Senik – The Speechinator! (Flyover 31)

This week, Terry and Ryan are joined by a Ricochet superstar, one Mr. Troy Senik. Climb along with us on his rise to the top, from the White House all the way to a seat between Epstein and Yoo. All the Senik questions you never thought anyone would ask … right here, on Ricochet’s only* podcast worth hearing: Flyover Country.

* Allegedly.

I haven’t had a chance to listen yet, but I’m dying to know Troy’s position on the pleated pants debate.

Did he explain the whole giraffe thing?
He really needs to, I have heard several stories thus far and not only are they obscene I am pretty sure they are biologically impossible.

As far as I’m concerned, he didn’t even weigh in.

I specifically did not ask.  ;)  Also didn’t ask for a bourbon preference… we need to have a few topics left over for next time, don’t you think?

What is the theme music for this show? Also, what is that electronica track you play at the end, seems to be fairly commonly heard these days.

My fellow Americans, you may have noticed that long buried relatives have taken a sudden interest in your brains. No matter how guilty you feel about not cashing that five dollar check from your great aunt, if these relatives are to knock at your door, please do not answer. Please know that your government has this situation well in hand. We are solving the problem like only the government can, by appointing a czar to address the situation. In the meantime, please lock your doors and do not be fooled. Depending on their politics, your buried relatives may sound much more or much less intelligent now, but do not let them in your home. That is all.

We can check that one off the list.

Ryan – I could have told you beforehand that a man of Senik’s charm wears flat fronts. I mean, the guy can write “How are you today, Ricochet?” and get five hundred comments. For the rest of us, it is nose to the grindstone and pleats.

    Thanks for another fine installment!

The music at the beginning is a song called “Stay Crunchy” by Ronald Jenkees.  The song at the end was “Sandstorm” by Darude.  I do not listen to electronica, so I’m not familiar with the Darude song.  Terry listens to that sort of thing a lot more, so I had just asked him for a track to overlay outtakes – unfortunately, I do not have the soundbites of Richard Epstein’s audio problems, although if Blue Yeti would like to send me some, I’d be happy to compile a better closing song.  :)

From what I hear, people were sworn to secrecy on the giraffe issue.  One guy spilled the beans, which has sparked a lot of controversy, but notably absent is that guy who spilled the beans.  I don’t have anything to say about his disappearance (police suspect foul play), and Troy did not bring up the issue when we spoke.  I’m assuming he doesn’t know and really doesn’t want to be pressed on the matter.

I probably missed all of the Ricochet “Yoga Pants” threads, but that one still blows my mind when it gets brought out as a women’s rights issue. I think women are free to wear whatever they want, but yoga pants look goofy in polite society, and I can’t really take seriously any bold fights against would-be oppressors.

The male equivalent for me is jorts. I know they’re comfortable, and call me old-fashioned, but would it be too much bother to put on proper trousers?

One time on a college campus I saw a young female student wearing a hooded sweatshirt, yoga pants, and muck boots. In all fairness, it was on the Hi-Line (specifically Havre, MT) but even so…

On a separate note, I’m a little disappointed that when the topic of personality as a requirement for president came up, former Montana Governor Brian Schweitzer didn’t get a nod.

All in all, an enjoyable episode. Troy’s anecdotes were great, and I these episodes just keep getting better.

The best episode ever! Troy describing his work on the Law Talk podcast is hysterical (I was brushing my teeth at that particular point, and had to clean the mirror afterwards). Anyone who enjoys the Law Talk podcast will enjoy this episode.

I also appreciated the behind the scenes speechwriting information.

    Informative and funny. Great combination.

Another demonstration of why Troy needs to write more here. He has a unique voice and perspective I would enjoy more of.

Tell Terry to wait his turn before speaking. Re-kindergarten him or something.

Everyone needs to make sure they listen to the story Troy tells about Richard Epstein at 51:20.

Superb! My first time listening to this podcast. I have always enjoyed Troy in all of his various incarnations throughout the site. This podcast allowed him to demonstrate the depth of his humor. I have long wondered about Troy’s background, a truly remarkable young man.

I loved the Richard Epstein story cited by Frank Soto above. As a cyclist, I can relate.

Overall, as a avid podcast listener and true fan of the site, I really enjoyed the insights into the various personalities and the workings of Ricochet. I think I gained more understanding of the site today than in the little more than a year that I have subscribed to it.

I’d like to thank PPF for writing a wonderful and thoughtful speech in the event of the zombie apocalypse. Make sure you get paid for that one.

Prawn, my lovely girlfriend Julie is after me constantly for this, and I will try. I think its worse this episode because I’m so Loud, geez. My bad for blowing out everyones eardrums. Volume will be adjusted next time. Thankfully Troy was so awesome I think it’s overshadowed.
