An Embrace in Paris
John Kerry offered a “big hug” to Paris, bringing along soft rocker James Taylor to comfort France after the recent terror attacks. In the event of future violence, the U.S. Secretary of State left behind an eight-track to remind them that America cares.

A friend of mine said that the meeting in which it was decided to bring James Taylor to smooth things over must have resembled a Wes Anderson film.
Are these the same aides who “underestimated” the size and importance of the Paris march in the first place?
Jaw-droppingly stupid. Clearly, the question ” Have these people no shame?” is no longer a rhetorical one.
Hold on there, Gabriel! James Taylor is not a soft rocker!
He is a singer-songwriter.
So tell us – How did the Dep State spox “Harf” this narrative?
Politicians with a penchant for creepy affection
cf.
You mean, he didn’t leave an 8-track of his speeches (cf: Obama, Queen Elizabeth)?
Mad 8-track skilz, Jon. I’m seeing the least successful of the surviving artists pushing this on a 3 AM infomercial.
What, no “You’re So Vain” references?
I think they misunderestimated it.
“I represent a nation grateful each day that France is our oldest ally,”
We can’t emphasize this enough – Every single day, everybody in our country is grateful that you are the oldest.
OMG, I should not be laughing this hard!!
You’re bad, Jon. Werry, werry baaaaad.
BTW, if there is any praise out there for this particular move, please post it. I am hard pressed to imagine that anyone seriously thought this was a good move.
You mean other than Jen Psaki, Marie Harf and Valerie Jarrett, the only other people who even knew it was going to happen?
I though this was a joke until I read the linked article. Surely, “smart diplomacy” is not this trite? Right?
I mean like Vox, the New York Times editorial board, etc. People outside the Administration who would claim the sky was green and the oceans were made of lemonade if they thought it would help Obama.
Our Secretary of State, ladies and gentlemen!
That 8-track photo is brilliant, truly. Too bad it was created for the reason it was.
We are truly… well… you know what I mean.
Forget shame – the Obama administration is now beyond parody.
A high school friend of mine put it best on Facebook:
“I never thought, as an American born in the late 20th century, that I’d ever feel the need to apologize to the French people on behalf of all Americans. Je suis désolé.”
I’ll be really concerned when our relations with Russia merit Rock Yacht level diplomacy.
Currently we’re only at Coldplay level diplomacy.
Pretty clever sneaking in Yusuf Islam, or whatever he’s calling himself these days.
James Taylor was bad enough but hugging President Hollande would be viewed as a terrible breach of etiquette in France where you only hug those you are intimately familiar with. For a guy who we were told in 2004 was a sophisticate who spoke French and had a global perspective it turns out he’s just a schmo. Which we right wing knuckle draggers and bitter clingers knew all along.
Hmmm. Wouldn’t an actual schmo have given President Hollande a two-handed handshake and a *hearty* back slap?
Yesterday was the day the Obama administration jumped the shark.
“Ride Like The Wind” by Christopher Cross is a great song. I love that line –
” I’ve got ..a long way to go
“to make it to the border of Mexico…”
Well. Looks like I’ve got a playlist for my big drive this weekend.
Troubadour Diplomacy?
Someone’s cringing Lord, Kum ba ya.
Kerry should have at least made the offering a little comedic. Plenty of puppets in the Administration.
Same way she has “Harfed” my buzz.
Yesterday? You are being generous.
Maybe they should have sent over Lt. Steven Hauk:
