From commentator and economist Amity Shlaes, author of Coolidge, a magnificent biography of Ricochet’s presiding spirit:

I’m on chapter ten of her book right now. Coolidge is languishing as Harding’s Veep.

The best thing about the Daily Shot: If I didn’t already know, I’d have never guessed it was written by Fred Cole. I don’t think it’s controversial to say that Fred’s opinions on on the fringe around here, but he’s turned out to be really good at writing from a more mainstream (for Ricochet) viewpoint.

Fred just likes to stir the pot. It’s good to have someone who will take contrarian positions so we don’t become hidebound. Sometimes the pot needs stirring.

Fred Cole:What can I say?I know the community here.

Meeting Fred Cole is a wonderful experience, and I encourage fellow Ricochetti to attend a Meetup if at all possible. Fred has driven incredible distances to come to some of these Meetups. This shows dedication, enthusiasm, and (if he’s like me) a desire to avoid flying if at all possible.

The Daily Shot is a shot in the intellect, as well as the funny bone . . .

Daily Shot is best read with a full cup of coffee, and you can read it all before the coffee takes full effect. A true winner.

The Ricochet Store should sell its own brand of coffee: good stuff, packaged with Ricochet logo and flashing tribal markers. High prices would be charged to the general public, with a nice discount given to members. Naturally, the Breakfast Blend-equivalent should be called The Daily Shot.

Should Fred Cole’s picture be on the package? We could have long, detailed, repeated discussions of the question.

    Stad, Re comment #8,

You sir need to turn in your private pilot’s license….. Is there some crazy flying story we need to have over a few beers away from the ears of the non pilot community?

As for Fred’s Daily Shot, I do really enjoy it. However Amity’s inbox must be a real bin of dreck if the DS is her day’s highlight

I read the Daily Shot and enjoy it. Keep them coming, Fred.

I would hate to have a written deliverable product with a daily deadline. I tip my had to Fred.

Coolidge was a fantastic read. That its author compliments Ricochet is like an extra slice of bacon on my bacon plate this morning.

Fred does an excellent job with the Daily Shot.

As for Coolidge, I’m past Harding’s death.

I’ve been to Plymouth Notch, Vermont. When I was a boy, my family would vacation for a week or so in the summer near Rutland. My dad had a friend who had a chalet a mile from the base of Killington. It was empty for most of the summer so he’d give dad the keys. Plymouth Notch is west of Rutland.

I’ve seen the room where Coolidge assumed the presidency. His father was a notary and administered the oath by gaslight. It was an extraordinary coincidence that Coolidge was visiting his father at that moment.
