson.

Ironically, the I-hate-Jeb movement is probably helping him more than hurting him in the polls.

Jon, I know it’s snark but maybe calling Rick “notorious RINO traitor cucksultant” here and on Twitter isn’t the best advertisement for “the most civil conversation on the web”.

Although Rick isn’t exactly covering himself in glory in the clip either.

Bush’s softness on immigration and border security will prove an insurmountable barrier to his winning the nomination.

I first used that “eat a live baby on camera” line on Ricochet about 3 years ago regarding Obama.  It was on the main feed too.   I think my creative genius(self-described) was stolen and applied to Trump supporters.

Mr Wilson, if you read this please tell me if you borrowed that line from Ricochet.   I’d give you a bunch more zingers for Trump but I’m afraid to help out your current employer so we can wait til he’s out.

The Donald is The Hulk. Attacking him only makes him angry. In particular, for most Trump supporters media and political class assaults on Trump only make them want to instinctively defend him.  If the media and the GOPe would stop attacking Trump a lot of his supporters would wake up and go away.

The best way to end the Trump boom is for Jeb! to drop out of the race.

I think it’s clear I was being sarcastic, much like people calling Rob a “RINO squish” all the time. If it’s any consolation, I cleared the slur with Mr. Wilson and even got him to tweet it to his many followers. All in good fun.

Is Donald Trump part of the ‘ruling class’?  I realize he hasn’t been an elected politician but does his money and resultant influence qualify him?

Seems to me if the answer is ‘no’, then attack ads don’t count for much.

I do think ads like this could turn some people away from Trump, so I am glad that they are being run.  I fail to see (from the ad or elsewhere) what makes Jeb! the alternative.  So to Jeb, I say Thanks!

Oh good.  I was feeling like somehow the place was less civil because I would never call someone a cucksultant, let alone a heterosexual male.  I might pry open their eyes to have them watch their bunny get stuffed in a sausage grinder but that’s a totally different problem and it’s being addressed with the CoC memo I’m sure..

Looks like a very good ad to me.  But why do you say “finally takes on Trump.”  No one else has and we’re many months away from any significant voting.  If anything it’s too early.

I have been dying for someone to take Trump on over that line about how socialized medicine “works incredibly well.”  Anyone who has argued Trump on here with me probably is sick of me talking about it, but it really matters.

So though it’s beyond the scope of the ad to address it in the way I’d like this makes me cheer, while really wishing it were someone other than Jeb I was cheering.  Ted Cruz might be being more politically savvy, but at least Jeb is showing, well, fight.

(I admit to a tiny touch of sarcasm in that.)

On substance… I hadn’t heard the Iowa quote.  Ouch.  On partial-birth abortion, it’s an old quote and I’d like to take him at his word that he’s changed position on that one — though I’d rather not stake human lives on it.  The Hillary quotes are totally fair game and speak for themselves.   I certainly agree the worst part is the Jeb! logo.
