The Superiority of the Athletic Mind

Earlier this week, the University of Michigan canceled a showing of American Sniper, arguing that the film advanced “negative and misleading stereotypes.” How did Michigan’s new football coach, Jim Harbaugh, respond? See below.

P.S. Since this tweet went out, the university has reversed itself, deciding to permit a showing of American Sniper after all.

    Peter,

Just amazing! The Rolling Stone fiasco advanced “negative and misleading stereotypes”. American Sniper was unique in that it didn’t advance negative and misleading stereotypes. This is something that the left can not abide.

Talk about the Eloi from H.G. Welles ‘Time Machine’.  The infantilization of the American College Student has reached a zenith. Maybe it’s time to come back from the edge of the precipice.

    Regards,

    Jim

Just off the phone with my father who is crestfallen at Michigan’s fascist decision about our favorite movie. As my dad put it, “We have so many hopes for Mark Schlissel because he’s shown such great support of the NCAA programs, but I think our boy Harbaugh will win this philosophical battle and still keep his job.”

    :))

Harbaugh just made a looooot of enemies in Ann Arbor, though. He’d better watch his back.

I think we have a lot more American patriots than we do displaced muslim students. It’s time we made our voices heard instead of letting them have control of the megaphone. Harbaugh has the football team behind his back.

Wait until he takes one of the greatest programs in NCAA history and restores it to its former glory. You have no idea how important the success of the football and basketball programs are at this school of the bright and brainy and intellectually gifted.

Ever watched a game at The Big House?

I still gasp when I walk up the ramp for my initial view of the field. It is probably what many would consider a religious experience, seconded only by my last trip to the House That Ruth Built.

Great tweet. The perfect way to handle it.

Maybe Meyer could give him one of our three All-America quarterbacks as a reward or something.

D&D only counts if you took up your DM’s challenge to compose an original song, and sing it while doing strenuous exercise, in order to gain the blessing of the Celtic goddess Brigid.

And knowing that makes me a hopeless nerd, doesn’t it.

Never been to the Big House, but I’m very familiar with the power of top-tier football. I’m an Auburn fan. Jordan-Hare is pretty big itself. We have some special traditions ourselves :)

    Auburn-War-Eagle-Flight[1]

BTW, Harbaugh really has the two in-state coaches in a froth with his football camp here at Prattville High School (And in the town that I live in!). Saban especially has been making lots of grumbles about it.

Except that U Michigan has shown that it does not deserve football glory, hasn’t it?

Having grown up a Notre Dame fan, I am supposed to hate the Wolverines.  But now I find myself not hating them so much.  I like seeing people stand up to the Leftists.  Hey McConnell, maybe Harbaugh should be the Senate Leader?

Smart coach.  He knows his fan base doesn’t agree with the school administration, and he let it be known.  It keeps the money flowing.

In a sense, he bailed the administration out after their stupid move.  Really, who would donate money to a school that bans American Sniper.
